Oh. My. God. Who do I have to slap? Sam Austin was a great man worthy of being remembered.

What people NEED to understand is that you judge men according to the times in which they lived. In Austin’s time, slavery was ok. It was legal. The conventional thought was that it was ethical.

Why dont we just get rid of George Washington too?

My daughter majored in history. She said they taught her this in class when a similar argument was brought by students.

Are we sure this is a precedent we want to set?

In 100 years what we're doing will be viewed negatively by some ...

That and I’m pretty sure that it would blow the minds of black people in America if they found out that when it comes to slavery, they ain’t special. Slavery was something accepted and practiced globally, until around 200 years ago when attitudes toward it started changing. Every race/ethnicity has been enslaved at some point. It’s just how the world was.

...I’ll bite. What’s ironic?

I thought it was funny because (and I may be going out on a limb here) in expressing your belief that Mr Austin should be remembered, you apparently forgot that his name wasn't Sam - it was Stephen. Stephen F Austin.

I figured you were thinking Sam Houston. Innocent mistake, a little honest irony, a good chuckle from yours truly.

Why don't we just get rid of George Washington too?  If anybody could be around 100 years from now they would be flabbergasted as to what would be taught for American History.  I guarantee there will be little said in regards to being a founding father and the emphasis will be on Washington being an extender of slavery.  For anybody that went through NYS schools they would remember a wide variety of material including but not limited to European studies.  The future for social studies will be grade 9 European Studies with the rise of Marxism/ Communism.  Grade 10 will be Great Society (1960's) Studies.  Grade 11 will be the Clinton's with old texts thrown out in favor of Chelsea's "contributions."  Grade 12 will be optional in terms of social studies but an AP Obama course will be offered for all high schools in New York and will be weighted for honors consideration such as valedictorian, etc..

Uhhh, I think we all know there was only one real Steve Austin. And he was stone cold before Stone Cold.

I know this crowd tends to exaggerate these issues, but they do reflect poorly on the left.

Austin is Austin. The Washington football team is the Redskins. Cleveland's football team is the Browns. But those ridiculous statues revering the confederacy should indeed be torn the hell down. There's always groups that go too far and ruin it for everyone.

Lol. I’ve been studying the revolution and have been reading a lot about Sam Adams?

I used to drive by his (SFAs) statue all the dang time when I was recruiting for the army in Houston.

The Battle of San Jacinto...costliest siesta in Mexican history.

We're getting ready to put our CA house on the market, and give Northern Idaho a try. The property I can get for a fraction of the cost of my CA is ridiculous (and I'm talking about 4-5 acres), with MUCH lower state and property taxes.

So in the next year I will be uprooting my company and basing it there, and to be honest, I can not wait to stop getting crushed by the cost to run a company in CA.

Northern Idaho?  -Kind of a mixed-bag of Mormons, white separatiststs/supremacists, and alt-right douchebags.  -I suppose you'll enjoy it.

-At least for a while.

The inklings of anything going on at all in 34s skull is a good start, don’t discourage this but try to steer it to something productive...

You're exactly correct about all of that. If fact, it's worse than that. Everyone has ropes hanging from trees, white bed sheets are very expensive, and all the women are deplorable whores.

Please ensure you tell that to all your socialist friends when they attempt to avoid the high tax rates of the coastal elites. They don't want to go anywhere near that Northern Idaho.

My thanks in advance.
