Granted, it's not a sure thing but since we let Rusty Jones walk, injuries have seemed to go up.  The new upgrade may help to fix that.

Do you have numbers to back that up or is it just a gut feeling?

Sucks for the Sabres, since as an owner of two pro sports teams in the same city, Pegs can only upgrade one weight room.  It's a bylaw

Well that explains why one corner of the complex contains the skating rink.

LOL I am a member there simply because of the proximity to my office. I always find it funny that one day a week they have a big spread of bagels and cream cheese for the members.

Because? Eating is bad?

I'm no nutritionalist and I haven't stepped foot in a gym in 25 years, but carbs and protein (bagels and cheese) are good for an active body, no?

Remember the fuss over the removal of video games last year?  McDermott was going to kill the culture of closeness the players had created with FIFA games.

Good on the Pegulas for this.  Well done.

I believe the game room was installed under Whaley's direction, during Marrone's brief tenure.  I imagine Whaley had more than a few laughs at Marrone's expense on that one.

I don't know of statistics for injuries but I don't think the No Huddle would have been as successful without him.  We had our share of on the field injuries but nothing ever pointed to a player lack of conditioning.

...based on the scope and description of the endeavor, I think it is well beyond a "weight room".....it sounds more like an encompassing sports facility dedicated to the health and well being of players.....every team has a weight room...but this is being cited as the "best facility in the league"......

Yes, weights, sleep pods, massage facilities, float tanks....I don't think any of it will translate directly to wins on a football field.

The Sabres were given one of the best "hang out rooms" in the NHL several years ago and the team only got softer.  Correlation does not imply causation but the new locker room/lounge/snack area/hang out room didn't improve the product on the ice at all.

This stuff may help in luring free agents to Buffalo though, on both teams.  So there's that.

When I was in school, the next town over the kids on the football team all lifted and they all were built. It definitely was a culture that spread. It took awhile but my school finally got a serious weight room.

I like this information about being the best in an area I respect.

Interesting. Long term at the Ralph? Training camp there?

I was thinking the same. At this point if a new stadium DOES get built downtown, theyre not going to have the real-estate to have a stadium, training facility and also parking for fans!

I love "The Ralph" and have no problem with it. But this does leave us wondering if they are investing to stay there, or investing in becoming a bills training /community use facility.

And leaving Rochester I think has ZERO affect for their bills fans. Seriously, a Rochester Bills fan will stop supporting a team or feel alienated because  they dont come practice in their city anymore?  Bills dont practice in canada or Syracuse and still have fans coming to support their favorite team.  The only people who will be affected the most are the school and local businesses maybe.

There is an arch-support specialist in the Albany area well-known for his expertise.  He works (or did at the time) with some high profile clients, and former NBAer John Starks credited him with extending and improving his career. I was there with my kids, and we talked for a while about the impact he felt he could have on a playe like Aaron Schobel as he was having his issues with plantar fasciitis at the time.  He told me that he worked with many professional athletes and teams, but that the Bills didn't see value in that sort of thing.  He felt that there were some things that he could do to help AS but it was probably never going to happen.

As as we were leaving, there was a rather large box over off to the side with the last name "Diehl" on it, and I asked if it was for David Diehl of the NYG.  He just smiled and said he worked with lots of professional athletes.

Anyway, it's awesome to see and hear about the Pegs willingness to commit substantial time, money and effort into WNY.

Too bad your pal Dr. Scholl couldn't help Starks as he got walked all over by Reggie Miller....

Won't make much difference if the players aren't using it in the offseason when it would most useful.

What you describe the Sabres as having is not the same as what the Bills are getting.  The items described in the Bills expanded facility are directly related to the mind and body.  They aren't hang out rooms, unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean.

Both mind and body have a direct effect in playing well.  While playing well does not guarantee wins, playing well does increase the chances of the possibility.

I can see no reason to build a new stadium with $200 ticket prices all around.  makes no sense in WNY.  none

Only 9 NFL teams had an average ticket price of $200 or more in 2017. With a bargain basement average price of just $94, there is plenty of room for increased pricing in Buffalo when a new facility is opened. $200 is unrealistic, but that would more than double the average ticket price. Revenues will go up when the Bills can attract fans that currently stay home on Sundays.

John Starks had his share of successes.  And Reggie Miller walked all over most players.  He's in the Basketball Hall of Fame for good reason.  Reggie was cold blooded.

Point is that it's needed most outside of all of that time---the offseason.

I've said it before--the next CBA should make the players salaried employees there they get paid year round monthly, but they have to show up for work every week.  They could stay in better shape than, obviously, many currently do between seasons.  Also, teams wouldn't be stuck paying so many injured players who go down in high numbers as minis, voluntaries, OTA's, camp, pre-season start.

...and when will the strike start?.....and with the ungodly flow of cash, you really think they'll worry about teams' paying?.....not a chance....

You don't think every owner would jump at the chance of not having to pay for a full year's pay on a player who shows up to camp and gets hurt for the season?

Under the system I mentioned, they would be far less likely to suffer thesis injuries if they all started the season in, essentially, game shape.  Less injuries=less players paid not to play.  That's what I was getting at.
