AP miscounted the MVP votes

“AP removed an invalid ballot that was inadvertently included in its NFL Awards tabulation and adjusted its point totals to reflect 49 voters instead of 50. So Josh Allen is still the MVP, but what about the missing vote? According to Florio, NBC Sports’ colleague Tony Dungy’s vote was not counted and Diante Lee of The Ringer was counted twice.

 

The Associated Press noted that Dungy had voted for Lamar Jackson for MVP, but Dungy denied that to Florio.

As it turns out, Josh Allen received 28 votes for NFL MVP to Lamar Jackson’s 22."

This actually is kinda hysterical.... its like they are trying to tabulate votes in a Presidential election that needs to provide immediate results... Here they have 1 job. Count 50 votes with over a month to count them and double check...I am gonna channel my inner Tom Jackson...

🤔... the way I interpreted that is the AP votes reflected Dungy voted for Lamar, but when Florio spoke to him he denied that, which is what made Florio question the result... I could be wrong... wouldn't want to step on your "Was it over when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor" moment...

Yes it was only 1 vote, but changed it to 2 point wider margin.  They double counted someone else's vote who had voted for Lamar.

Looks like Dungy actually voted for Josh, but that his vote wasn't at first counted. That the correction is to correctly count Dungy's actual vote for Josh.

 

And Dungy is generally great. I have extreme respect for him.

So the AP was wrong.  Tony Dungy actually voted for Josh Allen.  I’m glad Dungy was objective about the process.  I may not always agree with his football picks, but I like him.

Josh deserved the win but dam what a great MVP race this was in hindsight. Lamar and Josh put together seasons that in most years would be MVP's by a mile but credit to Lamar he put up an amazing season to put the thing in doubt also Barkley had an amazing RB year that got him into the conversation and Burrow's stats were also incredible.
