"If we build it, they will stay..."

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Buffalo_Bills_Stadium

theres too much going on downtown lately to completely back away from even the thought that this might come to realization. The latest "Buffalo Billion" plan by Cuomo (boy is he making a case for the White House or what???). The updated plan to demolish the Old Freight House and put up new condos and apartments along the Buffalo River. The plans for some of the old grain mills as Hotels, Restaurants, shops and zip lining. The Harbor Center that Pegula is investing millions into by adding Hotels, shops, restaurants.

Not that a $1.5B stadium is in the cards, but the county just forked over over $200M for the Ralph and that was a temporary 10 year fix. Imagine what another $250-$500M could do. Completely rebuild The Ralph to be one of the newer updated stadiums with all the fancy amenities that newer stadiums have. Or how about spending $700-$800M on a stadium downtown that's not as extravagant as the one designed. The Seahawks stadium was less than that in today's dollars.

Anyway, the Bills aren't leaving Buffalo. The cost is way to much to leave to be a viable business plan.

$1B for team

$1B for new stadium

$400M for lease buyout

$250-275B for relocation

Don't forget the millions that would be spent on all new equipment and facility items. We wouldn't be moving desks, chairs, computers, practice equipment with the team, they spend godly amounts on all that crap.

By the end of everything, the new owner would never....EVER... See a profit from the team after a move. Their children's grandchildren might be lucky enough to see something out of the deal. But a $3B+ nut is a tough nut to chew on.

Where Kelly, or anyone else in the area can keep the team here, at the Ralph. Continue to live off the county owned stadium for a whole before any thought about moving the team to a new stadium. And when I say a while, were talking like 10-20 years from when it's purchased.

Here's the story on the Buffalo Billions in case you missed it.

Don't think there's any way around not playing at least 2 end of season games in Toronto. No need for a dome if there's no December games in Buffalo. Gotta imagine no dome significantly drops the projected cost.

But with a dome it opens up more possibilities as a multipurpose facility. You can use it as a convention center from jan-aug for example

Jim Kelly,Golisano and Bon Jovi are all interested in buying the Bills, is there anybody else we should add to this list?

It's kind of ironic that this story popped up this very same week the Bills are playing in Toronto.

it pops up EVERY SINGLE YEAR the week before we play in Toronto. Next year will be the same.

And I'd like to add my name to the mix. Just like Jon Bon Jovi, I also would like to own an NFL franchise.

I thought the story has always been that the Bills will be sold to the highest bidder?

I believe if the team ends up in Ralph's estate the person who inherits will have pay a massive capital gain tax. If the team is sold to pay that tax it is required to go the highest bidder. That's how the Robbies lost the Dolphins. Although it is his right, Ralph is doing us a real disservice hanging on to the team until his death.

Actually, avoiding approximately $150m capital gains tax is the reason Ralph won't sell before he dies. Ralph's heirs get the tax basis of the value of the team ($700-800m estimated) the day he dies, instead of Ralph paying a 20% capital gains tax on his $25k investment if he sells before then. No way to avoid estate taxes.

At the rate we're going, even George Seifert will be included in the discussion of people wanting to buy the Bills.

If he leaves it all to his wife--no estate tax is paid by her.

Yep. And I'm assuming that Kelly or someone else convinced Ralph to leave the team to her so that there would be ample time to find a new owner.

The Bills aren't going anywhere, as long as George Seifert has some say....
