Damn the negativity is tough to read and really brings home how bad we are. I read the Jets board earlier and they’re over the moon with how their offense and defense looked yesterday.

Lord, why can’t we be as good as the Jets?

Hamlin why no hustle?

You noticed him jogging on the TD too? He knew he wouldn’t get there in time so he didn’t bother but I’m more curious about his assignment on the play. I picture Micah Hyde recognizing the 1 v 1 on his side of the field and sprinting over to double that WR. Here, Hamlin just defends grass. He's often a day late and a step short.

Did anybody else notice how dominant Chase Lundt was yesterday?

I thought he looked pretty good at LT (I lost track of him when he switched inside to RG). I’m trying to figure out now if the bills can keep 11 Oline or if K. Green or someone else becomes the odd man out.

I’d hate to expose Lundt to the league if he keeps putting good games together but the bills returning oline depth may be tough to crack without an injury or a trade.

If Lundt is good enough to make the team, then they are going to trade VandeMark. They had RVD at RT yesterday because that is his weak spot and I would say he held up only okay there. He is much more natural at Left Tackle but its extremely hard to make a team year after year when you can only play 1 out of 5 OL Positions. If Lundt can play both he'll make the team and RVD will be traded for another team that is desperate for O line help.

Up:

Ciarlo - hustler, would like to see more of him

Hancock - good presence on the field. Lost INT due to Clueless Jackson

Couch - could be a playmaker

Shavers - his situation reminds me of Fred Jackson's early days. Always looked better than others, but still wound up on the PS.

Lundt - will displace Vandemark, who got pushed around yesterday

Ty Johnson - should be RB2. I consider him RB1-B

Down:

Tre White - opponents will be targeting him all year. Easy 5-10 yard pickups.

Landon Jackson - not great awareness on the field

Hawes/Davidson - raves in practice for Hawes didn't seem to translate to the field. Cut Davidson now.

Bayer - nothing more needs to be said.

Elijah Moore - did he even play? He and Samuel must be sweating Shavers/Gosnell/Hamler's performance.

Hamlin is engraved in Bills history. Cutting him, releasing him, how'd that go over?

McD was asked by Matt Bove after the game on a scale 1-10 how much did they game plan for this game and he said "somewhere between 0 and 1".

Yea, I said this about 3 times in the game thread as people were up in arms about things and I'm like the first game especially is essentially roll the ball out on the field and just play with the basic install and let players play with their instincts. Throw in the fact that most of the starters play only a handful of snaps and you get a mess of a ball game. I take nothing from the game except for how did individuals perform at the middle and bottom of the roster.

Looking forward to seeing what Jackson and Hawes will do in the next preseason games. Sometimes a rookie plays like.............a rookie.

Also looking to see if Hancock and Strong emerge.

You'd think if Tre was as bad as a lot are saying that one of the other DBs would be able to beat him for the CB2 position.

Anyways, staying true to the thread...

Arrow up:

- Deone Walker: This massive hunk of human can move. I see a ton of potential there.

- Palmer: Looked decent, was getting open.

Arrow down:

- Davidson: If you're going to be a pass catching TE and have that be your best quality then you need to catch the ball. Seems pretty straightforward, he had the dropsies.

Speculating on what the  problem with third down defense might be, I wonder if the problem might be with a bias toward a philosophy of wanting to keep pass plays in front of the DBs.  That is consistent with the zone defense that Buffalo likes to run, and it is also consistent with the fact that Buffalo does not have the speediest DBs in the league.  If receivers get past them, odds are big plays can happen if not touchdowns.  That's not to say that Benford isn't a great CB, and Tre White probably still has the ability to be a pretty good CB.   Still, they typically give receivers a good bit of room underneath to make catches.  Maxwell Hairston, when he gets healthy and has the opportunity to catch up on what he's missed while injured, has speed to burn and the quickness to react to what most receivers can do to try and create separation.  I would hope that the Bills coaches would feel safe with having him play with a little bit less of a cushion underneath when the offense  only  needs a few yards for a first down.

Yes, I still hate PFF. In this instance, they just kind of confirm what we all saw and were talking about in the gameday thread on Saturday. Walker, Sanders, and Hancock all looked good out there in their first game action.

Rookie defensive tackle Deone Walker was dominant against the New York Giants. In his 15 reps, Walker recorded three quarterback pressures, one batted pass and a pass-rush win rate of 27.3.

Walker’s play earned him a game-high 92.8 overall grade with a 92.9 pass-rush grade.

Fellow defensive tackle T.J. Sanders earned an 82.0 grade. His highest sub-category grade came in pressure (78.3) after the analytics site credited him with one pressure and one quarterback hit.

Defensive back Jordan Hancock also graded out well for Buffalo. PFF gave the former Ohio State Buckeye an 81.3 grade. Hancock earned Buffalo’s highest tackling grade (80.1) and he fared well in coverage (76.6). Hancock seemed comfortable blitzing and was excellent as an open-field tackler.
