Mike in Horseheads Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Didn't they have to pay him a 50m buy out if they fired him? Quote
jkeerie Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Doesn't surprise me. I think it was needed. That team was not playing tough. Too many mistakes. Lack of discipline. I was concerned when Pribula left for Missouri. He brought a physical element to the QB position, even in spot duty. Allar did not develop under Franklin and got worse. It's a shame that he's injured, but the team was going nowhere. Quote

JimBob2232 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago yeah. 50M is confirmed....but my understanding is that it is offset if he takes another job....which he probably will. Quote

Ya know, I don't know why anyone would seek other employment when he's got $50m rolling in and loses to work! But these guys ego's are so big they have to get back out there to prove people wrong. That's No Moon Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Going from #2 in the country with Championship aspirations to a place where it is very conceivable that they don't make a bowl game at all is a sure way to get fired $50M buyout or not. Franklin is perfect for somewhere like Vanderbilt or North Carolina where 7 or 8 win seasons are success. He's not been able to land enough top recruits at key positions to win against top programs. WR is a perfect example. Make a list of all the WRs who have gone to Ohio State from 2014-2025, then do the same thing for Penn State. I'll do it for you. Compare these lists and it's pretty easy to see why one team can't beat the other. You can do the same thing at QB and a host of other positions. Ohio State: Emeka Egbuka Marvin Harrison, Jr. Chris Olave Terry McLaurin Jeremiah Smith Jaxson Smith-Njigba Michael Thomas Curtis Samuel Garrett Wilson Carnell Tate Parris Campbell Penn State: Chris Godwin Jahan Dotson KJ Hamler Desean Hamilton Justin Shorter Juwan Johnson Parker Washington Keandre Lambert-Smith Mitchell Tinsley 1 Quote
thenorthremembers Posted 26 minutes ago Posted 26 minutes ago James Franklin wore out his welcome by personifying what the Penn State football program has been over the last 40 years, above average but never the best. If the next guy can win 70% of his games he will likely get 15 years as well. Quote

You can do that for any team in college football and they would all look awful next to OSU (except maybe Bama). Franklin's biggest problem was that he didn't yank Allar off the field two years ago. I think his smartest move would be to get into broadcasting and move away from coaching. I don't see him getting a better gig. The big time programs aren't going to hire him with his record in big games. 1 Quote
