Harrison Phillips will be a BEAST!

I agree. He isn’t slow off the ball but he doesn’t have Kyles quickness at the snap. However I think he will be much stronger than KW against the run. Phillips is definitely a one tech. nose tackle. He will be hard to keep off the field imo.

Isn’t that what Star plays in this D?

And you're the guy who p_sses in it anyway... Sure hope those homer pom-poms are still bouncing in November.

You're done.  Welcome to ignore, Negative Pollyanna.

If he does his job in this defense, Edmunds and Millano will look like the beasts.   But the kid knows what it means to do the grunt work in order to win games.   Love the pick.  Kyle Williams he's not.  But as a rotational run stuffing DT, well our run defense was pretty bad last year.

Taller and heavier than Kyle.  Style of play isn’t that similar either.  Only comparison really is they are both white which is why you see people make the comparison

Kyle Williams has quicker explosion off the LOS. That's the factor that has allowed him to be disruptive in the backfield over the years.  They're both good at hand fighting in order to shed blocks.  I think that's where Harrison's wrestling background gives him a leg up on some DT prospects.

Heard this too. Ex State Champ Wrestler and Strong Christian values. McDermott’s dream profile of a player. A lot of Community Service too. He will be a fan favorite for sure. Great add to the program

Diddling little boys is also a christian value. So is televagelism etc.. Very ugly values IMO.

Please tell me McDermott is not a bigott, because I am constatly reading form posters how he chose this guy or that because of their Christian values.

We all just have no idea how he fell so far

Not overly athletic, a tweaner(too small for nose, not quick enough for 3 technique) and motor.  A knock was he didnt chase down the field plays so looks poorly on film.  The response to the motor is that he played nearly every defensive snap over 95%, so he had to be calculated with his energy.  Mcdermott likes to maximize effort and energy of his dline so that wont be an issue here.

There was a point where Kyle Williams was not Kyle Williams.

I still remember when we drafted him....in what...the FIFTH round...

What was the knock on him at that time.....short arms I think.

I know this....when we drafted Adolphus Washington I was VERY concerned about the talk that he was  not stout against the run and his pass rush ability was being promoted...first and foremost a DT has to CONTROL THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE.......I think we found that with this guy.

Phillips is a future pro bowler in this Defense. He's not just a doubleteam eating 1-tech, he can penetrate- as shown by 100+ tackles last year. He'll be a rotational guy in year 1, but will really take off post-Kyle.

I'll say this: With Phillips and Star in the middle and Edmunds behind him, teams will NOT be running straight up the gut against the Bills like they did last year.

Im starting to get very excited about this defense

- DT is set......and if you need pass rush in the middle you can flip Shaq Lawson inside to pair with Meatball on certain packages.....Star and Phillips should clog the run nicely

- LB's much more athletic...not just Edmunds but keep in mind Milano goes into his second year and was a STUD when they finally let him play...he was everywhere

- The secondary is total quality

- They addressed pass rush.....you can flip Lorax out to rush the passer also

I am expecting a big jump on D this year (which jumped from last year from the previous year) possibly top 5

Can't wait to see our goalline defense with Harrison

DE: Shaq Lawson

DT: Kyle Williams

NT: Star Lotulelei

DT: Harrison Philips

DE: Trent Murphy

SLB: Lorenzo Alexander

MLB: Tremaine Edmunds

WLB: Matt Milano

CB: Vontae Davis

S: Jordan Poyer

CB: Tre White

Good luck trying to run on that stout run stuffing defense line with those huge athletic Linebackers behind them

I remember Kyle Williams being Kyle Williams from day 1 week 1 practice 1.   They didn't want to admit McCargo was a mistake because Kyle was doing every thing better than he was but Kyle could always play.

My point being when we took Kyle he was a 5th round pick....and we didnt know much about him at the time like the Rook

Now to be fair here.....the rook is stepping in behind a multi pro bowler sure fire wall of famer in the Meatball and NOT that loser John McCargo.

but both were late round picks and unknowns to start..that is all I am saying.

My feeling if he gets anywhere close to Kyle Williams in play we scored

I agree I think getting him in the late 3rd was an absolute homerun for this draft.   He will come in here like a sponge and soak up a lot of knowledge from both Kyle and Star.  I expect a heavy rotation from our Dline finally now that we have guys worth rotating.   I'd like to see Adolphus Washington step it up too because I feel like he should be doing the 3 tech behind Kyle while Phillips should be backing up Star at the nose, but wherever they put them I expect a better run defense this year vs last year.   Add a much faster LB in Edmunds and a 2nd year LB in Millano and our front 7 should be improved.

I live out here is PAC-12 country and will tell you that this kid is a beast.  He was the middle anchor of a very good Stanford defense.  Smart, instinctive, tough, physical, hard worker.  The second coming of Kyle.

I concur

Not really... I remember not liking Kyle Williams. I wanted us to start McCargo. He seemed like he played better early on in their careers but staff seemed to love Kyle Williams and I couldn't figure out why... Boy was I wrong.

I was biased for Kyle from the start for one simple reason. I played with #95 in junior high and that was my number so I was all in on Kyle from the get go.   I also had a Sam Adams Jersey that i recycled as well.   Still have it.   Still have my Dareus error jersey that I'm probably going to recycle as well.
