thebandit27
@spotrac With an extension nearing, #Bills CB Stephon Gilmore currently holds a calculated market value of $13.5M. Our look: http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/stephon-gilmore/market-value/ Wait this changes everything @andyshain New -> Stephon Gilmore (@UofSC star DB now with @buffalobills) will stump for @HillaryClinton with Alshon Jeffery at SC State and Columbia Yeah--I'm thinking it'll end up being something like 5 years, $57.5M, with $30M guaranteed. Here's my guess at the cap hits: 2016 - $8.5M ($6M gtd) 2017 - $9.5M ($6M gtd) 2018 - $11M ($6M gtd) 2019 - $13.5M ($6M gtd) 2020 - $15M ($6M gtd)
John from Riverside
Recall Darby talking about hitting the rookie wall around wk 10 ? Said it was very tough and he was exhausted. I think he was being very honest and realistic ouch, he should stick to you yoga and stay away from politics completely. So what does any one think would be the answer if we do not/ cannot pay him? Honest question. Because it IS in the realm of possibility isn't it ? McKelvin and a 1st rounder next year.

thebandit27
Very good, yes. Elite? not yet. Considering that most of the league plays with 3 corners on the field about 60-70% of the time, that's 96 corners that could be considered full-time players. IMO, elite means in the top 10%...is he one of the top 9 or 10 corners in the game? I actually think that, yes, he might be.

K-9
in press and man coverage. Conversely Sherman plays fantastic zone. Context possibly? Great point here, 3rd. IMO, only corners that can play either equally great are truly considered great corners. We tend to overrate guys that excel in man coverage, but if I'm a DC, I want the guy that does both because of the scheme flexibility it provides. Guys like Rod Woodson, Deion Sanders, Charles Woodson come to mind. If I was forced to choose one or the other though, I'd take the man coverage guy and hope I could teach him the finer points of zone play. GO BILLS!!! K, i don't know enough as to which is more favorable from a Coaches viewpoint. But i would guess Gilmore is a very good fit with Rex. As is Ronald Darby so far. Now if you could just get that safety situation sorted out... Go Bills !

From Rex's viewpoint, he is always gonna need his man coverage corners; his system is predicated on that. My only point is that guys who can do both equally well are what truly defines a great CB. As to the safeties, it's a shame AW and Graham didn't have time together as a tandem. Rex needs a pair that can finish each other's sentences out there. GO BILLS!!! Deranged Rhino
As you say, Darby is locked in, so his money is independent of what you pay Gilmore, who isn't a top 10 CB. Why pay him like one? I don't see that. He played OK. When the both played, Darby was better. Maybe he was carrying Gilmore. Because Gilmore is going to get paid and is (in my mind) an elite corner in this league. And, if Darby is as good as you seem to think, he's going to get paid like an elite CB too when his rookie deal is up. Getting two elite CBs for the price of one for the next three seasons -- while providing short term cap relief this year -- is a no brainer. Letting Gilmore walk would be a disaster. All of Darby's INTs and over half his pass deflections happened in the first quarter of the season when Gilmore was locking down his side of the field, there was a big drop off when Gilmore went off with his injury. To say otherwise is just factually inaccurate. To go further and say Darby carried Gilmore is just silly, not even Darby would say that. He's talked at length about how important Gilmore has been to his development. Yes, that's "the right thing to say" from Darby's perspective, but it's also the truth from everything that's been reported. Nope. Teams started throwing at Darby more as the season wore on...he allowed all 4 of his TDs in the final 6 games. They're both good...right now, Gilmore is a better cover guy--though Darby is a better form tackler (by a lot actually). There's no reason to debate who's #1 vs. #2 (though if you ask the team, it's obvious what they think based on how they talk). The point is that Gilmore is a top-flight CB in this league, and he'll be paid like one (whether it's here or elsewhere). Agreed.

Corey being the brains and Williams being the vocal leader and hitter He plays a bump and burnt style. no that is incorrect. He struggles with zone and tackling if one wanted to nit pick. and his tackling has improved. His anticipation and field position awareness needs some work
machine gun kelly
I don't want to keep moving on from our better players so let's hope his agent is reasonable with a contract that works for both sides. CB's of his skills don't grow on trees, and losing guys like Clements and Winfield jsut stunk, as we stay in the average mode, vs. our draft keeps improving the roster. If the draft just keeps replacing very good players, we'll never get to the championship. We have a year to watch this one play out. You would imagine Darby and Gillmore will play even better together next year.
