I think he's good at bringing in smart, talented players to run his system.  Not for nothing Brock Purdy was fantastic in college.  Had he been 6'5 and played at Georgia he likely is a first rounder.   Sam Darnold and Mac Jones were both 1st rounders.  Darnold went to the Jets, enough said.  Mac Jones played fine until he got caught up in Belichick's drama with Kraft.    Shanahan also drafted Trey Lance.   I think the guy is a good offensive coach but I dont want to give him too much credit for being a Quarterback whisperer.

Asking a WR to block a DE at the point of attack feels suboptimal.
