What happens with Marquise Goodwin?

QB Bills

Recommended Posts

Let's just get the smart-ass response of "he gets injured" out of the way first.

Disclaimer: I'm a sucker for the blazing fast guys. I held out hope for Roscoe Parrish and TJ Graham longer than most so take this all with a grain of salt.

Having said that. I love watching this guy play and I think he needs to be used more. The separation he gets is not something I've ever seen from a Bills player. Yes he gets hurt a lot, but he's not a wimpy player. The guy goes into the middle and will take a hit to make a catch.

For those who have seen their share of Niners games, what role do you see him playing in Roman's offense? I can't recall if they had a guy like him before. Brandon Lloyd is fast, but not really the same kind of player. From everything Rex and Roman have said, it seems like they prefer size and power over the small, fast guys.

Watkins and Goodwin on the ends with Woods in the slot would scare defenses (if we had a QB, that is).

I like the guy too, and it would be nice to see him utilized more strategically. With a run-heavy offense, there is potentially the opportunity for some good play-action with Goodwin matched one-on-one, which is just about all you could ask for. The problem is getting him on the field, since right now he's the #4 WR.

We'd like to use him like John Brown in AZ. We had him on some nice bombs in his rookie year, but between injuries and poor QB play we didn't see to get things going with him and the deep ball. I hope he gets some looks this year and stays healthy.

This is kind of how I feel. I would play him about 10 snaps a game and throw him 2 deep balls a game. I don't care if everyone know why he is out there. He runs by everyone!! Throw them up and hope for completions or flags. He has a purpose but should not be counted on to do more than that.

I don't disagree, the problem is that unless he's doing something on special teams (returning kicks), it's tough to use a roster spot on a guy who you only use a few snaps a game on one of the three groups.

Thats where I sort of disagree. He has more use on gameday than Larry Dean for example. If he makes 10 big plays this year between catches or long flags he's been a big help.

My guy!!! He will play this year.

Roman had a similar guy in Bruce Ellington last year as a rookie. He is a smaller speedster. I believe he got hurt at some point last year and missed 3 games but was a 4th rd pick. 6 catches and 2 TDs. Could look at games to see how he was used... I *think* it was slot.

The Bills are not retaining Spiller. Assuming the McKelvin is going to be asked to be the #2 CB, then Goodwin has a good chance to be the team's #4 WR and #1 KR.

I like his chances to make the team, and a healthy Goodwin can win you a game. But he is not durable or versatile enough to catch the 45-55 balls that Hogan can and could never compete for #3.

Kick returner, deep balls and a few gadget plays is plenty to justify a spot. And as a mid round pick he's cheap.

Yup. This board has fallen in love with the idea of carrying 14 special teamers. But Id love some more wrs that stretch the field instead of tackle.

Hmm, I don't know how you got that from what I said, I was just referring to the value of limited roster spaces and how the 2nd-3rd-4th string guys really need to contribute in multiple ways to justify the roster spot. That's not always true, of course (see: Gay, Jordan), but I would certainly think that is usually true for a #4 WR.

That wast in reply to you directly. So it shouldn't make sense as a direct comment on your personal opinion. Many on this board think you have to carry a ton of specialists in order to function on special teams. It's nice to get double duty from some guys but at some point it's enough with gay, and Easley and hogan and boobie and graham and dean and.... If, for instance, easley walks for a better receiving threat or generally something that helps the offense that is starting in a hole without an established qb, I'll take that trade off is all. Guys like Easley, Dean, Sanborn, Gay, Schmidt, Carpenter and Thigpen were all active on gameday to play just special teams. That's why they were good last year. I am confident in saying that NO other team in the NFL dressed 7 guys just to play ST. You could easily cut that number to 5 (Dean and Gay) and have a place for guys that can do one thing well (Ie Goodwin). His impact will be greater than that of Larry Dean -agreed?

Bingo.

And that's ignoring things like hogan dressing over MW when we needed a red zone threat

And if spillers gone and Leo is cb2 Goodwin can contribute on ST too.
