Seems like there are a lot more injuries in today’s softer league. Guys were far more calloused up back in the day with two a day practices and legal harder hits. There was no “defenseless receiver.” I think because guys were more calloused, they probably knew how to protect themselves more. Soft tissue injuries also weren’t as frequent because they were on the field all the time.

Seems like Mike has been hitting the nose candy again....

But he's not wrong. What we watch nowadays is a different sport from football of the 80s and 90s. I didn't even like Deion Sanders but he was a phenomenal athlete

He was amazing.  But back then, they (DBs), had so much more leeway.  WRs nowadays are very protected compared to old.  Plus pass interference is call so much more now. Mind you, WRs also get called for push offs a lot more now as well...when they wouldn't back then.

If Deion couldn't cover todays wide outs, it would only be a result of pass rush being almost nonexistent.  Otherwise, i think the best athlete to ever play corner probably could hold his own.

Deion ran a 4.27 40 coming out of FSU!
