funny you mention Australia… I follow John Butler Trio on facebook and they’ve had to reschedule over half the shows they were slated to play in the last ten months or so.  Always due to a “big spike” in cases… then when you look at the statistics for that city or state in Australia, they have lower #s than Erie County does 🤣

Last March, I followed the CDC’s advice and got fully vaccinated against COVID-19. I did so more out of a sense of civic duty than any actual fear that I might contract the virus. It was just an easy and scientifically sound way to help slow its spread. Naturally, I was delighted when the CDC finally announced that fully vaccinated people could safely participate in indoor and outdoor activities without wearing inconvenient and clinically useless face masks. Now, the CDC has reversed itself and issued new guidance telling 163.6 million fully vaccinated Americans to put our masks back on. Sorry, no sale.

Deaths happened over the last 18 months.  Up vs how much and what that means is to be determined based on Mortality rates this year and next.  I use context and don't rush to Un educated emotional responses because CNN has a running death count.  

 

 

What are the deaths in DC since the pandemic started and in the last 3 months that warrant 2 year old wearing masks?  

 

I've answered your "question" multiple times. Nothing warrants a shutdown in my view until/unless hospitals are crumbling under weight of cases.

That's a ridiculous data point. There were a mixture of vaccinated, unvaccinated people over the July 4th holiday with thousands of people coming in from out of town--not all who were residents of that town or even MA. With a large population vaccinated, most of your cases will be vaccinated people. 

 

Still need more data because other data points the other way on transmission, still.

The CDC finally released some of the data behind its new mask guidance and as many suspected, it’s a study based on a cluster of infections that happened in Provincetown, Mass. during July.

 

First up, the study “includes several major caveats, most of which are almost completely missing from the hyperbolic news coverage around this”:

 

 

There is also one major caveat that the study authors don't mention: they are only looking at *people who chose to be tested*,

which is a lot different than *all breakthrough infections*.

Presumably people with symptoms are much more likely to be tested.

 

Finally I'd note that the sample sizes here are tiny, leading to very wide confidence intervals.

And the "real life" confidence intervals are likely even wider given that (as the study authors say) the sample isn't very diverse. (P-town = mostly affluent middle-aged gay men.)
