in what world is 1,009 yards rushing and 258 receiving elite?

Hitting just over 1000 yards in 17 games is honestly pathetic.

Let the ray Davis time begin.

On the modest amount of touches Cook has seen, it's damn impressive.

I saw what he said and it sounds to me like both sides are set and there won't be any budging going forward.

You never know, but that’s certainly the way it sounds. Still, it might just be posturing by Cook’s agent to get the best deal. The only other vet deal this agent has negotiated was Cook’s brother’s and they went right up to the start of the season on that one.

But not being able to handle more touches is quite the opposite of impressive.

I forgot that both brothers had the same agent.  This is one of the issues right there. I hope Beane holds strong, we have to send a message to all future FA's that we are more than fair, but wont be bullied into breaking.  Beane has crafted damn good deals for our guys he wanted to keep

Being old school, IF he plays I give him 300+ touches at Running this year. That is the number the elite, workhorse backs hit.

Yeah, I don’t see a lot of money left on the table by the other players Beane has signed so I find it difficult to believe that he isn’t being fair to Cook.

The timing on the Cook stuff is frustrating. Comes to camp, practices, then decides one day nah I'm sitting out. 🙄

Beane is smart enough and has the cajones to tell him hes under contract, you either play or sit the year. I understand the value to trade him would diminish but I don't think he's going to budge from whatever number he has on Cook right now (and it aint $20 mil or whatever he's asking).

But Josh Allen will be on the roster in the future, probably another 10 years-ish

Great… go find elite players while hes on this team… keep pushing back money into the future to get these players if necessary.

10 years is very hopeful, and we all would love to see a 40yr old Allen still playing, but realistically we’re probably looking at 7-8 more years if we’re lucky.

Once he hangs up the cleats, if it takes a couple years to rid the roster of all the dead money, who gives a sh*t. I’ll say it again, I understand you wanting to maintain a balanced budget, I just don’t care about that for the next 7 years .

Why would he take that when he could get $15M base and up to $17-20M in incentives elsewhere?

You guys are expecting him to leave generational wealth on the table when this is likely his ONE shot to get paid, while the league and owners make plenty more for doing nothing.

The generational wealth thing is thrown around a lot in here.  Are you saying that 10M/year for 4 years is not generational wealth?  Frankly, if he signed for $10M/year with $30M guaranteed that is probably around $15 million in his pocket after taxes and agent's cut.....  For most people, that's generational wealth and I don't think an extra $2-3 million (which will be $1M - 1.5M after taxes) will make it "generational" wealth if it wasn't already.

It probably won't matter anyway because a great many of the guys that are focused on getting the "biggest" contract values end up broke anyway.  It's just as easy to piss away generational wealth as it is a regular working stiff paycheck.

TD totals dont impress me in this offense. if you are a skill player w Allen you are going to have outsize TD numbers. Call it the Dawson Knox effect...we are still regretting that contract they handed him after his 9TD season

doubt theyll make the same mistake

I had the same thought until I went and watched all his TD's.  I know he only cracked 1,000 yards but 4.9 ypc and 18 rushing TD's (21 if you include the playoffs) weren't by accident.     His vision inside the 10 yard line and his added physicality allowed him to score a lot of short yardage TD's that I don't think any other RB we've scored on our roster had since Shady would've scored (there's a a reason Josh only threw for 28 TD's).  Same goes for the five 40 plus yard TD runs where his long speed is also unmatched since Shady.  Let him play out the year and see if he can come close to that number again.  Maybe increase his work load and go from there.

If team feels that Davis is 80% the player Cook is at this point. I would look to move Cook whether as a piece in a player deal to fill a hole or for draft picks. I am against paying a RB when you have paid your Franchise QB top dollar. For me keep drafting and replacing. Money is better spent on the lines instead.

Cook is not going to be traded this year. He’ll either sign an extension or play out the season and become a FA (and get us a comp pick).

4 years/$60M, $40M guaranteed. Throw a void year on the end and its instantly back down to $12M/yr ($8M/yr guaranteed) for the team. Make it an extension and now its essentially 5/$65M, with the void 6/$65... less than $11M average.

Cap is booming with streaming revenue. It's easy to get done where Cook wants to be and have both sides happy.

There is 0% chance Cook gets $17M+, IMO. That's crazy.

True. He won't get hurt on the bike. He also won't stay in football condition on the bike either.

Maybe it is selective memory, but it seems year after year the guys that stage these "hold ins" end up not having great seasons that follow. Start the season slow. End up with lingering soft tissue injuries that derail their whole season. Things like that.

Well for sure... I was teasing about the rubber mats and bike thing... but I am not sure this is the best decision for him especially if it becomes acrimonious... and move into him sitting out... I cannot image that would add value on the outside for a contract. Flip side is from his point... and if I get hurt what does that do... I just hope this resolves pleasantly...

It wasn't an elite season but he did have some elite plays that you have to accept losing once he leaves. A lot of RBs don't get some of those long TD runs he had. Or a couple of the red zone TDs where he outran a defender to the pylon. Or the 4th down TD in the AFCCG that kept us in the game. I can't pretend those plays weren't important so if the idea is never pay RBs unless they're the elite of the elite, I get it, but those plays have to be replaced or else you are just choosing to take a step back on offense. I don't trust this regime to replace those plays because historically they have not put a lot of resources into explosive skill players.
