I don't care how good our current are, or become, I will always say we need a true number 1.

The problem is that you don't just need a #1. Any team with a #1 also has to have a very good #1b or #2. Like Higgins in Cinncinnati, Addison in Minnesota, or Smith in Philadelphia. It's too easy for defenses to take one guy away. That's why the Jags spent all that capital to get Hunter even though they hit on BTJ the year before.

What we saw Sunday, is that you can just man up on those WRs and focus on everything else. Josh had the most time of any game this year to throw but guys couldn’t get open. The Pats have good corners but so do a lot of teams. How often are the Bills WRs better than their opponents DBs? Lol, that might only happen during practice 🤣🤣

I think we are still forcing our hand to play the best players on the field vs the players in their best position. We did this to ourselves having 2 TE's and a up and comer.  I'm excited to have talent but we need WRs.

It'd be perfect to put Coleman and Shakir as double slot WRs with at least 1 real wide out. Maybe Palmer can do that but if we had 2 exterior WR's with Coleman and Shakir inside we space out the defense so Cook has even more room to run.

Instead we have a hodgepodge of TEs that can do 1 thing well each with Knox being the most complete TE. They take up a position on the field that isn't quite good enough to be a WR and not quite good enough to be a fb or ol. If we just had a viable outside runner with legs & gas we could scheme.

We’re 4-0 and everything is great.  We turn the ball 3 times after scoring 30+ in every game and the pitch forks are out- revamp everything or we have no chance.

Week 6 is approaching.

Everybody should eat on this team with Cook and Kincaid being the focal points of the pass game.  I think (and certainly hope) that this will be the case come playoff time if they are healthy.  But everyone will continue to eat and I’m good with that

While I agree with your point for the most part, with the exception of the Jets game, the Bills have not really looked crisp or stout in all 3 phases of the game...thats the reason I am concerned. Individuals who we counted on time and time again don't seem to have the same abilities just one season later. Something is missing. I know many want to blame the receiver room but I think we have plenty of talent there...and yet we still look like we cant throw the ball downfield. The defense has definitely been spotty, getting pushed around, missing tackles, bad angles, etc, etc etc. We are in desperate need of a CB2 and even CB1 has been less than his usual stellar self. Taron Johnson and Taylor Rapp seem lost or hesitant. Everyone wanted to blame Cole Bishop early on but he seems like he is the only one in the secondary that has been progressing week to week. I know injuries are a concern right now but every team deals with that. My amateur opinion is that we need to simplify the defense so we can put good athletes into our system and they can be effective from the get-go. We have a habit of recycling past players cuz they know the 'system'! That doesnt seem to be working out very well. While I do expect players to get better with each game, I am concerned about the mistakes just doing the fundamentals.

We should have bit the bullet, moved up in the draft and gotten Justin Jefferson........but alas, our FO figured Diggs was worth trading our 1st for instead.

I mean, give me JJ all day long, but what do i know.......

For sure but the Diggs trade did work out. Got serious production out of him during the regular seasons and first playoff year; Colts & Ravens.

Wouldnt have even had to move up to get Jefferson which is the worst part. Even then, we might have landed Jalen Raegor or Brandon Aiyuk or even Tee Higgins. Hindsight is 20/20 like they say.

Hopefully they do something in the 2026 draft. That kid from Texas Tech would be nice, Williams? Don’t think he’s doing much this year due to an injury but he was awesome the year prior. Maybe he falls to where we pick?

Something tells me we go LB, Safety or OL.

The run game got stifled, we turned the ball over 3 times, but “everybody eats” is the issue? I don’t get it.

Yup. Sloppy play caused it. Usually we are on the other side of the ball. Crazy we can have that and still be in the positions to win.

My only concern with the offense going forward is the last 2 games Josh is leaning on his propensity to force things with his arm again instead of forcing things with his legs. Hopefully that gets cleaned up. There’s been at least 5 or 6 INTs on the season he’s gotten away with.

It's simply not realistic to expect a team's A game for months. In the last calendar year:

- Under 15 TOs

- 1 loss at home

- Consistently scoring 30

A bad game was inevitable, we were never going 17-0 and this team is way too talented to play well and lose.

Roll your best WRs out there, your best running back, and play ball.

This isn't youth football where everyone takes a turn.

I wasn’t implying that we looked crisp in all 3 phases.  I’m worried about our defense in a big way.  We need Hairston to pan out.  The other guy I’m hoping can take a starting role is Jordan Hancock. Rapp has been bad this year and if this play continues, McD may be apt to give the kid a try.  Big hopes, I know.

The LB play has been poor but Shaq may be the answer as a starting LB and should be interchangeable at either spot.  Adding Hoecht and Ed should pay some dividends as well.  Although the bigger problem may be the scheme/ play calling.  Which has a lesser chance of being fixed.

I’m just not as worried about the offense as some are.  Worries some, sure.  But with proper coaching, I think we’ll be alright

They also don't play 7 games. They play 20. You need to manage snaps and hits.

BS. Go look at the snap counts for the top WR’s.  Only looked at a handful and all were 80-90%…some over 90!

Do teams manage snap counts for OL? CB? QB?

I wrote this on another thread but everybody eats only worked last year because of Cooper, before they got him everyone was complaining about a lack of #1 WR like now.

He didn’t put up the numbers we hoped for, but his presence gave us a fear factor that meant the opposition often put their best CB on him which helped the rest of our guys. We don’t have that this year, so yes we put up 41 against the ravens D (which doesn’t look that impressive now considering how many points they’ve shipped since) but it’s expected to curb stomp the jets and saints and the dolphins are hardly a great D either, when we came up against a well coached D we only scored 20 and that at home too.

We need this season’s Cooper

Agreed. And we need this season's Cooper to actually produce.

Yes, it would be better to spend money on the defense, but I don't think there's any one player we could reasonably obtain on D that would have the impact of a WR

I can't believe the nonsense this week from one loss.  How can Bills fans not know how to handle a loss?

Buffalo Bills Fan Syndrome is the short answer.

What really sucked about the loss is.....

1. The Bills could've been 5-0 with a 3 game lead in the division.

2. It was a loss at home.

3. It was a loss to New England.

4. The people on the other sideline who the Bills lost too, included Mike Vrabel, Josh McDaniels & Doug Marrone.

This game also felt a lot like facing the Patriots* under Belichick. All the questionable penalties that went against the Bills etc.

It really brought up a lot of unforgettable emotional scars and an awful taste in everyone's mouth/

Personally, my contempt and disdain for the Patriots* and their vile fans and the Tom Brady only fans will never be assuaged.

I still want Belichick, Brady, Edelman & Gronkowski and all their fake fans to mee ghastly untimely demises.

That's where some fans are coming from, I think.

Don't look at top teams, look at those who go furthest in the playoffs.

Philly played more games than anyone. They had 1 player over 90% of the snaps. 3 in the 80%. 1 in 70%.

The WR with the most snaps was 69%, then 66% and 58%. Their QB played 80%.

Cheifs played a ton.

90% 5 (4 OL and Patty)
80% 1 (Kelce)

70% NONE

60% 2

Highest WR snap counts were 65%, 59%, and 36%

Commies:

90% 3 (QB and 2 OL)
80% 2 (1 WR)
70% 1
60% 3 (2 TEs)

Next WRs were in the 40s

ProFootballReference has snap count data, feel free to comb through it last year.

We need this season’s Cooper

In the 8 games that Cooper played, the Bills threw for 264.4 yards per game and scored 35.5 PPG.

In the 8 games that Cooper did not play, the Bills threw for 203.6 yards per game and scored 28.1 PPG.

For those of you that don’t think that 7.4 PPG difference is significant, the Bills finished 2nd in the NFL at 30.6 PPG. If you subtracted 7.4 PPG and were at 23.2 PPG they would have finished 12th.

And right now we average 243 passing yards and I'm assuming 30+ PPG? So we don't need a Cooper?

It's true that no one could have known what JJ would become, but it was clear that anyone who followed him at LSU, knew what he could become.

In 2 years at LSU, 2,415 yards with an average of 14.6 and 24 TDs. There was a lot of potential just sitting there waiting for us to make a move for him and we went with Diggs.........UGH.

I see it as just one more blown opportunity that could have put this team over the hump.

If we don't trade for Diggs who is to say another team before us in the draft does...case in point the Eagles trade pick #21 to Minny for Diggs and then Minny takes Jefferson 21st overall and we own the 22nd without Diggs or Jefferson, would you want Jalen Reagor instead? I mean yes other WRs drafted after turned out better but if go what if you can't say for certain everything falls the same or ideally if we don't make our trade.

Well, you always need to get better. I don’t think an argument can be made that the Bills are better than a bottom 5 WR room. Will that ultimately cost them? TBD. It did cost them dearly the other day.

Amari is obviously cooked and looked so out of shape in his brief return this offseason. Who is this year’s “Cooper?” Olave? Jakobi Meyers? Doubs? DJ Moore?

I’d try calling Arizona and offering a 1st and whatever WR they want for MHJ. It’s a long shot but maybe it’s just not working out there? I saw an article today with the OC there saying that he didn’t do enough to get him the ball. Maybe you can slide in and buy him cheap from a 🗑️organization. I think there’s about a 2% chance Arizona would listen but it’s worth the call.
