Yeah - did you see how fast the klan jumped?

Go Beto go!

Again, grandstanding. That's what he did. Textbook.

And the guy you mention is the towns mayor. But you don't give a sh*t because he's conservative.

Isn't it grandstanding for Abbott and Patrick to hold a press conference to say how sad they (and their spouses are), but essentially assure everyone that there is nothing they can do?

What’s your point?

I don't disagree with what you posted, but what you are proposing is exactly the kind of thing far-right extremists flip-out over...the very reason they feel it is their god-given right to have guns.

Question... do local, state and federal officials NOT hold press conferences after tragedies? On both sides?

You are very quick to throw water on this issue... an issue that is terribly out of hand.

It is quite clear that you think your right to posses a gun >  than the life of those kids that died yesterday and the people in Buffalo last week.

Enough is enough already...

Sure they do.  Does that make it substantive?  Why hold a press conference to let us know how sad they feel, but offer nothing else? It was grandstanding to the highest degree. Trying to change the subject, and take attention away from the criticism that they are receiving for openly fostering a gun-worshiping culture.

They are the two most powerful men in the state...they got nothing but culture wars.  O'Rourke (obviously in a losing battle) is showing them up...letting people see what absolute empty vessels they are, and letting people know, btw, there are alternatives.  They can gerrymander the state as much as they like to assure the ultimate re-elections, unless people just finally get fed-up with their bs.

No - Beto is doing the right thing and putting these klan members on the spot because these fks loosed gun laws....

Factually, it is. We have the 2A. It's a RIGHT.

BTW: Murder is illegal.

Greg Abbott’s press conference just angered me. NO ***** that mental health is a problem everywhere in this country. Please tell me how to address this root cause.

It’s an absurd copout as is someone saying to “ban (x) type of gun”

When will we ***** compromise to save lives? Even suggesting 21 being the age to purchase is met with such swift venom that I know we’ll never get anywhere with it.

These incidents, for some, are apparently an acceptable tax to pay.

You must have not watched it. 95% was informational. What happened, who it was, understanding of the gunman (criminal and mental health info), type of firearm, timeline, etc.

How about you worry about YOUR state. No one, where I live, is concerned about someone carrying. I carry.

Dude, ever heard of the Bill or Rights? Yes or no. If you don't like them or the Amendments, move to a different country. If free speech more important that someone's life?

Jim, poll after poll, for decades now, show that the majority of Americans favor stricter gun laws. Both Democrats and Republicans.  Yet, we don't get them, because of these extremists on the right.  They are the folks that embrace, and are embraced by one party, not the other.  Not denying there are extremists in both political parties (that is another issue), but in this particular case, where guns are concerned, the opposition is going to come from the right.  I think your suggestion was completely reasonable, but who is going to decide when somebody warrants close watch?  Local law officials?  The government?

I live in Texas, I am worried about my state, thank-you.  Is the fact that you carry supposed to be of some comfort? :)

Why are those on the right, including me, concerned?  We don't trust the government.  I own firearms and the reason was because we feared for our lives, and for good reason, when we lived in Oakland.  Are all our weapons, after they ban assault weapons, next?  Who protects us then?  It sure ain't agencies like Oakland PD.  That's for sure.

Regarding your last point.  That's the slippery slope.  It's the same with homelessness.  Who is going to force meds on those that need it?  The ***** government??  I would love them to work on getting their families involved in this.

I would daresay very few of you look at an 18 year old and see an adult. Maybe in previous generations that was true, but the maturity is just not there these days. There are obviously exceptions, but I believe that to be true in my experience.

But we still can’t even agree to push the purchase age back a few years. The stalemate we face is pathetic and reflects very poorly on all of us.

Note I would support OBVIOUS exceptions to that rule for military and law enforcement before someone throws that “problematic” gotcha at me.

Make sure next time they (Republicans) don’t hold a press conference because you’re a liberal.

It’s okay when Democrats do it, but not conservatives. 🙄

It’s amazing how some want to reduce or eliminate a constitutional right due to a few evil people.

You’re probably the same who screamed “you can’t  blame all Muslims for 9-11!!!”

Scenario. Two guys break into your/my homes in the middle of the night. I have a weapon you don’t. Who would you rather be?

Likely not. And if so I’m going down defending my home and my family.  Not sniveling in the corner like you.  Big red fonts won’t save you there.

The scenario you are talking about is far different than what we have been seeing in the news recently.  I have nothing against you having a gun in your home to defend your home and family.
