Not a big deal to you because you're likely not one of the 55K+ season ticket holders. You want to be the guy to tell half of them they aren't going get their seats for a year? It would make more sense to play at Penn State's Stadium.

But this is a moot discussion because I'm convinced they will not go the renovation route. Why? Because half the stadium is buried in the ground and you can't expand the concourses there.

All signs point downtown.

How many of those 55K+ are going to pay for 10 games at Penn State?  It's 200 miles--8 hrs round trip.  I'm guessing almost none of them.

Doesn't make much sense.

Vegas is a different animal. As popping a town as it is, it lacked a super-sized venue. That stadium will get used year round.

What would they put in that super-sized venue?

Let's look a the most super-sized venue (ATT) schedule for the rest of the year:

A bull riding 2 day event, a motocross event,  Monsterjam, another bull

riding event, USA-Mexico soccer game, Kenny Chesney concert, Bieber, "Promise Keepers" thing, USC/Bama.

9 events over 8 months (good thing they like bullriding down there!)--with no major event between mid April and the end of June... and nothing in August.

How about Metlife?:  well, they are keeping the place open for 4 XFL games this Spring!  Without that, they have a concert at the end of may, nothing in the month of June, concert in July and 2 in August, 2 in Sept.  In 5 months, 6 events.

There really aren't enough large scale events to occupy the schedule of any super-sized venue to make money off of.  The Vegas stadium will get used year round, but not much...

How much cash does one make off of a full house bieber concert - or a wrestlemania etc.?  Like - how many events does it make sense to run?  I imagine food service, staffing are a huge PITA.

From what I can see, "show costs" are 20-30% of the face value charge of the ticket.  From that 20-30%, the help (roadies, stage crew, security, food, insurance, medical staff, etc.)and the venue get paid.  Plus the venue keeps the extras (parking, food/drink, and a piece of the merchandise).

An event a month will help defray the cost of the stadium, but it's not much to make it viable in an of itself.  Without G loans and revenue sharing and PSLs, private/owner funding of stadiums would never happen.

Thats a fair statement - but some of the promises are BS.  The jobs you bring are all temporary - construction - temp workers to do concessions 15 times a year.  The economic impact can be questionable too - parking, concessions, tickets... all that profit goes to the owners.  I'm sure local businesses get a boost, but again were talking 10-15 times a year.

Unless it is a multi-use stadium...

Here are the events scheduled at the Convention Center this year:

Arizona does this. The turf is on a wheeled stage and they roll it out and use the building as a Convention Center. We probably cant do exactly that, but we could certainly put a temp floor on top or something.

They actually have natural grass believe it or not...  If you wanted to do car shows or something you'd have to figure something out.  Turf or grass can get wrecked pretty quickly by something like that.

Yeah, by turf I just meant the playing field.

There are plenty of engineers that I'm sure could figure out a solution for building a raised floor over the field with minimal damage. And even then, since the events take place in the offseason there is time to repair. If we're talking about it on a message board, someone smarter has a solution. ?

Yeah - I'm sure they can do some kind of tray system or something - i know nothing about artificial turf.

I do know that they just re-did the fieldhouse turf in OP and i still hate it.  So spongey.  On the plus side - they wont need to build a fieldhouse/practice facility downtown.

Yeah, much like the Falcons down here who play in MB Stadium downtown, but practice and do everything else out of Flowery Branch which is 50 miles away. The Bills would still run ops and practices out of One Bills Drive and the Fieldhouse, and just play games downtown.

That’s what I’m thinking. I really trust Wawrow when it comes to this stuff and that seems to be what he believes. It’s the more likely scenario for a lot of reasons. I wouldn’t say that it’s a definite at this point.

Downtown stadium is a non-starter as has already been discussed to death.  There simply is no room for a stadium when you factor in how many Cabela's and Bass Pro shops will be coming as part of Buffalo's downtown revitalization project.

It's going downtown. Worst secret ever.

All for it.  I've been to numerous stadiums - my favorites are all the ones downtown.

The neighborhoods around the Seattle stadium... bars, restaurants, condos and people everywhere - going bonkers - the vibe - was so cool - before the game, after the game, and the next day.  Just a cool vibe.

Went to the Titans game this year - walked to and from the stadium - just very cool.  Same with Baltimore last year.

Went to the Pittsburgh game this year - SO MUCH FUN.  Took their elevated light rail one stop from downtown and the stadium was right there.  We tailgated before the game - YES - TAILGATING IN AN URBAN SETTING - hopped into the Casino to warm up before the game - (Casino was filled with Bills fans) - and then went to the game.  Just a fun experience.

It's time to grow up Buffalo.

You tailgaters will adapt. You will go to the games. And you will find a new way to enjoy Bills games...

GO BILLS!

PS: I know some of you point to what Bob Kraft did with Patriot Place.  Guess what?  It's a fake plaza with restaurants and stores that are DEAD MOST OF THE TIME; even weekends. As someone who lives in Boston - its a joke.  You can't replicate the real thing - put the stadium in the city and work it into the urban fabric.

What about Vegas? They are building a football stadium in a desert, but I bet that will really give the City a huge boost, maybe bring in some tourists to the area?

Vegas doesn't need football or the stadium.  Folks would still go there.  Football is just another attraction to sell.

It's Buffalo, we're going to tailgate no matter where the stadium is. The only thing that seems to be up in the air is roof or no roof. I'm begging the Pegulas to put a roof on it. Fans that don't want it will love it in the end. Buffalo will have the loudest stadium ever.
