I have low expectations for this game, but that's because it could be a trap game for the Bills. The one thing that keeps my hopes tempered is that the players showed that, despite playing a Rams team that they should definitely beat and knowing it, they still got themselves up and put in 100% effort. The trap games are losses when egos get in the way. They are wins when a team shows up ready to absolutely dominate. Let's hope they are reflective of their leaders on the field (Tyrod, Kyle, Corey) and that Rex has his ego in check and works with his coaches to create a winning gameplan and stays on the players throughout the week.

There are NO trap games, that has been statistically proven beyond a doubt by Football Outsiders analyzing over 10 years worth of data. There are times bad teams beat good teams. It happens. However, bad teams beat good teams the same percentage of time when its a "trap" game or not a trap game. In fact when they analyzed the data, good teams beat bad teams slightly MORE often when they were considered "trap" games.

This is a myth that just won't die. When a bad team beats a good team, that's all it is. It has nothing to do with any "trap" situation

Rex needs to channel his inner Vince Lombardi and ride the team hard this week. Lombardi's philosophy was to build the team up when they were struggling to boost their confidence and ride them hard when they were doing well to avoid complacency. If Rex rides them hard this week I think they'll be ready to prove something for him vs San Francisco.

Yup, we beat this myth to a pulp a few years ago, but it still lives on in so many fans' (and media members') minds.

Thank you....was wondering when someone would bring this ridiculous thing up

LEAGUE RANKINGS

SF 1-4 BUF 3-2

31 ST OFFENSE 28 TH

20 TH DEFENSE 15 TH

31 ST PASSING 32 ND

8 TH RUSHING 3 RD

That's kind of deceptive. We have a bend don't break defense (except for the Jets) and we're still tied for 5th in points allowed (with Denver FWIW) while they are 26th.

They may be 8th running the ball, while we are 13th defending it, but we are 3rd rushing vs 31st run D. They are near the bottom on per attempt as well, but Chippy likes to run so many plays you can grind it out on them.

I wonder if we've ever been favored by more than 7.5 during the drought. It feels weird and makes me a little nervous.

Did a little research here.

Since 2006 we are 4-0 when favored by a touchdown or more.

Week 14, 2007 - Bills favored vs. Miami by 7 points. (W, 38-17)

Week 3, 2008 - Bills favored vs. Oakland by 10 points. (W, 24-23)

Week 4, 2008 - Bills favored @ St. Louis by 8.5 points. (W, 38-17)

Week 17, 2009 - Bills favored vs. Indianapolis by 8 points. (W, 30-7)

I think too many of you are getting all up in arms over his "trap" game comment. It's a matter of semantics, It's essentially a euphemism for complacency. The point stands, hopefully the Bills won't be complacent going into this game and treat it with the same urgency that they would if they were facing the Patriots.

There are no stats that support the existence of "complacent" games either.

Exactly! But we know that complacency is a human trait and that some people and organizations are more immune to it than others.

Statistics don't bear that out, if you look at how heavily favored teams generally perform.

Anyway, enough on this topic. Rex said all the right things postgame and in yesterday's presser. They are focused on SF.

You're right, since there are no statistics, complacency doesn't happen in the NFL, because you know, there are no stats for it.
