If Marrone dresses his "kickoff specialist" in Denver....He is

Do you realize there's only been 6 kickoff tds? With the new rules (no wedges & kicking off from the 35), the kick return game is severely hampered. Again, I like doing what good teams so. Good teams don't waste a roster spot on a kickoff guy when we have a million dollar kicker.

And our red zone offense is one of the worst in the NFL. Mike Williams was known as being a good redzone target. Could dress him. And just because something never happened, doesn't mean it can't. We lost Spiller and Jackson in one game.

But why second guess Pinstripe Bowl game champion Marrone.

A team is only as good as its 53rd player right!

I don't think it's only about getting touchbacks, they are also saving carpenters leg and letting him focus on FG's. I wouldn't change a thing

Good point seeing how he kicks a crap load more FGs than XPs with this team. If the Bills could score in the red zone once in a while, Carpenter's groin would probably be in much better shape. Maybe that's the whole idea behind having Gay....Marrone knows if Carpenter had to kick four or five FGs, one, or on a good day two XPs and handle all the kickoffs, his leg woulda been shot by week eight. Carp woulda been the most underpaid player in the league.

Bite me. Only on this board can I go from homer to complainer.

We are wasting a historic defense because of crappy offense. And we have 2 kickers. Awesome.

Lol. And who has the Bills longest TD this year? Wouldn't that be Mike Williams 80 yarder against Houston? I know he's supposedly hurt right now, but there were other games he could've been an asset, mainly against KC. But we dressed our vaunted KO specialist instead. I'm definitely not a proponent of the extra kicker just as 31/32 NFL teams aren't. I always thought Carpenter did a pretty good job on kickoffs last year anyways. So far it has worked out in Marrone's favor, but there is a reason 31 other teams don't have kickoff specialists.

Denver certainly has had their issues at kicker this year. Life after Elam not so smooth. And I think Denver can afford to waste a spot a lot more than red zone blues Buffalo.

Denver may very well be seeing this as a game in which to get some less utilized players up to speed for their more challenging, upcoming games. Maybe kick the tires on some plays, etc. Let's hope they do, and this becomes a trap game.

paid some attention to news out of Denver and I do not get that impression at all. Think they see it as about as tough a game as Miami was. They barely beat them at home and see this as a similar team.

If the title of this thread had been "should we activate gay this week?", then the discussion would have been more productive.... because it is a legit question. Instead, this has turned into a Marrone-bashing fest.

There are enough things to bash Marrone on; having Gay take away from Joe Klopfenstein's spot on the active roster isn't one of them.

I may be in the minority but I'd much rather dress Jordan Gay than Larry Dean. At least he plays a role. With the Bills defense it's really important to avoid big plays on ST. In addition, it isn't easy to drive 80 yards on that group. I actually think that guys like Gay are the wave of the future. He's a specialist that fits the makeup of this team perfectly. He's coming of his best game of the year as well. I don't understand why people would rather have a 6th or 7th LB than a guy that will actually play an important role?

Deactivate Gay now. I'm not impressed with settling for all the touchbacks. Seems like the Bills have some above average gunners, especially Easley, and should be kicking high & shorter, pinning teams inside the 20.

How convenient for Marrone that MW is injured, as we all know he wouldn't see the field even if healthy.

So who should we be dressing to increase offensive production? Isn't field position an important element to the game? You seem to get something in your head and refuse to listen to reasonable arguments refuting it.

Does everyone believe Mike Williams is actually hurt? He seemed fine at midweek and was expecting to play, then this mysterious calf injury popped up, but he was nowhere to be found to talk about it. I'm thinking this is BS, that Marrone has just decided to shut this kid down. Why, heaven only knows. Or Marrone and Williams know but they're not talking. Why waste a draft pick to trade for a guy, then sit him most of the season?

If Gay wasn't going to kick and Williams was actually OK, I'd like to see him on the roster and on the field. He's a question mark so far, and hasn't been in enough games to show what he can do. My best guess is Marrone isn't happy with the way Williams talks to the media. Instead of making him a healthy scratch, which is bad enough, Williams sees Marrone hiding behind this phantom injury (in my view of things) just to piss Williams off a little bit more.

I agree with this post (see how easy that was instead of the uber annoying, 'this')

Going into the Denver game 4 of our 6 receivers are on the injury report. The two that are not are 1 catch all year Marquise Goodwin and special teamer Easley. If Williams is not actually hurt, then I would much rather see him in the lineup instead of Gay. Especially in Denver when Carp can easily kick touchbacks and we're going to probably need to air it out, a lot.

Why are so many assuming that without the extra kicker than mike Williams gets on the field? I don't know the real reason why he isn't playing but if the coaches want him on the field than Hogan, Goodwin or one of the extra TE's will be deactivated. No way the only way mike doesn't play is because we have an extra kicker.
