Did you get to Badlands NP? It's like Mars there...........amazing.

Yup.  ?

That was my favorite drive across the US... we stopped in so many places we would never fly to in South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.  Everyone should drive across the US once or twice during the summer and make stops along the way. It can take quite some time, but oh the places you will go...

The comet was overrated.

Like the Texas saying.....all hat, no cattle.

The wild mouse was the real deal, and ski ball.....Who could forget ski ball?

Those summer nights..........

That aside, I still liked Sherkston better.

I dunno, back in the 60's 70's the Comet was a pretty big deal... compared to what they have out there nowadays not so much. The Wild Mouse... used to ride it with my Dad. I think they still have one at Fantasy Island, not sure.

Whatever that place was that you walked through with the tilting floors, mirrors, etc. that ended with a ride down a slide was a fave. The guy that ran the air jets that came up from the floor had the best job there by far... Lift Those Summer Dresses Up Man.

Wife can't make a 5 min. ride to church without telling me how to drive.

Heading to York Beach ME in a month which is just a bit south of there, but same general area.  Have wanted to go there for a long time.  I'm pretty excited.  Gonna eat a lot of lobster.

Try Ogunquit.  Not too far from York. Big beach.  Eat too much lobster and get a tummyache, chase it with something fried, like a funnel cake!

Enjoy!

It's a painful ride.  My son refuses to ride it again.  I went on it alone last summer.  Brutal.  I don't remember it being that bad years ago ... but it is (to me) and I'm officially done with the Comet.

Are you sure the Comet is broken or are you?

xD

It's not broken.  It's just 2 minutes of pain and discomfort.  It could be me, but I know others (younger than me) share the same opinion.  Great rollercoaster.  Just not worth the pain.

Couldn't agree more. Did SD/MT/WY last summer, all driving. An amazing, remote part of our country.

and sackets harbor is flooding apparently.  water coming up from the basement floor, and now covering the floor of the boat house.  it ruined the summer two years ago, and it may happen all over again.  feel sorry for the local business owners.

I used to vacation there every year as a kid when visiting relatives in Watertown

They had a cottage so no basement flooding.

My dad's parents had an island on Lake Nippissing in Ontario.  This was some 40 years ago (boy that dates me), but back then it was no power, no phone, not running water.  Lots of quiet, fishing, exploring.  I would like to go back, but I'm afraid as to what it looks like now.

Did you ever go to the Moe-zee on inn?  It may have been called the Sweetwater Inn back then?

it's a cottage too, but the lowest level is a walkout.  it opens to the dock and boat house.  water will come up from the shore, but the water from the floor itself is the worse problem.

What is your favorite summer vacation spot and what summer trip do you have planned this year?

Mine is Lake George, NY. It's just a wonderful place to be. Will be going again this June.

We stayed at Lake Luzerne once and had a great time. I also like Nick's Lake in Old Forge.

Favorite summer vacations were Hampton Beach, NH and Martha's Vineyard.

My son and I do an annual trip to Manhattan in the summer; usually late July/early August.  We normally do 3 nights.  We pick one new/touristy thing to do each year.  This year will be going to the Met to see their Play it Out Loud guitar exhibition.

Other than that, we like to get a Mets game in, do Times Square, go to the big food festival on the Ave. of Americas, hit a record store or two; always hit the two Guitar Centers; and we always walk by the Dakota to pay our respects to Mr. Lennon, as well as go to Strawberry Fields.

I think we might do Coney Island this year, too.  We've never been.

I offer him to do something new every year, but he loves the trips to the city.  So we'll keep doing them!

We saw To Kill a Mockingbird a couple months ago and really enjoyed it. Just throwing that out there in case that’s up your alley.

Thanks, Augs!

Fergy has been telling me to see "The Book of Mormon" for years.  The only "show" we've ever been to has been the Blue Man Group (last year).  Will try to catch Mormon this year and keep Mockingbird on the list for next.  He just read the book in his English class.

We spend a ton of time in Sackets Harbor during the summer.  i love the thousand islands.  it's one of the few things that makes me pleased to live in ny.  we went to lake george a few years ago on a family vacation too, and it was fantastic.  we were there for a bit less than a week, and wished we had stayed longer.

We did 1,000 Islands when I was probably in middle school, and I still remember that trip vividly and fondly. We did Bar Harbor, ME a few years ago and that was great. Being in the south, it’s AWESOME to get away from the heat for a while!

We just got back from Baha Mar resort in the Bahamas (wedding). YUGE newish resort with like 2,300 rooms across 3 hotels connected by a 100,000 sf casino with 9 pools and countless pool bars and restaurants. They still have some kinks to work out, but overall a great time.

We have a place booked in Hilton Head, SC (Harbour Town) next month for wife, son, his GF and her parents. The star of that trip will be our 5 year old grandson from Nashville. Hot as Hades there in summer, but it’s kind of home. Met my with there, kids born there, etc so it’s special to go back.

The BIG trip is late August/Sept when we do a Windstar 10 day cruise (only 300 person ship) from Barcelona to Lisbon. Very excited for that one! (And I’m sure we’ll be thrilled to be home afterwards!)

We don’t usually travel this much, but this is just how it worked out. Other than the cruise, the best part just might be a long weekend if we can sneak it in up in Highlands, NC. It’s not far away, but I can get a taste of the cooler weather many of you will be enjoying in WNY. Buffalo summers are awesome!

Good call Augie--Highlands is a tucked away gem in the NC mountains that features a lot of great bed & breakfast type locales, top notch!

Favorite summer vacation here is heading back up to WNY for a week or more... good food, relatives/friends, and Letchworth + Watkins Glen. Ice cream too, can't get Perry's down here.
