Mitch Morse Re-Works Contract per Ian Rapoport

Recommended Posts

This, under the current circumstances has always been the real outcome for the team and Morse, Morse was never getting cut. I found it amusing that a vocal few thought he was a candidate to be cut. Moving on to the next Beane move👍

This may buy him another year, but doesn’t guarantee that he’ll be here beyond 2022. Could still draft a few linemen this year and have them ride the pine while we develop them, but obviously this gives us flexibility though as far as the draft is concerned. DL & front seven is more of a need and this move allows us to target more dire areas on the team. No need to create a hole where there doesn’t need to be one.

Cody Ford is under contract and was a starter at RG and will be again unless they move him back to RT

He started at LG I believe. I will still be shocked if Feliciano isn't re-signed. He's 2 players in 1. I think it's written in stone now...

Dawkins - Ford - Morse - Feliciano - XXXX

Ford - Morse - Feliciano played 0 snaps together last season.

Yup he was the new LG I was referring to.  I think they need to resign williams and put Ford at LG.  Either way you slice it though our cupboards on the line are very bare.  We have 6 (including Ford) under contract.  Ike gets you 7 but thats still not a team Im ok rolling with.

Completely disagree. When you have 5 concussions you are basically playing on borrowed time to begin with. They had an out and should have taken it. Josh needs to be paired with a young center for the next 10 years (Landon Dickerson?) and while it's fun to picture Morse starting for 16 games it just isn't likely to happen.

There are a lot more players with five and more concussions under contract in the league than most realize, and they will all be playing this upcoming season. Hell if you count youth, high school, college and pro time in football, the numbers of players with multiple concussions is very likely much higher than the league or those players want anyone to know.

They need a swing OT unless that’s going to be Bates. I thing Ford ends up at RG.

Agree they need a swing tackle.  I am ok with Ford at Guard (side doesnt matter too much to me).  But that still leaves the other guard spot, RT, swing tackle, and interior back up as open spots.  I can get on board with Bates and Ike as the interior back up but thats still a lot we need.

Again, not sure how at all this improves the offensive line.

Feliciano is going elsewhere, IMO.

Think your looking at a new starting RG and maybe a new starting RT. They will get Ford into the lineup due to the resources they used to draft him.

I think they like the continuity. Only change comes at RT depending on cost of Williams. We're not going to see many changes to the team.

Dawkins- Ford/Ike-Morse-Draft pick/FA- Williams hopefully.

Agree Mongo is probably gone.  Would really like them to keep Williams.  I think Ford can pass Ike pretty quickly if he gets a full offseason to play the position (he moved from RT during training camp last year).  I say this knowing Ford's play at guard last year was very not good.

Disagree as mentioned above.  I think theyll have at least two new players on the line (not counting swing tackle).  Continuity is not much of an option this year with the number of free agents they have.

I’m thinking we now resign Mongo. Not only does he start at Guard he can come in and replace Morse God forbid he has another concussion. He would be our best option for a replacement centre.

Cody occupies the other  guard spot and we don’t resign Williams. Draft a tackle. I think with Josh ability to escape and evade especially coming from his not blind side we can live with that.

Then Beane throws some money on the d side of the ball or tight end.

We Have to give something up on the oline this year to address other needs.

I also think Mongo will cost less than Williams

Sure, but considering they struggled to get any push in the run game and have said they want to improve their, I’d think they are looking for an upgrade at one of the Guard spots.

They didn't struggle with Ford - Morse - Feliciano, since they didn't play a snap together. I think now that Morse is back they're going to try this again.

Only question I have now is Williams.

Feliciano is going to be back, Williams likely not. Although it all depends on demand in free agency for Williams.

A bit surprised at the mixed reaction to this move. We need to see the specific contract details to really determine the impact of the restructure (and in this case pay cut), but I think this is a win-win move.

Morse is a great center especially in pass protection who has held up well despite pretty awful guard play at times. The concussion issues are a genuine concern, but as some other posters have said, we will likely be able to get out of his deal without much dead cap next year and draft or sign his replacement when we have more resources if we want. I'm happy to have a player of his caliber back and at a reduced price that helps the team. If we can upgrade at one or both guard spots next to him, I think you could see a Pro Bowl-worthy season out of him.

Keeping Josh protected and healthy needs to be our top priority and I think keeping Morse is a big factor in that. Putting Feliciano at center or a rookie starting from Day 1 would have been a downgrade IMO.
