Let's say we can't or don't get up to #2 and QBs go 1,2,3 - Darnold/Browns, Rosen/Giants, Mayfield/Jets. Who would pick a QB next? #4 - Browns - would have just picked a QB #5 - Broncos - already have Keenum, think they are a contender now. #6 - Colts - have Luck #7 - Bucs - have Winston #8 - Bears - have Trubisky #9 - SF - have Garropolo #10 - Oakland - have Carr #11 - Miami - maybe Miami would consider a QB Obviously other teams are in the mix and could leapfrog into that position. But it is possible that a) the Giants don't take a QB and b) no QBs are drafted between 4 and 11. If the Bills are set on Josh Rosen, none of that helps. But I suspect that they may be interested in both Allen and Rosen. Beane has the liberty to go slow and continue to evaluate because he has the ammo to get up into the top 5, but the possibility exists that a guy they like falls to him. Everyone seems to want Beane to give away the farm to get to #2. He may do that, but this is a case where patience could be rewarded. The Bears last year gave away a fortune to move up from #3 to #2 to get a player they could have stayed put for. The Jets may have just done the same thing if the guy they want is Mayfield. Also, teams behind us who may be interested in QB (Arizona, Baltimore, Chargers) know we are the hurdle that needs to be jumped. But he won’t be there most likely because other teams know the Bills are in need of a QB and if they want to get their guy before we pick they will move up ahead of us. In a perfect world tho, he would be available for the same reasons you say. I also believe the Giants take Barkley at 2 or the Browns will forst overall and then take QB at 4. Ill say this, if we get to 8 or so and the QB they want (no matter who it is) is still there, I expect us to move up no matter what the cost. My guess - and that's all it is - is 3 are gone when Bills pick so it's just a matter of which 3 are taken. The top 4 seem to be Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield and Allen so one of them should be there at 12. Then there's Jackson, Rudolph and all the rest. frogger Posted March 20, 2018 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Allen scares me, all of that arm talent and numbers that bad...I get it, he can throw through a wall, but all the highlights show him throwing to stationary receivers, it looks like he misses his first read and then runs around till someone is open. I get the argument that he didn't have superior talent around him, but nor was he playing against superior talent. Our WRs/TE might be the NFL version of the Wyoming receivers. Against power five teams, he was 48 of 96 for 427 yards, with one touchdown and eight interceptions. He only had two games over 300 yards passing in his entire collegiate career. One of those was against a school named Gardner Webb and the other took three overtimes. His career completion percentage is 56.2, despite having one of the lowest drop rates among this year's QBs. He had 44 TDs in his career, to go with 21 INTs. To put that into perspective, Baker Mayfield had 41 TD passes this year alone. Aside from his prototypical size and cannon arm, what do you see in Allen that makes you believe he'd be a standout QB? I don’t follow college football other than watching highlights or once draft time rolls around. With that being said I like big strong armed QBs. I don’t like California QBs even though Allen is from California. He’s also not from southern cal. Grew up in a small town. He grew up as a farmer. But let’s get back to football. Hes big. Tall. Mobile enough. Has a super strong arm and a razor sharp release. While i I used to agree with all the flaws you speak of. I watched him a little bit and I think some of those things can and will be coached. I understand that he hasn’t done a whole lot against some really weak opponents. But I also look at the quality of team mates he had. He played for Wyoming. It’s not like this kid was around NFL caliber players like other QBs in Southern California teams, Oklahoma, etc. I will admit, the completion % scares me a little bit but I feel that can be fixed with nfl quality players around him and some coaching. With all that said, I really like Mayfield, although I feel he’s a little short. But his attitude and fire makes me want him a lot. I also really like Rosen (even tho I’m not a fan of SCal QBs) a lot. I would be happy with either of these 2 as well. I don’t want Darnold at all and would absolutely hate Jackson.
