Maybe he suffered from a terminal illness and didn't want to suffer. Who knows. You certainly don't but once again, go ahead and speculate all you want. so if he was suffering from a terminal illness would he then be a weak loser as you put it earlier? About 2-3 years ago I gave up and haven't gone back since, just because I got sick of it (mostly because I got sick of arguing and getting mad at people that I actually liked a lot, and I'm a person who very rarely gets mad at anything, except the Bills and Sabres). It's not like concussions are new. is the rate escalating, or are people now paying attention? id guess that its a big mess of the concussions, the physical pain, the loss of the rush of playing, side effects from all kinds of painkillers - its amazing we dont see more when you start looking at what a lot of these guys really deal with. id guess a lot of them fade really far out of touch before the "incident" (whether a gun, overdose, or whatever) and word never makes it back to the media and teams. Seriously my problem is why these pampered players who enjoyed the best life has to offer, get so much sympathy from regular 8-5 joes. Because we watch them on a daily basis. Unfortunately there's an "out of sight out of mind" mentality when it comes to the soldiers you suggested. There is something to the notion of common humanity that is lost on a lot of people...especially on message boards...I suspect that not everyone here is as big a dick in the real world as they present themselves here... who, beside you, is saying that people who feel kind of sad about the Seau situation don't care about military vets, or the "8-5 joes"? In the Duerson case, he reportedly had (according to his wife) vision and word forming problems for a while prior to his suicide, yet there are no reports I could find about him seeing any specialist for this or any kind of workup being done. And before he killed himself he basically texted his family to ask them to send his brain to BU to see if CTE was the cause of him about to shoot himself. That's a bit strange. And the science behind the link from these pathology findings and suicide is not very solid yet. The folks at BU, who have never found a brain without CTE, have made this very dubious claim about Duerson: "The likelihood is that if he hadn't had the CTE, he wouldn't have developed those symptoms that he was experiencing at the end of his life and perhaps he wouldn't have been compelled to end his life." I am sincerely interested in learning more about that if you're saying the NFL is suppressing or disregarding medical information. Just based on my current level of knowledge about the NFL and the steps they've taken to prevent injury, they seem pretty reasonable to me. But I would feel differently if there are feasible suggestions that have been made and the NFL has not taken action, because then we're really getting into the area of liability. The NFL clearly has more resources that most organizations to truly make strides in this area, so if they are truly doing what you said, that will really change my view of them. I will get back to you when I have a bit more time to find something...but keep in mind, the NFL has been accused of paying doctors to come to the conclusions that are advantageous to the league, as opposed to the players safety. I pretty much took a break from and gave up on all politics at that time, and havent been back to that either -- which was another major reason that I didn't go back to the PPP board. I wasn't following the stories closely. I got sick of both sides of the aisle being disingenuous azzholes, I got sick of the media being disingenuous azzholes, I got sick of the ill-spirited and ill-informed people arguing about it who were just as bad, including myself. I was more amazed that a NFL player who lived the dream gets so much sympathy here. Concussions? Is Kazoo pointing a gun at his head right now? Now I don't know all the circumstances that's for sure, but it would have to be something really out there to change my mind.
