26CornerBlitz
@sn_nfl Tyrod Taylor is Rex Ryan's best Bills deal, even better than McCoy http://dlvr.it/CzXQ9V For Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills, getting the better end of the LeSean McCoy-Kiko Alonso-DeMarco Murray series of transactions was smart. Landing Tyrod Taylor to be their quarterback was even smarter. Ryan deserves more credit for that than he’s getting. Taylor deserves more credit for justifying Ryan’s faith than he’s getting. Nick the Greek
Was it not Roman who brought him in? He has been successful with read option types i.e. Kapernick.
Maddog69
It was reported at the time that Rex wanted Taylor. Rex said he even tried to trade for him when he was with the Jets.
UBBullsfan
I was going to ask how it is considered "Rex Ryan's" deal but then I remembered one of his coaching buddies gave him the scoop on Taylor. I'm not sure I trust Rex to have much roster control.

billstein22
Agreed. He is a productive, low cost option at the most important position on the field. I think it's also too soon to say we got the better end of the Shady deal (keep in mind his contract has a TON of guaranteed $$$). But, so far it looks heavily in our favor, and I'm glad we made the deal. Love seeing him in a Bills uniform.
NOVABillsFan
More mud to the water as to who wanted him. http://www.hokiesports.com/football/recaps/20151113aab.html “Rex [Ryan, Buffalo’s coach] had connections with the Baltimore Ravens and a couple of guys on our team, like Corey Graham [buffalo’s safety who spent two years with the Ravens], they had been around him and saw what he brought during practices. Everybody thought the sky was the limit. The arrow was pointing up on this guy.” Ryan actually tried to trade for Taylor when Ryan served as the coach of the New York Jets, according to this story - http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/Bills-add-another-QB-in-Tyrod-Taylor/eed71433-ad70-4c08-8959-a2e01e7b166b. He loved his athleticism, and for a lack of a better description, viewed him as a “poor man’s Russell Wilson.” Edited December 11, 2015 by NOVABillsFan

machine gun kelly
I am not in favor of Rex having even more control. Whaley has made many good deals and some misses. We need continuity in the front office. Keep this program together, and see what he can do in the next year.
Kirby Jackson
Imagine how bad this team would be without Tyrod? This year would have been one of the most frustrating in history. Before the year we all talked about how we need someone to "not screw it up" and win playing great defense. As it has turned out the Bills have desperately needed the offense and Tyrod to remain in contention. The record so far may not be too far off of what most projected but this team did not get here how any of us anticipated that they would.
jahbonas
The coach does NOT make the deal - he sure offers the GM input on players he has knowledge of - as do players on the team and assistant coaches etccc.. trades are done via the GM - this is Whaley's acquisition with a coach pushing it. I would not want to see the many other guys Rex would have acquired if allowed free reign that would not have worked out or worked within a cap system projected over the next few years - anyone really want Rex making deals while keeping track of cap impacts??? Rex is a people guy who shoots from the hip - he can help a GM - but in no way could be a GM

Agreed - and remember now all the local Buffalo press (who pretend to be football scouts rather than reporters asking informed sources )who thought Cassel was better or equal to him. Joe B, Paul Hamilton and others - you are reporters....go find sources (coaches and scouts) and report THEIR informed opinion.....your opinion means nothing

Never NEVER Give-up
ryan effectively addressed the qb position within a few months of joining the bills. whaley has yet to effectively address it. Whaley went out and got him at Rex's request. There was competition for him and to discredit Whaley's involvement is a show of ignorance. Nix released Fitz and brought EJ in. (Tuel & Thad Lewis were also here.) Once Whaley took over, he signed Orton and released Lewis & Tuel. Whaley also brought in the following for the coaches to see: Kevin Kolb, Matt Leinhart, Vince Young, Alex Tanney, Pat White, Dennis Dixon, Tarvaris Jackson, Kenny Guiton, Jordon Palmer, Matt Flynn, Matt Simms, Matt Cassel, Josh Johnson. He has done everything he could do at the QB position - he's brought in a pool of guys for the coaches to choose from (Marone & Rex). What Whaley hasn't had is the luxury of a #1 or #2 overall pick in a draft stocked with bona-fide QB's, so he's done the next best thing - go out and bring in as many as possible and let your talent evaluators (coaches) pick the ones they want to go with. That and his last 2 drafts (below) show he can pick quality football players. 2015: Darby - Miller - Karlos Williams - Steward - O'Leary - Dezmin Lewis (Only Lewis won't get a look-see duing the 2015 season) 2014: Watkins - Kouandjio - Preston Brown - Cockrell - Richardson - Randell Johnson - Henderson (Cockrell was cut in '15. Jury is still out on OL's Cyrus and Cyril, =though they seem to bring depth - quality as of yet unknown.) Whaley also traded for Jerry Hughes, McCoy and brought in Incognito and Harvin, If the Bills want to continue in the mediocrity of the last 15 years, they should do what they always do - blow it up and start over every 2-3 years! We need the continuity both Whaley & Rex can bring. The recent pot-stirring by Vic Carucci only heightens our collective anxiety. The Pegula's aren't fools - so that tells me they'll extend Whaley at the end of the season. LA Grant
I maintain that Rex has great GM instincts. But you wouldn't want to give him complete control. He and Whaley have balanced each other out for the most part. This past off-season was the best in years.
