AJE next contract…

Honestly, AJE is showing potential that he could be the bookend with Groot.  His biggest issue prior to this was never getting the field time to show if he could take the next step as he has been buried since getting here.  He has always flashed the potential, and now he is making the most of his opportunities.  Between getting the reps, learning from Von, McD as the DC, this kid is starting show why we drafted him.

I wouldn't blame Beane if he started extension talks now because he won't be cheap if he keeps playing like this rest of season.  The risk is the sample size of this production is small, but the flip side is not being able to afford him too.  Tough decision for the FO on how they approach AJE.

I said all offseason that AJE was better than people thought and would start on plenty of other teams.  Now he is proving it on the field.  I am hoping we find a way to keep him at a deal that isn't crazy.  Each impact game though that price tag is going up.

AJE is becoming the guy I most want to extend.

It probably means moving off Gabe, Tre, Hyde and Poyer.. but I'd love to pair him with Rousseau for the long term and then put a team friendly offer on the table for Floyd to come back if he likes it here.

They finally got the DL right, and that's without Von.  We've seen how much of a struggle it's been to get to this point.  I'm doing everything I can to keep the two guys we drafted that have developed into upper tier EDGE defenders.

That was likely a result of him being an incomplete player resulting in the coaches being unwilling to fully trust him.

How many times have we seen him on a blind rush blowing contain since we drafted him? He's slowly getting better at it, but let's not pretend that the only reasons he was on the sidelines were due to circumstances beyond his control.

Thats fair...and to be clear, I am not saying its only reason, but it was probably the biggest reason as guys need to get field time to really start putting it together.  I mean his rookie year he had no camp, it was COVID and it was a weird year and took some time to get him ready to see the field.  But we had quality veterans ahead of him too.  Then the next year they draft Groot and Boogie in first and 2nd round to go with Hughes and guys here.  Then the next year we gave Von Miller a 30 year contract for a gazillion dollars to play opposite Groot.  But he still had 6.5 sacks despite being in a rotation and playing for a DC allergic to generating sacks.

Granted, you are not wrong either...he needed time to develop, and I am sure Von being here has helped.  But I just think him being buried here limited his reps and opportunities to really put it together on the field, and he started making the most of them last year and even more so this year.

If BB called AJE’s agent today, what would it cost for a 4 year deal? 10m per?

More or less?

With the start Floyd is off to, they probably cannot afford him next season, and it would leave a hole if both AJE & Floyd both moved on.

Floyd is also 31, whereas AJE is 25.  If I had to put my money towards either Floyd or AJE, it’d go towards resigning AJE, so long as that’s not going to prevent resigning Rousseau in a couple years.  I’ll take a core DL of Oliver, AJE and Rousseau, plus other veterans or draftees to fill the gaps.  How much Von plays out the 6-year deal is another huge uncertainty too.

Von is toast as a Bill after the 2024 season, and maybe even after 2023 depending on how this season plays out.

Today, probably 13/yr.  If he stays on this pace it’s 20 at the end of the season.  He’s been REALLY good this year.   Gotta let it play out, he’s flashed before, let’s see if he can keep it up.  Floyd is on a one yr deal, Von is old and could be off loaded after next year, so it’s not impossible to get him back here if he proves this isn’t a flash in the pan.

It's time for Poyer and Miller to go after this season

Right. He's taken some time but he has developed. Both he and the Bills deserve credit there.

Now, can he take the next step?

Poyer will be gone, Miller is here next year, costs more cap to get rid of him than keep him.

It looks like that may be best as of right now... Poyer doesn't look like himself, and Von isn't the game changer we need ATM. Their losses don't seem like they would impact us too much, and we will eventually need to get younger
