I've always wondered why for short yardage there hasn't been more (any) usage of huge athletic lineman to take the hand-off a la the Fridge in the SB.  Even for tush push it makes more sense to me to just snap it to some huge athletic powerful 300 lb human and not expose your QB at all

With as small as the DL is these days, with the size of everyone piccard is a great idea.

Are teams afraid to copy it?

If I am a team I dedicate a scout to the draft to find a fast center or guard who pulls smooth, 6' -6'3" or so (even 5'10) who's 300 lbs but lean w good feet. I scout him. I get my scout to go meet him, play catch with him shooting the breeze covertly watching how he moves.

I bring him into camp and work him as an OL his entire rookie practice squad until week 8. Then I start playing him at full back occasionally. The by year 2 I've developed a big fullback who can play special teams blocking.

The Bills scored more both games against the Chiefs last year than the Chargers did last night. Maybe the Chargers should be copying what we do?

Bills would’ve scored 60 last night im pretty sure lol chiefs defense had a really bad night.  I’m really hoping that Chris jones falloff is permanent but it’s wayyyy too early to suggest that

So the play is designed for them to run into each other? Maybe it’s just me, but I think someone made a mistake.

The play is designed for them to run by each very closely and potentially “pick” a defender to spring the other one free.

They both ran drags. At least one was positioned too close to the other and they collided. That’s not really “running the wrong route,” but the truth isn’t as pithy as “he sucks, he ran the wrong route.”

Who do you think ran the route wrong, Worthy or Kelsey?

His name is Kelce. Nobody "ran the wrong route". They were supposed to pass each other, sure. I'd need to look again at where the depth issue was or was it a defender disrupting a route.

But regardless even if the error is his a small error and four snaps does not, in any world equate to "he stinks."

I wrote “ ran the route wrong”, not “ he sucks, he ran the wrong route”. My understanding of that play is to pick the defender not your teammate.

After watching that game last night, it reiterated my belief that there is no way the Bills should have lost to that team this past January. Who knows if they would have beaten the Eagles but that Chiefs team is the weakest it's been in years and they still couldn't get it done. It's just so frustrating and disappointing.

The short yardage inept play calling trying to force the same play over and over was mind boggling to be honest. Brady needs to be better in designing passing schemes and play calling to be honest. I hope he learned from last year.

Yeah, I have to see that again. My memory says Kelce through a shoulder into Worthy like he thought he was the San Diego player, but I could be wrong. But Kelsy is a cheap shot and everybody knows it who pays attention to the details and he got what he deserved there……. Well looked again and I think it was just two guys who were looking back to the qb and didn’t see each other.

Maybe we should look at what they're doing on defense.

They have Derwin James and the Chiefs offense is a total mess.

Week 1 overreaction - the Chargers have some sort of elite defense.

They were elite defensively last year so it’s kinda not an overreaction tbh

Worthy is a very slight man, I’m sure it was a pre draft concern for every team including KC.

I’m happy the Bills decided bigger is better in this instance, maybe Worthy ends up never injured again after this and has a fantastic career, I’m just glad the Bills decided to pass.

There was lots of tight formation stuff from Greg Roman - which Brady already does use - where Ladd was the widest wide receiver but still essentially in the slot. They were using Keon in some of those looks last year pre-injury when he looked like he might be about to breakout. Post injury there was less of it for whatever reason.

Coleman became a slow (victim of play designs, maybe because of his physical limitations at the moment?) WR that required only one defender to neutralize whatever his contributions coulda/shoulda been. A non factor in every sense.

How did we learn that when he went out on the first series?

It looked more like Kelce didn’t take his route deep enough. The defensive guy pushing him didn’t help either. I don’t think that was Worthy’s fault. Although he’s guilty of not eating enough cheeseburgers in the offseason.

Sorry about the misspelling, won’t let it happen again. To reiterate, I wrote “ ran the route wrong”, not “ran the wrong route”, those two phrases mean distinctly different things. I am reluctant to point out the misuse of punctuation. One could spend all their time on this site correcting grammatical and spelling mistakes.

Worthy was drafted to be a deep threat, has he been that? Hasn’t he been used mostly as a gadget player? I also can’t recall any player ever as susceptible to one handed tackles. Maybe last night’s one play was an aberration, perhaps Worthy will become the player that he was drafted to be, but I have my reservations.

That’s how poor the Bills defense was- allowing KC to score the most points it had all year

My bad, I misread your line. Agree someone ran the route wrong.

Has Worthy been a deep threat? He was increasingly towards the end of 2024. Early in the year, yea he was more of a gimmick guy. KC losing him is a significant blow if he misses any serious time.

Splitting hairs maybe but I view Allen as a “big slot” type, Ladd as a “small slot.”  Ladd and Shakir have a similar body type and play style whereas Allen is more like what Keon could (and maybe should) be as a “big slot” (cue the “your mom” jokes I know).  Long way of saying I still think Ladd would be duplicative here given that we have Shakir.  But I could see an offense here with Keon and Shakir both in slot roles.

Ironic that I used the wrong “there”. The jury is still out out on Worthy, the same as it is with Coleman. I believe Worthy had three deep receptions, including the one in the Super Bowl. His average was like 10 yards, but that number is probably skewed by gadget plays. “ Stinks” was probably a bit harsh. I have a hard time with how easy Worthy is brought down.

That being said, I’m a bit testy, because I want the Bills to beat the Ravens.

Yeah, I went back and watched, hard to tell who did what. They should be like a yard apart shouldn’t they?

Refs handed the Chiefs the game.
