Mad about the Ragland trade? We could always be Tampa Bay..

well, the price would have been scrutinized and Whaley's sanity would have been questioned. Thing is though that kicker Could be one of the best kickers picked since the raiders grabbed the polish cannon. That kid, will win some big games if he pans out. and for many years. It's a physically low stress position. janikowski is entering his 16th or 17th season now. most games played by any Raider. And is still money. i rememeber when he was picked in round one the Raiders were laughed at. it worked. i wish the Bills could have got this kid in the 4th. If not just for freeing up a game day roster spot. Screw this ' kicking specialist' stuff. I never thought anyone would pay that price for him, but he was never going to last into the late rounds. maybe kickbacks being placed at the 25 this year will change the philosophy of having to kick deep in the end zone. the average kickoff runback is less than 25 yards. in the least the Bills need a guy who can nail PAT's. IMO Carp will be their kicker again this year. In the least they need to get him some competition.

Analytically speaking there is virtually NO correlation between FG percentage year to year, and kickoff distance is actually the more valuable trait and is more consistent year to year. With KO distance being marginalized if not completely taken out of the equation with TouchBacks moved to the 25 yard line, this makes little to no sense to give up those picks to draft a kicker.

Guys, the local sports radio in Tampa calling it the "WTF" pick. I was shocked as Licht is a good GM coming from Arizona where he built a great team out West. The argument that you have a stud K who could be there for 15 years is fine, but front office changes and easy to try and save money after his rookie contract and cut a kicker. I thought it was foolish. I would never take a K before the 4th round.

As to Ragland, it bugs me when people from we "gave up a 2nd, and two 4ths". No, we swapped our 2nd round pick. We didn't give up a 2nd, so bottom line is we gave up two 4th round picks. Considering we have a 4th in compensatory, and we'll get another 4th in compensatory picks next year for Bradham makes it palatable to me.

If your someone who doesn't like Ragland thinking he's only a two down back, I can accept that argument. I disagree I believe the Bills staff can work with him in pass coverage and keep him nice and lean.

Not sure why you have this rule. If you have a kicker who is the next Janikowski or Gotskowski, he will be your teams highest scoring player for many years. Why is that worse than blowing a 2nd on a mediocre OL guy or an NT or a 3rd on a shaky WR or JAG LBs?

This has been discussed. When you factor in the salary cap, getting a great kicker under contract at a rookie rate for four or five years is a significant savings, because most elite kickers are acquired via free agency at $4-$5M per season. If he's truly elite, it makes sense.

I think this is funny....many of you who criticize every move the Bills make are ok with Tampa trading up to get a K.....yet pissed off that Whaley moved up 8 spots to get a starting LB. Would you have preferred he picked the K?

Aguayo is a stud at FG's, but the knock is KO's. If I'm taking a kicker high, much less moving up to get him, I'm expecting the total package.

That being said, I hope the Bills give serious consideration to Ka'imi Fairbairn in the 6th, if he's there. He can do it all.

A sure thing K? Why not? Ours blows.

That won't matter any more.

Actually, I just looked at the list and the last 8 fourth rounders are/were all pretty solid contributors, which is more than you can say for the last 7 second rounders. Cockerel was cut but he now starts for Pittsburgh, and the Bills took him one pick before Martavis Bryant. There is plenty of talent in the fourth round. This franchise continues to not get it.

How can you say the second round has not been good to the Bills over the years?

Thurman Thomas

Cordy Glenn

Aaron Williams

Robert Woods

Ronald Darby

Aaron Schobel

One HOF player and five very solid contributors - this is just off the top of my head there are probably more.

A K in 2nd round and you would be ok with that? You disagree with everything and everyone on this board and you would have no problem with a K in 2nd round......where is the guarantee he is a sure thing?

I'm betting the new KO rule will be changed after the season when they realize it's leading to more returns and thus more chances for injuries. Which is opposite of what they want to see happen.

I would have taken Aguayo in the 4th rd

This draft is all in for Rex's D , Jaylon and Myles went before I would have taken them also.

Whaley is playing it safe so far , I agree

Yep they have to play it safe. If they don't fix this defense then they will all be out of a job. Rex is "all in" on turning this D around. We are 1 good safety away from what we needed to do

Agree with all of this. 4th sounds perfect. Tampa really wanted him kudos to them for overpaying.

Not only a 2nd, but a 3rd and 4th from Tampa at least. That is far too pricey IMO.

Anyone remember Mike Nugent?

Dude, it's Tampa. B-)

I didn't agree with the pick, but overall don't be surprised if they don't have a winning season this year. I like the promotion of Cutter, he put together a highly productive offense, great running game, and they are bringing in talent on the defense. Most importantly, Mike Smith was a great DC before a head coach and very experienced to improve the defense this year. McCoy is going to compliment Spence really well.

Still stupid to pick the kicker that high.
