So you guys just call and say you want a discount, or do you actually say you want to cancel and then they start spewing discounts at you?

I always say I want to keep my bill as low as possible, been a customer for x years what kind of discounts can you give me?  This year since all my stuff was expiring ($60 off per month) I told her would like that and btw last year you gave me Sunday Ticket for free...can you come close to that deal?  That was it.

I just called.  Asked for Customer Retention rep said he was with the Loyalty Dept.  I asked for a discount off my bill and he said let me see what I can do...He removed my Sunday Ticket Renewal of $48.99×6months and the $17×6 mos Max upgrade that I added last online (which by the way is only an upgrade not the Sunday Ticket by itself).

Rep came back with $60 off my total bill (no contract needed).  He then said he found 6 mos free of HBO or Cinemax.  I took HBO.

I then asked any discounts on Sunday Ticket, he looked and said No.  Told me I should try back after the first week starts for Sunday Ticket and discounts should be available. I'll try again but happy with the $60 off which makes my bill $68 mo. with free HBO.  Call only took 10 mins. Quickest call ever in 10 years!

Yep....great job!  I like it that she specifically told me no contract...this is just a loyalty reward....amazing!

Just poured myself a nice cocktail.

i called Directv tonight. My contract was due to expire in 2 days.

Background: longtime AT&T mobile customer with 5 devices on a 20G family plan & longtime Directv customer.

i explained my contract was expiring and wanted to see what was available for discounts. I also said I was a longtime AT&T mobile customer. I did not escalate to loyalty/retention.

This is what I got:

They are combining me into one bill.

AT&T mobile: Unlimited plan for $25 less than my current plan.

Directv: $60 discount for 1 year and Sunday Ticket for free.

Combining both in one bill gets me HBO Premium for free. That does not expire until I leave AT&T

It took about 30 minutes and was on hold a good deal as he investigated what was available and looked at both of my accounts. I asked for his supervisor after we were finished and complimented on how good he was with customer service. Last time I called I got a jerk but jackpot this time.

Now back to enjoying my drink.

I've never threatened to cancel.....I ask for ways to reduce my bill....DirecTV has discounts built in to the system...if you're eligible they come up...this year it seems $60 off a month for 12 months is common theme

I could use this since I pay $124 a month for the service right now. However, we have only been customers for two-years so I don't know how much room I have to stand on.

I knew they would open this up to streaming eventually...not in my market yet, though.

hmm, the details said you have to have a minimum $55 dollar DTV Now bill, excluding premium and subscription services. That seems way high. I have Sling at my place in DC and pay $30 a month, and that includes $5 a month for a DVR.

It took 2-3 calls but I was able to get $60 off my monthly bill for 12 months without having to agree to a contract. I also just got an email saying that since I’m a season ticket holder I have an offer for Sunday ticket max for 4 payments of $24.99. The person I talked to kind of alluded to the fact that some Sunday ticket offers were coming but he worked the $60/mo discount in just in case I couldn’t score any. Definitely took more effort this year but I’ve gotten a better result than in the last few. Usually if I can get them down to 1/2 price or so, I’m content.

Interesting.  That's a first I believe.

Yep never had that before. Forgot to mention that it’s for current DTV customers and it looks like they’ll be verifying my info & season ticket member status. It said I should hear back within a day or two. For season ticket holders that don’t have DTV currently, they’ll throw it in for free if you sign up. Think that’s been pretty standard in recent years.

I've been with DirecTV for almost 20 years but when I called the guy said thanks for being with us since 2016.  I said that's not right, I've been a customer for 20 years.  He said since AT&T bought them their system can be off on showing customers actual length of time with them.  I don't know how much it may actual matter since I got the $60 off a month but the guy thought I've only been a customer for 2 years which is not correct.

The more I read these posts of success, the more frustrated I am about the deal I accepted yesterday.  It was my 3rd or 4th call, so they broke me.  I just couldn't take another call!

Seeing all of the success that many others were having, I decided to call again.  I got a rep in India and politely asked to be transferred to the Loyalty Department.  They transferred me and I got an experienced rep on the line - you can always tell within the 30 seconds.  She worked her magic and got me an additional $75 (or so) off of Sunday Ticket, plus a free upgrade to Max.  So my final cost for the full Max package was less than $75.  She REMOVED my $15 off for 12 months and said that I should be getting something in the range of $55 per month, but that the system had not yet generated the offer for me.  She said she would give me a one-time $55 credit to take care of this month and to call back after the close of my next billing cycle, when the $55 off per month for a year should be available.  It appears that she still gave me the $15 off for the first month, but removed the last 11 months of the deal, as my acceptance of this could potentially negate a larger offer that is coming soon.  She said that I had large discounts from last year that just rolled off of my account and it can take a full billing cycle (or 2) for them to "regenerate."  I took her word for it, took the additional savings for now and will call back in a month.  I am much happier than I was yesterday.  So yes, they broke me, but not completely.  Persistence definitely pays off with these folks.

I've used Sunday Ticket's streaming service the last couple years, but I just can't do it anymore. Way too much buffering and sometimes low quality video for my liking; I did a trial of HeheStreams this preseason and it is absolutely incredible how much better it is IMO.

PSA: Beware the Fine Print: As part of my re-upping with DTV, I was given a "free upgrade" to the Genie 2 box.  Tech came out Monday to install, as described in an earlier post, but found out my protection plan goes from $8.99/month to $20.99/month with the Genie 2.  I checked and it's there in the fine print, but of course the fine rep who gave me the "free" upgrade failed to mention that.

So, I'll start the merry-go-round again with a call to DTV tomorrow...good gawd, I hate all this.

A lot of issues with Genie 2...every time I call they try to get me to agree to install it....

i called up and said i was planning on cancelling everything. my reason was because i only need direct tv for the ticket, which is way too expensive this year. the first lady i spoke with offered to get it down to $200/year. i said that was still too much so she said she would connect me with someone else.

the next person gets on and tells me that they'll give me my current programming (i also have some premium channels like hbo and a few others, and a second wireless receiver) along with the ticket for $90 for 12 months. the only catch is that i need to commit to a 12 month contract. i went ahead and agreed since i don't plan on moving anytime soon.

that's probably the best deal i've gotten. usually i only get them down to $150 for the ticket.

Some new streaming availability for Sunday Ticket:  DIRECTV NOW subscribers with a billing zip code in the greater Los Angeles, Phoenix, Boston, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Hartford, and Louisville areas can now subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket as an add-on to their DIRECTV NOW subscription even if you are not a student and live in a area that an get DIRECTV.

But can't figure out how much they charge on top of the 55 bucks a month.  If anyone finds out, please post here.

I never saw that in any of the media reports yesterday either...I did see where ST Max is not yet available.  I suppose it will soon, as well as other markets.

This is the year they get all the streaming kinks out of the way, sort of a Beta run, and next season ST Max should be widely available to stream.
