I realize it was into the wind, but it still doesn't make any sense to me. The Vikes get the ball at the 35 to start the drive, instead of making them drive the longer field. What's the deal? Anybody hear anything about this decision? EDIT: For clarity, I'm referring to the first squib kick, not the one at the end of the game. I think the Vikes made a tactical mistake. If they had not touched the ball, the clock cannot go down to zero. You want to have someone fall on it or get tackled immediately if they get a chance to field it, which is easier from short distance. Kicking off down the field gives opportunity to set up a return or concoct some music city miracle bs. Our 'kickoff specialist' had multiple kicks returned today. Also if you do kick it out, it gives them a chance to heave a Hail Mary and get a pi call. Putting the game in the hands of the refs to call or not call a phantom pi is NOT the position I want to be in there. I don't care how dangerous Cordarelle is. They stopped him earlier. How dumb is our special teams coach? Not only make a bad call following our first touchdown, but they got holding calls on just about every return. One holding call was on a play where McKelvin avoided the punt. On another punt we had two penalties. WTH. If I were the new owner, I'd dump just about every coach on this team. Starting with Marrone. The fish rots from the head down. I see Hackett doing the same thing calling the offensive plays. Just when we are starting to gash them for good runs, he abandons it and calls pass plays even though our line was collapsing all over the place and Orton was getting crushed.
