There already exist the UNLV stadium and it's few non football events bookings are a handful of Monster Truck shows and a motocross event. This line of thinking is always put forward but never bears out.... The slot machines alone would pay for it. (edit: I'm being snarky, not literal.) That wouldn't be the case in Oakland for example. Those other events will certainly materialize though. There are stadium fights pretty much every year (think Canelo just fought in Dallas). That would be once or twice a year. Bigger music fesitvals like EDC and country superfest which are 3-4 day events could go there. I wouldn't be surprised if Ultra Music Fest moved there or at least EDC grow to that. They can also host longer runs of major artists because people will go there. As an example The Rolling Stones may play 1 night in Buffalo but 5 in Vegas. The HS football playoffs and Bishop Gorman will be there. The new stadium in Vegas will easily be 50 plus nights now that I think about it. The reason that Vegas doesn't have that stuff now is the venue doesntbexist. Sam Boyd Stadim seats 40K max and is pretty much a dump. The new stadium will be significantly larger and a palace. Another poster said that the stadium could be built just for those events. ATT stadium is probably the most solidly booked such venue in the country and over the next 3 months, there are Cowboys games, a Texas Tech/Baylor game, Cottton Bowl, high school football games and a monster truck show and some bullriding stuff. No concerts. And Texas can fill seats in the ATT for high school football. No chance Vegas could. Vegas will be the only NFL city with no actual hometown fans. It will be another attraction like Circ du Soleil or Celine Dionne or fake Beatles shows---something to bundle into a package or to have the hotel concierge hook you up with. Sam Boyd is a glorified high school stadium. If Vegas builds a retractable dome stadium you better believe the big events will start knocking on their door. As Bills fans over the last few decades hearing about our team possibly moving was tough. On the other hand from the league side of it, it couldn't make more sense. The stadium will have elaborate luxury suites for every casino. Every game will be a guaranteed sell out. You'll have diehard Raiders fans making the trip a few times a season, you'll have the Raiders opposition of any given week, purchase 1,000's. "let's go to an away game and make a long weekend of it... They play the Raiders this year.... Vegas baby!" Then you'll have packages with casinos and travel agents filling the remainder. There's A LOT of people in the area outside of the strip, and frankly there's not a lot for them to do since they only visit the strip/tourist areas when they're hosting friends. JohnC Posted January 14, 2017 Share Posted January 14, 2017 Whenever I read about the spate of stories associated with relocation I become very grateful that the Peuglas' bought the local pro teams and are clearly committed to the region. I have been a harsh critic of Ralph Wilson as an owner but to his credit and a reflection of his honor he made the arrangements that kept the team in the region. machine gun kelly Posted January 14, 2017 Share Posted January 14, 2017 The Raiders bailed on Oakland once before and the city has been promising the Davis family for years ver 20 years a partially funded stadium. At least Buffalo and NYS knew what they had in the Bills and compromised with $130 million dollars for an overhaul. It is sad for the fans, but like it or not the NFL is a bully to metropolitan areas, and if places like don't like playing ball, they move. The sad part for San Diego is corporations and outsiders would have been paying the taxes on the hotels, not the residents of San Diego. Same as Vegas. Other teams have done it but it's weird. What I think is even more weird is a team sort of moving TO a lame duck situation (kinda, sorta), like the Chargers moving TO a 30,000 seat stadium. THAT is weird. I tried to figure out how many events the Georgia Dome hosted last year, but it turned out to be strangely elusive.
