Field position and points: Keep Bass, Hauschka, Edwards and Bojorquez on the 53

Recommended Posts

I’m not even sold both punters will be on the team week 1. The kickers the job is for Bass to win, rookie with a monster leg and cheap contract. It’s a no brainer if he can perform. I like Haush but he’s never quite been on since the jet game. Might as well roll with the rookie and if he bombs when it counts I’m sure there’ll be vet free agents available

I am super unsure if you are trolling.

So the Bills are keeping 4 kickers, 3 QB's, plus Dimarco, Taiwan Jones, and Andre Roberts because of their ST ability not because they provide any usefulness on their side of the ball. That is like 20% of our final roster. Who are the other 10 players you cut from the 53? Or don't dress as part of the 46?

Redo your math and ask question again.  There will be at least 2 kickers and 2 QBs on roster so those are not part of 10 and QBs provide usefulness on their side of the ball.  You are using fuzzy math to try to make your point but it does the opposite.

As ideas go this is one of the worst I've read in quite a while

Yeah? I notice not too many people are buying jerseys for he 7th CB on the roster or the 8th Olineman.

Hypothetical: Your pantry holds a limited supply of food and you have 20 cans of tomato soup (five for "back up"), doesn't it make sense to get rid of 3 or 4 cans to make room for crackers, hot sauce and sardines? You'll never get to use those extra cans of soup...get something in your pantry that makes a difference.

You lost me at sardines.

We all can agree, NFL games are won and lost by field position and points. A bad punt can leave your defense with a short field.  A missed 55 yd field goal - no points.

This team is ready to win, and winning requires good field position and points.

Keep Bass as our long field goal kicker...anything over 50 yards, he comes on the field.

Keep Hauschka for the 20-40 yd field goals...he's money.

Keep Bojorquez for shorter punts when you need the ball placed inside the 15 yd line or when there's a southeasterly wind at the stadium (to crate a cross wind with his left foot).

Keep Edwards for longer punts and drop kicks. He's Australian and they utilize the drop kick a lot in that league. Would be a nice wrinkle for the Bills and can score points.

Thoughts?

Do we need another kicker for the 40-49 yard kicks?

Edwards will be I'd bet.  But hopefully they bring in more competition.

I recall in past years, a strong leg for kickoffs was kept.   He ended up doing it all when the regular kicker got hurt.  Can't remember the names or the year.  Of course, Haush got hurt last year and the Bills could have used a replacement then as well but didn't have one.

I would challenge you to create a proof that is better than the above. You know why you can't? Because my proof is plausible. Adding/keeping 4 skill kickers by reducing two depth players at a position of strength equals an increase in points (and better field position). My theory holds true and there's not much you can say to detract from the proof itself.

LOL.  You can challenge me all you want but i am not going to  waste more time on this idiocy of a "proof" and yes I could create one about as vapid and worthless as yours.

If we keep Bass because he can make 50+ yard FG's then surely he can make ones from 20-40 yards too

But what if House money is better at the 20-40 yarders but Bass is better at the longer ones???

Exactly.

Hausch is probably something like 85% solid up to 49 yards, unproven Bass might range from 35-85% up to 49 yards.  Beyond 50 Hausch is borderline 5%, Bass is probably 33%.

Im just saying for sake of argument, assuming Bass has little to no issues hitting 50+ yards (which would be the reason we kept him), I would see no reason why he would struggle with hitting FG's from 20-40 as well.

Just don't see why we need to keep 2 kickers. I don't even like the idea of keeping one fir kickoff specialist. I just feel we could better use the roster spot

Bass is probably a better kickoff player but in reality we will not know until season starts.

IMO it was dumb for the NFL to expose its neck to alphadog NFLPA.  They should have had at least one preseason game.  Now NFLPA will be pushing to eliminate all preseason games every year as they were before COVID-19.

I suggest you refer back to Fergies formula on the subject.  It's simple math.  Unless you are not interested in scoring more points???

As an unproven rookie he might struggle with both BUT the difference is he can at least get the leg for 50+_, at this point i dont think Hausch does at all so for long field goals aren't an option for the Bills with just Hausch.

As close as NFL games are at least be able to try a long field goal is a massive potential advantage.

Fair points. I guess I would rather just keep Bass on the protected PS list if he isn't the clear cut winner
