SHE said this less than a year ago: Bill de Blasio's wife opened up about falling in love with a man after years of identifying as a lesbian and their life as a “very conventional, unconventional couple” in a candid interview released Thursday. Chirlane McCray, 58, said her relationship with de Blasio was made possible “by putting aside the assumptions I had about the form and package my love would come in.” The interview, with Essence magazine, comes 34 years after McCray penned a groundbreaking 1979 essay for Essence entitled, “I Am a Lesbian,” about coming out as a gay black woman.

Why do people smoke cigarettes? They're bad for your health (we've known this for about 50+ years now), they make you stink. they force you to take your work breaks in inconvenient places, & the habit is expensive. Why do people do hard drugs? You could get arrested & go to jail, you could OD & die, and the habit is usually expensive. Why do some people drive their car and/or motorcycle at very high speeds on public highways? You could get arrested & go to jail. You could crash & die. Why do people drink alcohol in excessive amounts? You could get sick. With too much alcohol in a short period of time, you could actually die. The alcohol consumption could cause you to lose control of rational thoughts & actions, and you could do something illegal; you could become a danger to yourself or to others (DUI, accidents at work, etc.). Why do serial killers kill? Are they "born to do so?"

Why do people do ANY risky, dangerous, out of the norm, or looked-down-upon behavior? Are they making a choice to do those behaviors, or do they have no control? I have never understood why people would do all the stupid things I mention in the paragraph above.

This is fun.

Congrats for the worst post in forum history! People would rather listen to suggestions of trading Mario for Skelton over this ignorance. I chose to drink and I chose to be tolerant. I have many gay friends and they would not even be offended by your ignorance. They would just feel bad for you.

I have never chosen to be a heterosexual -it just kind of happened. I want to know when you made that decision? Did you pick your sexual orientation lie recruits pick colleges? Did you sit at a table with two hats one with a man and one with a woman and select that way?

Michael Sam's problem isn't that he's gay, it's that he's a tweener. He would be undersized as a 4-3 DE and may or may not have the quickness to transition to OLB. He reminds me a lot of Antonio Coleman actually. His 40 time and agility drill scores could either make or break him.

Good post. Corey Moore was the guy that came to my mind.

Pure hyperbole... wow. Is being homosexual based upon environment, genetics, a combination of the two, or what, because it is most certainly not a majority lifestyle. That's what I took from it. People looked down on it and worse for centuries in most places, and yet it still happened despite risking death, maiming, etc. Those are questions people will continue to ask because it is a mystery, not because everyone is homophobic. Please...

That takes a lot of guts to do what he did. Gotta respect him for that. As long as the guy can play on the field, who cares who he sleeps with off the field? The only person he has to wake up with is himself! As long as he has no problem with the person he sees in the mirror, who are we to judge? Once the wistle blows, he's a player just like any other player on the field, and what his preferences are off the field don't matter.

Play on Michael!! Somebody is going to draft him high anyway.

I admire him, and the entire Mizzou team for having his back. Glad to see so much positivity on this thread. I'm proud of my Buffalo-raised ilk! I wish the guy all the best, and look forward to the day when it's not even worth mentioning. Go Buffalo. Go Bills.

I'm doing this by an IPhone so I haven't read all 11 pages so if this has already been stated then understand why.

First off I must say that Michael Sam sure does have some guy! Wow! Secondly, after the initial shock wears off, if he has the projected talent that's being discussed then I would have no problem if Buffalo were to draft him. Admittedly I have no knowledge of any college players because I only watch the NFL but with that being said I believe that Buffalo would be one of the franchises that could accept Sam for who he is due to our lockerroom and fan base. Buffalo strikes me as the kind of organization and community that once you are one of their own then not only would you be accepted but the fans would be very protective of you as long as you produced I the field. Anyways that's my take on it. I only hope that this guy doesn't get tortured or mistreated just for being who he is.

Go Bills!

You took away a nuanced opinion of the role of genetics, environment and nurture in defining sexuality from John's litany of examples involving nothing more than personal choices which are harmful to society??? How is that possible?

Football Outsiders usually runs their "SackSEER" projection article right after the Combine, so we'll know then. K-9 is correct that it's based primarily on the 10-yard split and lateral quickness measurements. Hughes was at the top of their projection the year he entered the draft (I almost said the year he came out!). Based on everything I've read about Sam, he's not considered to be the elite athlete that Hughes is.

This is why I, too, harbor prejudices - against people who live in Jacksonville (which I assume was a choice of yours).

pity the announcer who has to say that is sam's first sack of the year..

How much does everyone want to wager that NE picks Michael Sam?

I honestly think NE would be a good fit. I hate Lord Grumbledore and that whole Patriot Way sh#tshow as much as anyone. But if there's any organization that can cut through all the noise and all the crap and keep a tight corporate lid on things, it's the Patriots.

Tim: I beg you, and anyone on here who is at all curious in the incidence and existence of homosexuality--to take a look at the American Psychological Association's various statements on Homosexuality, and the American Sociological Association's statement on same sex marriage. You can find a great deal of answers in social science research, and I would encourage anyone to rely on a sample size greater than your own limited experiences (as we say in the business, 'n>1').

I dunno, I thought it was a fair reasonable description of the main questions regarding the homosexual issue both politically and scientifically. What part did you take issue with?

Tim-

I liked your freshman bio take on homosexuality as choice a lot better the last time you trotted it out. This attempt was just flaccid.

I dunno, the part where you took a few half-formed and ill-defined scientific concepts and completely inverted them in support of your obvious political agenda?

Thanks, however, I read it all, and am familiar with the current social science trends. The problem, if you will allow, is in what we define as science, and what we define as social engineering labeled as science. I'm a big believer in neuroscience and neuropsychology as there's very little one can do to manipulate the data. In other words, one cannot "misinterpret" the datasets or correlations. The same cannot be said of the "light" science we can psychology. If your in the field please do not take offense, but let' face it, when psychologists enter the realm of social matters, the do NOT have a good track record.

Tim-

To be honest I don't come here to talk about gays. Just the Bills, frankly. But thanks. :)
