The Top 10 Coldest games in Bills history

For me its easily Bills vs Pats 12/28/08 when Brady was out for the year and the pats trotted out Cassel to an 11-5 record and a 13-0 victory over the bills in week 17.

Weather report for the game:

- Average temperature 21 degrees

-Lowest temperature: -3 degrees

-And the kicker: 29 MPH winds with 53 MPH sustained winds and gusts up to 73 MPH.

The most miserable football game Ive ever been a part of. The goal posts were twisted, the bills sucked, Matt Cassel even had a punt that rolled via wind to our one yard line...

Those really aren't that cold... Brutal yes... Maybe w/wind chill, but only 0 real temp? Proves Buffalo is rather warm and tempered a bit... One would think that actual temp would have been in the minus 10s or so... BUT it never gets that cold (much below zero) in BFLO.

The Green Bay came v. Giants in 2007, actual temp was in the minus 10's/20's. We were up in Baraboo that weekend and the temp was -28, actual temp. Unreal, I was starting my vehicle every couple of hours @ the hotel.

I have one that belongs on the list. 12/28/63 - AFL Divisional Playoff Game.

Bills hosted the Patsies at the Rock Pile. Afternoon game, temp at Kickoff was 20 with an 11 mph wind. Wind Chill Calc in use at that time give 2 degrees.

Even worse, Buffalo had been blasted by a snowstorm earlier in the week. They brought in helicopters and flamethrowers to clear the grass field, which was painted.

They sorta shoveled off the seats, but the bleachers (the whole open end of the stadium) you made your own seat out of the snow on the wooden boards that served as seats. My dad & I were in the bleachers, and it was a very uncomfortable day, not to mention the Bills were terrible, save for a 93 yard TD pass from Lamonica to Dubenion.

In these days of specialists, Cookie Gilchrist was the FG and place kicker and Daryle Lamonica was the punter for the Bills, and Gino Cappeletti kicked 4 FG's and caught four passes for 109 yards for the Pats.

That's the second appearance for Cincinnati...they also are the second coldest game ever played against the Chargers in the early 80s...freezer bowl I believe it was called, -9F...probably 3rd after this weekend's game in Green Bay...

Not a place you'd associate with that type of cold...I lived there for a year, don't remember it getting that cold

The lake shields us from cold cold temps in winter and prevents hot hot temps in summer...farther inland away from water its not uncommon to see -15 to -25 degree temps and 20-30 days of 90+ heat as nearby as Dansville, NY...

It's a double edged sword tho, as it also gives us our prodigious snowfall amounts...

Places like Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, etc get bone numbing cold, like -40 or -50 at times...ill take the snow

I was at the Raiders game. Remember all of the hilarious moments tailgating. Beers froze at the neck of the bottle in 8 minutes (so we drank them in 7). Trying to "cook" chile. Keeping things in the cooler, in the car that you didn't want to freeze.

The funniest thing I remember was standing next to another guy while we were taking a whiz. He suddenly says "s@&t". I said "what's wrong?". He said "I am wearing 6 inches of clothes and I only have 5 inches of dick".

Seeing as they are including away games I am surprised the game at Cleveland in 2007 wasn't on there. That game was BRUTAL

Ehhh.... Cleveland never really gets THAT cold. Been here since 2008 and this is the first time I've experienced temps consistently below 20 degrees (Jan/Feb 2009 possibly excepted), which what you'd need to crack the top 10 coldest games. Sure enough, profootball reference has Bills-Browns '07 game time temp at 31 degrees.

But other than temperature jeez that game was brutal with snow. 2 FG and then Moorman having to bat the ball out of bounds for a safety. Funny thing is that ESPN the Magazine had a Bing advertisement with a panoramic of Brownies stadium flush with snow. You can barely make out the Bills away jerseys, but it's from that game. Saved the ad; probably the only time I use Bing.

I was at the '93 Jets game and remember watching HBO's "This Week in the NFL" later that week and it opened the game's highlights with Marv and Jets coach Bruce Coslett talking at midfield before the game.

Marv: "It's brutal today, I don't think we'll have many people here."

Coslett: "I just looked out at your parking lot, it's packed!"

Marv: "These people are amazing..."

I also remember on Christmas Eve the Bills put out a call to come clear the stadium for $5/hour I believe and many showed up...and more then a few were not dressed for the weather. Seeing this, Marv went into the locker room and grabbed hats, gloves and other gear to give to the folks clearing the snow. In my view, Marv made the Hall of Fame on that day.

I was at #1 and 2. The Jets game felt colder though. I thought that day they stated it was -48 degrees at one point. Probably too many beers frozen by the time I made it back to the stands.

I learned a hard lesson after the Jets to wear hunting sox. I have to say it was fun and there were a couple of morons who took off their shirts and tried to get on camera.

Cincy v SD I believe

Did the Bills play the week before that game at Cincy? I thought that game was really cold also. Game ended on a bad call, no replay review. The replay clearly showed Bills receiver in but was called out. What else is new.

I remember the occasional cattle calls for snow shovelers at the stadium. Anyone shoveling would get to attend the game as an extra bonus.

Nice anecdotes.
