Matt_In_NH Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Allen is a big part of it. But this is a team stat. It is as much a McDermott stat as it is an Allen stat. You don’t accomplish this if it is not being driven home from the staff. It is exceptionally hard to do. Quote

All teams say they focus on forcing and avoiding turnovers, but some are clearly better at it than others. Agreed. Can't look over the fact that when Brady took over as OC Allen's fumbles and INTs are career low last year as well. Is that Allen getting mor mature or Brady Offense not putting the ball in harm's way? Quote

I think it’s a combination of things but primarily reflects Allen’s maturity and understanding what can lose you football games. Quote
TheBrownBear Posted September 18 Posted September 18 When was the last time that Josh threw a wing and a prayer punt-pick? I feel like those mostly disappeared the moment that Brady took over (I could be wrong), whereas they were a very frequent occurrence under Dorsey. 1 Quote

Is that Allen getting mor mature or Brady Offense not putting the ball in harm's way? I think it's Josh. We still see way too many plays that don't spring a free receiver where Josh has to hold the ball too long or scramble around. In the past he might have chucked it into trouble. Now he's taking a few yard run or opting for an easier outlet. Edited September 18 by TheBrownBear 2 Quote

After he stopped being a turnover machine, he improved his ratio to 2.40 TDs to 1 TO, which is better, but still worse than everyone I listed except for Purdy & Dak. We have to be honest, Josh did turn the ball over a ton. He was good in 2020, but generally mediocre in this regard (and INT%) from 21-23. He's been elite since Brady took over as OC. 1 Quote
pi2000 Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Allen was the only player to turn the ball over last season. Quote

I think it's because he no longer feels the need to force the ball to anyone, and he's now the unequivocal leader & loudest voice on that offense. It could also be partially because he no longer has that safety blanket, but either way, he's much better at protecting the football now. And although I think he was elite ever since 2020, I just pushback when people say "he never really had a turnover problem" or "his TD to TO ratio was always amazing!" That's just not true. 3 Quote

Are we going to pretend like ZERO of his throws against Baltimore were at all dangerous/lucky? 1 hour ago, HappyDays said: Half of me LOVES this statistical distinction a lot. Such fundamentally sound, effective, consistent performance on the field. The other half of me HATES how deliberate/predictable and frankly boring the Bills are overall (outside of Allen's penchant for magnetically entertaining football). I get that it works. I love that it works. I want them to win. But I HATE when they lose because that's no way to go down. Quote

I was referring to the desperate 50 yard heaves into triple coverage that we started to see all too often under Dorsey, not the occasional risky throw to sustain a drive. As for your other point, how often have we lost playing said efficient, turnover free football since Brady took over? I mean, we've lost like 4 regular season games (not counting the finale) in nearly 1.5 years. I wouldn't say any of them were because our offense was too conservative. 1 Quote

eball Posted September 25 Author Posted September 25 More on this…over his last 13 games (regular season and playoffs) Josh has accounted for 30 TDs and 1 TO. Mind-blowing stuff. 1 Quote

BillytheKid Posted September 25 Posted September 25 This is definitely an overall team stat. Last year Allen is the only one that had a turnover the whole year. Allen had all 8 turnovers which is obviously very low for a QB. Even more amazing is that no one else had a turnover on offense or special teams all 20 games last year, regular season or playoffs. skibum Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) Not to mention the Bills have not lost a fumble... for 19 consecutive games. AND, they haven't committed a single turnover in 8 straight games. Edited September 25 by skibum Quote
