B-Man being gone makes everyone a bit smarter. What do you miss from him? The raw propaganda or the fake news?

it's too bad someone else didn't give up social media for Lent as well.

You do realize that Rasmussen is always ~10% higher in favor of Rs than any other poll, right?

It's always a Republican outlier and that's why Trump loves it.

The poll average is pretty much unchanged since mid 2018, though it's up a bit from his lows in mid to late-2017.:

Polls are useless

They know the demographics of the people they contact by phone or website

I would agree most public polls are useless. They are usually push or pull polls to get the desired results needed to push a narrative. However, I would LOVE to see the RNC and DNC (and all the candidates) internal polls. Those would probably tell a pretty interesting story.

This is why I miss B-Man.  When things would get like this he'd post a few links and change the subject.

Easter is almost here! I was thinking about him this morning - not in the context of this thread, but in the context of "I sure do miss his links!". I hope he is doing well on his time away.

Something you'll never hear me say.

Feel free to point out some issues being discussed by candidates.

Andrew is.  He is actually talking about and has a plan for what I see as a threat on the horizon which is jobs being eliminated by automation and AI.

Thoughts on Andrew yang? Listened to him on Rogans podcast.

I think all future candidates should spend 3 hours on rogans podcast smoking and drinking whiskey before a decision could be made.

I have been listening a little bit.  I kindof like him.  He seems really smart.  I like that he's addressing the problem of AI and automation and the Gig economy reducing jobs and incomes of people holding jobs to be eliminated.  Not 100% sure UBI is the answer.  I question that if people are given $1000 a month they will use it for productive purposes.  It would have a big impact on the economy however.

I see this as probably the number one problem for society moving forward.  What are people gonna do and how are they going to support themselves?  Yet no one except Andrew and Bernie ever talk about it.

I also like that he doesn't even talk about Trump.  We know,  he's a racist/sexist/homophobe/xenophone/LGBTQ hater/Russia conspirator/scumbag.  What are you going to do besides investigate?  Andrew at least talks about real stuff.

Someone else mentioned him and Rogan.  I like this one:

Automation and AI is coming and is in fact already here and growing.  We need a plan.  Andrew at least has a plan and it's well thought out.

^^^^^^There was a good, long thread awhile back about universal basic income and automation taking over human jobs.

it won't be the same until a drunk robot out of spite sabotages the line so the company has to stop production for a week

Who do you hope wins in 2020? Who's your candidate? Do you have one? Debating between a couple? How 'bout a real conversation instead of a drive-by?

I like Buttiguieg as a candidate the best personally, but I have serious doubts our country is ready to elect a homosexual, so if he wins the primary, I'll have very mixed feelings.

I like Harris probably the most as I'd be comfortable with her in the general election.

I don't want Bernie, but I do like Biden and think this negative coverage of Biden from the left is a sickening representation of a movement going too far.

Beto is all flair and enthusiasm, but not getting enough substance from him, yet, so it'll be interesting once he dives into that.

I really think it'll be one of those 5 nominated... I don't even know why a guy like Swalwell got into the race.

But I'd vote any of these democractic candidates over 45.

I started this thread because candidates began making their announcements back in October.  Aside from announcements, not one candidate has really decided to step up and talk about issues.  They're all afraid to step on their own "foot" (in deference to @Buffalo_Gal) and get bludgeoned to death about it.  The tiptoeing and bludgeoning is supremely entertaining at this point, and that will continue throughout this year. How many (aside from Beto, who claims that there is still a conspiracy between Trump and Russia) even want to go out on a limb at this point about the Mueller investigation and results.  Few, because they're chickenshit.  Also, think about the fact that it is widely speculated (by people outside PPP) that the recent "attacks" on Biden were generated by a D candidate.  Not every anti-D sentiment comes from what you might consider far right nutjobs.

To me, it is interesting to see the juxtaposition of candidates who need to watch EVERY action they perform, and measure EVERY word they say vs. an incumbent who has given himself the freedom to say ANYTHING he wants.  I'm not making a value judgment in that -- just pointing out that Trump has a massive luxury in that regard that none of his prospective opponents do.

Once candidates start talking about issues, people will respond to the issues they raise.  I'm sure that if you dig deeper into this thread, you will find examples of that -- in a PPP kind of way.

Feel free to point out some issues being discussed by candidates.

This might seem self-serving, but I would have made the same thread about Republican primaries in 2015 if I was posting down here at that time.  That spectacle was huge fun, too.

I agree with you about the Biden stuff.  It's a really bad look and incredibly stupid... especially the way the liberal media is slamming him for his "inappropriate" jokes at that speaking event the day after the little twitter apology/video he released.

It will happen at some point but probably after those of us who remember Fergy, Smerlas, JD Hill, Cribbs, etc. are too old to care.  During the 19th Century it was about finding land to farm after leaving Europe. During the early 20th Century it was about farming without working yourself to death.  During the mid-20th Century it was about getting a union job at a factory to work less hours than on the farm.  From the 1960's to 1970's it was about getting a 4 year degree to work in an office or academic institution for more pay than a menial labor job.  During the 1980's and 1990's it was about getting a master's degree to show value to an employer even though you may not use quite a bit of your learning.  Some got their master's just to hang on during the endless layoffs during that time.  From the late 1990's onward it was about having a doctorate and expecting to use a lot of the material learned just to have a job that would pay for a house the size great grandpa would have built with his hands for 1,000-2,000 dollars back 100 years ago.  People have spent the last 150 years trying to get ahead of the rat race only to find the rat has been gaining ground on them over time.  The gimmicks have just about been all used up to get ahead of the curve.  Doctors giving up practices or retiring early because malpractice insurance was eating them up.  The argument in part against socialism was it is dangerous to have a large part of a population have idle hands but we are going to find out at some point if this is in fact true.

It's bidness as usual.  They're playing hardball.

Past similar cases i can think of include the "Dean Scream" and Thomas Eagleton and Biden's plagiarism. I still wonder if Gary Hart was set up.
