Sorry but that column just reinforces what a mediocre writer he is. He offers his opinion and advertises them as facts. There is nothing inhis column thatthe lunch pail fandoesn't already know or couldn't surmise on his own.

He is also very selective morally: he refuses to use the word Redskins in his column and obviously supports his openly gay daughter but will not support the collusion cases of Kaepernick or Reid. He likes to masquerade as a beacon of progressive values but refuses to touch his corporate master, the NFL. In other words, he is a hypocrite and corporate shill. No wonder the MSM is on its last legs.

King has more connections inside the NFL than any sportswriter I can think of.  It's the thing I like about him most.  When King calls someone in the NFL, they usually answer the phone.  None of the Bills beat writers come close to King's level of access.

As to his opinions and moral views, he's like anybody else: not entirely consistent and sometimes wrong.

a) there are young writers at NBC too, believe it or not.  It's not some grand altruistic move on his behalf for the rest of the staff if he is screwing another set of set of young writers over at NBC once he moves.  So don't try to sell it at this selfless act.  Whatever his exact reason reason is for moving, it is not this.

b)  calling yourself a 225 pound gorilla is weird.  it's also pretty egotistical.  even if it is true with regards to his column

Disagree on everything here...

I didn't even know NBC had a sports magazine or whatever.

My money says Pete is getting more money. A little less pressure for more money.

This was my take on it too. He said some stuff about giving other writers a chance (wherever he goes, he's going to prevent people from getting a shot) and some stuff about people dying earlier (he then went on to say that he is basically going to do the same thing for NBC, so I doubt it's really about lightening his work load ).

The other expectations may differ eg. expectation to craft an obituary instantly in his off time

Oh for sure.  Week in and week out though, I would expect his work load to be approximately the same

The guy writes a great column.   He's plugged in all around the NFL and gets great information.   He has great insights into the game.

He also has an enormous ego.   He can be pompous and condescending.   He's Boston centric to a fault.

Still, he's great at what he does.   I'm glad he isn't retiring.

What issue?  Spring 2018, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13.....?

The most recent. I needed some beach reading.

I learned that if i just do what "insert pro does" I can hit it farther and straighter. Its just as easy as 1 2 3.

Reading those magazines, I got to the point where I was yelling "oh no!" at the top of my backswing.  I put down the mags and the clubs, took up reading TBD instead.

He'll be doing one column a week and doesn't have to be on call like he was at SI when breaking news happens.   It's a semi-retirement gig, where he can be the grey-haired éminence grise rather than the face of the organization.   It will be a lot less work and pressure.

The "kids" at MMQB will be flying solo, with no more "I'd rather hear what Peter King has to say" pressure from readers.    At NBC, he'll be one guy rather than the man in charge, so he won't be blocking any other writers from carving out their own space...

I just finished the Berenstain Bears series, you uncultured swine.

they're not short, but if you spend a lot of time in your car, the berenstain bears on audio book is just wonderful.
