  1. Well, now that the Browns are on the hook for $16M in 2017, they should restructure him to a one year deal for $1M with a $15M signing bonus. Then they can trade him to Denver for another 2nd rounder. Denver would be have a $1M cap hit for their starting or backup quarterback.
  2. http://overthecap.com/2017-compensatory-draft-picks-update-5102016/ Buffalo: They were very mindful in signing multiple UFAs at low enough levels that should not meet the minimum qualifying APY. The one exception is Zach Brown. If he is cut, the Bills would be eligible for a 7th for Ron Brooks. It's been apparent for about 2 years now that the front office is actually paying attention to this stuff - for the first time in a long time.
  3. Let's go make some noise... So when the Colts audible... Five yard penalty
  4. Fluellen release makes some sense. As a vested vet, his salary would have been guaranteed had he been on the active roster after Saturday. GUARANTEED SALARY FOR VESTED VETERANSAny vested veteran (at least 4 years of service time) who is on the team’s 53-man roster for the first game of the season is entitled to termination pay (if he’s never received termination pay before), which means that his base salary is essentially guaranteed for the year. This is why you will see teams releasing marginal veteran players prior to week 1 and then immediately re-signing them early the following week. There is also an in-season termination pay that applies to vested veterans signed during the season, which essentially guarantees the player 25% of the salary they would have received if not for being released (again, if they haven’t already received termination pay). http://russellstreetreport.com/2015/08/17/baltimore-ravens-salary-cap/ramificaitons-cutdown-days-rule-51/
  5. 2015 contract details Manuel - 1.2M - guaranteed Cassel - 4.65M - includes 500K roster bonus Taylor (as starter) - 3.15M - assuming playoff birth Taylor (as backup) - 1.3M Simms - 585K 2016 contract details Manuel - 1.6M - guaranteed Taylor (as starter) - 4.13M - assuming playoff birth Taylor (as package qb) - ~2.3M Taylor (as backup) - 1.3M 2017 contract details Taylor (as starter in either 2015 or 2016) - UFA Taylor (as backup in 2015 and 2016 and starter in 2017) - 1.2M Tough decisions for the front office. Should TT's contract affect the decision as to how much he plays? In Kapernick's rookie year GR limited him to about 8 plays per game. I am a big EJ fan, but I think TT has earned the job. So the nod should go to him with Manuel as the #2 and Simms as the #3. The 4M savings from using Simms instead of Cassel can be used to extend Incognito or to help extend other players such as Darius. #3 QBs rarely play. When they do, it rarely changes the outcome of the game. We would likely be the first team in NFL history to have a 4.65M #3 QB. Those resources are better spent elsewhere. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/tyrod-taylor/ http://www.buffalorumblings.com/bills-news-notes/2015/3/18/8236345/tyrod-taylor-contract-details-buffalo-bills-qb-nfl-free-agency-2015
  6. Eric Wood was captain in 2013 and again in 2014. The image displayed was from July 2014. At that time he had only been captain one year in a row. Hence, only one star is colored in gold. Had the picture been from mid-season 2014 he would have had 2 stars filled in.
  7. So far we have a net loss in qualified free agents. I wonder it that will yield compensatory picks next year. I don't think Ingocnito counts as he was signed outside the FA window. Also, I understand that players need to be UFA to qualify. So Clay would not count whether the transition tag remains or if he is cut. So looks like we're in line for extra 6th and/or 7th round pick next year.
  8. Nice Limerick K-9. We will stop the run We will sack the quarterback Defense will prevail
  9. The right tactic could have been to intentionally hold the defenders coming in to touch the QB down, therefor running extra time off the clock. Whether the 10 yard penalty was accepted or not, they would have then been able to kneel down normally or even do the same play again. Otherwise, there was about an 8 second difference and they would have had to punt. Also, coach Marrone said they were planning on throwing a pass out of bounds on 4th down (assuming only 3 or 4 seconds left). The intentional holding tactic would have been ironic, because Baltimore used the same tactic in the Superbowl win on the intentional safety play. They were able to run off 8 seconds or so. It was very obvious, but holding was not called on that play. For the Bills, the tactics could have been a touch better, but how it played out worked fine.
  10. NFL Network, Whiparound coverage, 8:00pm "Preseason Games" - Whiparound coverage of the following LIVE Preseason Games: Buccaneers vs. Patriots, Vikings vs. Bills, 49ers vs. Chiefs and Raiders vs. Saints. http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/networkschedule
  11. + Moats. He seemed to be in many plays on both defense and special teams + Morrison. Seemed solid to me. + Brooks. Another solid outing + Kyle + Marcell - Sheppard. Where has he been this pre-season? I'm expecting a MLB in a 4-3 to be in most plays. Do they take him out for nickle package or something? - Merriman. He did make one nice play to beat a block from their backup TE. Otherwise, it seemed like he was not motivated to play too hard. - Chandler. Missed on a couple blocks. - Spiller / OL. A lot of bouncing around, but no yards on limitted carries.
  12. Brad Smith contributes to the team. With 46 players now active on gameday and no more 3rd QB exemption, I'd rather have Brad Smith active than a 3rd quarterback who doesn't contribute.
  13. 2012 Giants - Pierre Paul, Justin Tuck, Osi all had double digit sacks in the past.
  14. I consider Green Bay a pretty decent 3-4 defense. Here are their tackle #'s after 6 weeks. RILB Desmond Bishop 57 46 FS Morgan Burnett 47 33 RCB Sam Shields 23 21 LILB A.J. Hawk 28 18 RCB Tramon Williams 19 17 LCB Charles Woodson 22 17 SS Charlie Peprah 26 16 ROLB Erik Walden 19 13 LCB Jarrett Bush 13 11 LOLB Clay Matthews 16 11
  15. 2nd rounders seem to be the sweet spot of the draft. There are easy to sign and show up to camp on time. They have cap-friendly contracts. You avoid handing $20 million to a 20 year-old kid who may lose or not have hunger to be great. You have money leftover to sign your own FAs as well as other proven FAs. The bottom line is the draft is a bit of a crapshoop, and the 1st round is not excluded. I like the way NE manages their draft picks.
  16. I'm sure the Saints are wishing they had picked up the phone and made an offer for Lynch. As it turned out, they'd likely still be alive in the playoffs.
  17. If you prorate Fitz's numbers for a 16-game season (based on the two games he did not start)..... 3,876 yards 44/16 TDs/INTs 102.00 rating. 464 rushing yards Seriously! Those are MVP numbers. Great start Ryan! Keep it going!
  18. He's got quickness for sure. And he can run, catch, and throw. But his downfield blocking ability is a bit of an unknown. I assume he's fair or poor with this aspect of the game. Perhaps this is one reason why he has not been on the field more. For a #3 WR, would you rather have an exceptionally good blocker with good hands or an exceptionally quick reciever?
  19. The picks obtained in the Peters trade turned into Wood and helped us trade up for Levitre. Plus the Bills saved about $8M in cash per year which turned into Owens and whatever his replacement will be. So I'm OK with the trade, even though it means we need to find a LT again.
  20. I agree mostly with the analysis. Interesting that the best pick was Nate Clements, who we drafted after trading down! I think Kenyana Walker (TB) was picked with our original pick. If there is a trade partner, I'd always try to trade up/down into spots 20-50. I think those picks offer the best players at the most reasonable and easy to sign rookie contracts. The high first round picks are overpaid and sometimes difficult to sign. The 3rd/4th round picks are prospects that generally don't develop into starters. I'd use 5/6/7 for special teamers and prospects. Last year, NE was masterful at stocking up on these picks.
  21. Idiotic, yes. But since the Superbowl is in Miami and the players will be there about one week early anyway, it means the pro bowlers would need show up 1 day earlier for an appearance or maybe to watch the game from the sideline. For better or worse, the whole SB week is one big hypefest.
  22. Please, this is getting old. Mike Willams (a linman) was drafted instead of McKinnie. Mabin (a defensive lineman) was drafted instead of Oher. Peters was traded for picks, one of which was used on Wood. Another helping to trade up for Levitre. It's not like they ignored the lines with respect to the players mentioned in the post. Also, Peters and Williams were the players "shunned". You're not suggesting that the Bills should have kept those two around are you?
  23. Draft a franchise quartback if one is there. They don't come along too often. Otherwise LB and OL are the biggest holes to fill. I'd prefer LB in the draft and OL in FA.
