Does Beane keep the older guys (and bad contracts) and tweak around the best he can? Would he think that's enough to get the team over the hump or does he make the move in 2024 to get younger and put an offense around Josh. I'm not going to get into the weeds about exact numbers (my mind is numb from yesterday) but I think most of you guys (and gals) know what I mean. Move on right now from guys like Von and Diggs (post June cuts) along with White, Morse, Dawkins, Poyer, Harty, Hines, Martin and who knows who else. Other players have to be approached about their contracts too. Knox, Neal, Bass In essence, a big re-tool. Would Josh have to buy into a plan like this? Would McDermott? If a new HC comes in, it will happen anyway. You might sacrifice the 2024 season, but you structure yourself for the future Bills built around Josh Allen. As a fan, I would go along with it if that would be decided. Our defense will still have Oliver, Rousseau, Milano, Bernard, Douglas, Benford, Johnson. Just need to add enough to make it a middle of the pack group. On Offense, if we take this tear it down strategy, I'd rather keep Morse. Bring back this Top 5 OL. Know you have Shakir, Kincaid, Knox and Cook. Draft WR's early and often. Bills Posted January 22 Share Posted January 22 Not sure why we would stay the course and only think minor tweaks get the job done. Last year we showed we can't hang with a healthy Bengals team and we've shown time and time again we can't beat the Chiefs when it counts. Gabe Davis is probably gone depending on his market. There will be some significant changes. BearNorth Posted January 22 Share Posted January 22 Tackles don't grow on trees. Dawkins is a top 20 tackle and Brown not far behind. There are 8 of the top 20 tackles that are OLDER than Dawkins. Davis seems like he will be only slightly less to sign than a guy like Pittman or Evans according to Sporttrack. Could we trade Diggs for a 2nd? He's been MIA all year. But I think Poyer is back to prevent too much turnover, Hyde is gone because he is a FA and replaced with a high 1-2nd round draft pick. Morse is a tough one. I think he is back because of how well this OL did. One more run for him, draft a C at some point. Diggs I'd trade for a 2nd if we can to offload his cap, sign Evans (not Davis), and draft 2 WRs. Overall comment: I am a little shocked that a lot of the responses are in some form accepting of the idea. Like @SCBillscommented, it might NOT be a throw away year. jahnyc Posted January 22 Share Posted January 22 The Bills have a lot of free agents and we will not be able to sign all of them (or even most of them). I have no reason to believe anything is changing, our super bowl window since 2019 has looked like this: 2019 - Wide Open, unlimited potential going forward despite bad loss to Houston, we believed at this point. 2020 - Still 3/4 open, made it to AFCCG, lots of promise and stuff to look forward to, it was only a matter of time at this point. 2021- 1/2 open, 13 seconds, best chance to get to the SB that year and build momentum for more. 2022 - 1/3 open, still hope for the bounceback season after 13 seconds, end up getting dominated by bengals at home in the divisional, not even close. 2023 - there is a small 1/4 - 1/8 crack in the window open, you squander your first home playoff game against the chiefs in a legacy game. 2024 - the window is closed barring a deep playoff/super bowl run, it is officially do or die (even though it technically has been since 13 seconds). 2025 - considering an unsuccessful season (no super bowl) in 2024 is more than likely, the window has now been locked shut, and will probably take 1-3 years to unlock and open it again slowly. This assumes Allen who is now getting older will be able to stay healthy all season, how badly will we look back on the past 5 years if Allen has trouble staying healthy for the next 2-3? it's a miracle he was even able to stay as healthy as he has been his entire career, he's not going to be this way forever and the closer he gets to 30 the more likely injuries can happen, especially with his style of straight up bully ball at times. God forbid Allen goes down for 4-5 weeks next year, this team is DONE, does this still save McDermott?
