Its cheating that the defense might mimic Hurts? Ridiculous. Did the refs call an unsportsmanlike penalty when Tom Brady used to use the phrase "Rex Ryan" at the line in his cadence? LOL.

Well one is a penalty and one is not.

Given that this is so difficult to officiate, why not just remove the rule and let the game's meta evolve? It would at least be fair, and I don't think giving defenses a slight edge here will unbalance the game much for TV audiences.

With that mentality I’m sure you think all football players cheat right? Like I said, it’s football not golf. Different standards.

If you violate the rules, it’s cheating and subject to penalty. It’s quite simple, and that goes across sports. That just how that works. You may see some things as more egregious than others, but cheating is cheating and the penalty associated with it reflects how ”serious” it is.

This penalty was actually called (on our opponent) when I was in 5th grade playing little league. That’s a strangely vivid memory. If it’s against the rules, I have to expect that you might have a flag thrown in your honor.

No. It’s called an infraction and penalized by downs and/or distance during the game. Cheating is like what the Pats did where suspensions and draft picks were affected outside of the actual games.

I think there is a difference between and in play penalty that happens post snap and something that happens pre-snap. Not sure I'd call it cheating but I do think conceptually the two are different.

Maybe there should be a new flag for "un-Corinthian spirit?"

Dude, you're funny.

Violating rules is, in fact, a form of cheating.  The fact that it's taking place on many plays in the hope the refs don't call it,  doesn't change that fact.

So by that logic there is basically “cheating” on almost every play by both sides because penalties are not called.  I see offensive holding on almost every pass play. I see contact of receivers beyond 5 yards basically every pass play. 95% of these dont get called.

Cheating 😂

I’m not wasting time getting bogged down in semantics regarding how you personally define “cheating”, but it’s not even inadvertent like a false start. The rules were intentionally violated and you can be penalized for that.

Can anyone explain, why this team hasn't learned the Shake-Rattle-Rolle play from the SB years as an alternative to Tush Push??  Allen should be able to line up at with two alternative and then make a choice at the line of scrimmage.  The S-R-R was just as unstoppable back in the day.  If you had two credible alternatives and the D couldn't exclusively sell out to the TP, then there would be positive result close to 100%.... why can't they figure that out??

just plain stubbornness from a coaching standpoint. Play action to the tight end is money

How does the fact that the penalty isn't called impact whether or not it's a rules violation?
And if it's a deliberate rules violation (not inadvertant), what do you call it?

Just ducky?

In the case of KC, it was coordinated and deliberate.  Cheating.

In the case of the Eagles coordinated and deliberate false starting, it's also Cheating.

Do you guys think a theft that isn't reported or charged, somehow isn't a crime or something?

I think I'd be beating a dead horse to continue here, but Wow.

Neither are.

It is against the rules for a defense to simulate the snap cadence. That's been a rule for a very long time.

Have you ever seen a penalty called for this? Unsportsmanlike conduct is a wide spectrum and pretty arbitrary at times  but I have never seen this called in 46 years of watching the NFL. I can imagine that there is a lot of trash talking at the line, how would the refs even hear it?

It's a very rare penalty.
