eball Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I appreciate what Q brought to the Bills but I also believe this kid Hawes is going to be an excellent addition to the roster. If he is as good a blocker as advertised, he allows the Bills to nix the 6-OL formation and have a guy in there who can actually catch the ball as well. Q was just a ST guy and occasional red zone presence. 2 1 Quote

No idea whether Cooper still wants to play but the word on him out of Buffalo seems to be that he is washed and that has circulated round the rest of the league. I suspect he could still sign somewhere but it would be a very low level contract and maybe his ego won't allow that? I think the rest of that list is toast. Douglas is confusing to me - i had heard the Bills did offer him a contract at what they thought was reasonable to the degree that he can compete for a backup job but was told they want to go another direction as a starter. perhaps that was enoguh for both sides not to actually extend the offer but douglas has been tagged by teammates to come back and given credit for addign to the team. with white being back i think it is less likely. Johnson, Smooth, Phillips Jefferson will get a chance on a roster at some point in training camp as injuries happen. teams don't need to bring in those guys because there is already tape to grade. all 4 could be depth rotation guys on a shallow roster or just join PS to stay in the league. Miller doesn't have to sign anywhere but will stay in the league and market himself as some mentor to keep his name famous. back to Coop - some team will sign him to try to tap the last potential from him. a team maybe light at WR (Carolina, New England). Many teams are just as weak at WR as we are. Quote

Not to mention they gave his number to Hairston. I liked Douglas, but I feel like he was just terrible this year, and getting younger and more athletic at the position was the way to go. Now if we wind up with Dane Jackson starting corner, I will be extremely disappointed. I agree on those DL guys will get a shot at some point with teams, especially Smoot and Jefferson. Phillips is tricky because he has pretty much proven he can only play in Buffalo. Cooper thing is interesting, but with how Beane values draft picks, to give up a third and not even attempt to bring the guy back it certainly feels like they think he is done. Miller should sit out most of the year and then sign with a contender late as a hired gun as a designated pass rusher. Quote
JP51 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Congrats and condolences Quentin... glad you found a spot... but in recent history Buffalo Bills making the transition to Florida havent worked out well... just sayin... Quote

How heavy is the trade off in subbing in a TE thats smaller than a T in the blocking dep't, is my question. I dont hate it, but not sure if i like it. They get the benefit of the doubt but I still like the way we ran it next year! Maybe were preparing for life after Alec Anderson, probably a hard guy to keep rostered ($$) when he could potentially start elsewhere Quote

Douglas in 2024 reminded me of Po in 2023 in that while I thought Douglas had lost half a step he was still a decent player. I know Po was/is older than Douglas but it just looks like Douglas who was never really a burner (ran a 4.59 at the draft) lost even more speed and just was prone to getting burnt at times even if he was very fundamentally sound almost always being where he needed to be just a step behind at times. I think getting out on Douglas was the right move. Tre is a year younger (granted more injury history) and looked better with the Ravens to end the season, getting Tre another off-season 6-7 months to be further removed from his 2023 injury seems like a better gamble. Toss in two drafted corners one in round 1 and a depth kick the tires retread in Dane and the team just doesn't need Douglas. 1 Quote
billsfan89 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago As far as Morris it is a nice depth signing for the Jags, he is what he is at this stage of his career (a high quality TE3) and each roster spot holds value. I think the Bills just moved on from Morris because he had limited upside. 4 years in he never developed beyond what he was. I would have liked for the Bills to have brought him back but give the volume of draft picks they had it was easy to pencil one in for a TE in round 5-6. Quote

Hawes (if he adds a few pounds) will be close to Alec Anderson size. I see Anderson moving to LG soon, possibly C. I don't think Beane can re-sign both Edwards and McGovern. Camp ought to give us an idea what they are thinking, but that's my guess. Quote

They used a 5th round pick on a TE who looked comfortable in rookie minicamp, Knox Kincaid and Hawes are gonna be their 3 TE.
