I imagine somebody will pop in to tell us all about the one tackle he couldn't quite secure in the backfield, but I thought he was waaay better last night than any of us had any right to expect. He only played half the snaps that Dorian Williams did but had twice as much effect on the game.

The fact that he made a bunch of plays that Dorian Williams simply does not make means that there is probably a voice in McDermott's head telling him to give him even more snaps.

His reading the play to shoot the outside shoulder of the blocker on that tackle in the backfield last night, was beautiful.

Displacing a blocker by fooling him with your eyes is some cagey veteran ***** that I want to see more of on the field.

He cannot possibly be a bigger liability in coverage than Dorian Williams.

Get that man some more snaps, coach.

I thought his comments after the game were interesting, about wanting to earn his teammates’ respect. He mentioned  it twice in his interview.

“It’s been a long time since I got to hit another opponent,” Thompson said. “You could say Week 1, but I didn’t really play. It just felt good to get out there, getting my feet back wet. ... My whole thought process for today was to go out there and win, but (also) get the respect from my teammates.”

“Hopefully I gained all the respect from my teammates, going out there hitting,” he said. “That was the biggest thing for me.”

Haha. I already mentioned it somewhere yesterday, and I think that it is fair to mention that missed tackle. As you say it was in backfield and it ended up as 16y Gordon run. Nothing wrong with mentioning it, esp. when comparing him to Dorian.

Other than that I thought he was really good.

I thought he was solid, maybe between him and Milano we can get good LB play between the two for the season but both have incredible trouble staying healthy

Agreed both fantastic LBers when not injured and Shaq even at his advanced age is still such an athlete. I’ve always liked him. Hope he can stay healthy all year for us because we need him

A 4-3 with Milano, Bernard, and Thompson might be a better answer to balanced teams than having Taron always on the field. He does a good job against the run, but these three can cover also and bring more muscle. Maybe keep Taron for third and long, especially since he's getting older. Of course, so is Milano and Thompson. I'm with those who advocate drafting a linebacker early next year.

Thought he played pretty well last night when given the opportunity. Seems to be at least a decent depth pickup, the hit on the dolphins running back was a thing of beauty.

Yes,  and watching his movement, even when not a football move, like his celebration after that great TFL, he does not look like an older player who just last year suffered the kind of injury that usually takes a few years to come back from fully.  Pretty surprising to see how good he looks physically already.

Could end up being one of the best, overlooked pickups in the off season. Thompson seems to provide much needed depth at the position and more veteran leadership.  One of the many players I am looking forward to seeing more of as the season progresses, and he does on this team.
