24 HRs Later Relooking At The Loss To HOU
Ned Flanders replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
I hate to throw the term "must win" around in week six, but this is as close as it gets next Monday night. -
Have you ever quit following a sports team?

I follow SU hoops, but like you, not as much as I once did, especially in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s during the Big East salad days. I never missed an SU game on TV during that time and, living in the DC area, always went to the SU-Georgetown game. Last year, when SU played GT here in DC, I didn't know of it until the morning of the game...thought of going for about three minutes, and ended up passing. During the Big East glory years, I would have had tickets the minute they went on sale. There's a great ESPN 30 for 30 called "Requiem for the Big East," great show, check it out if you already haven't. -
This is the correct answer...Josh was ready to come in. They should have burned a timeout rather than waste a play in the red zone.

Frank Fritz-American Pickers - RIP

Use to really like the show...seems in recent years, Mike and Frank, who had been ill, had a parting of the ways, sorta like a rock band. Didn't mind Robbie out picking, but the show lost a lot of the dynamic when they paired him with Danielle, IMHO. Use to watch AP along with Pawn Stars, but when that cast became the focus of the show, it went down hill fast, especially after the Old Man died. -
Eagle and Davis are two of the best. Glad they're doing the Bills game.

Saw him once in Atlanta about 25 years ago being interviewed in a sports bar...while sitting, his knees came up to his shoulders. A massive human being.

The whole scenario was a perfect storm of ineptitude consisting of the owner, local and state government. Just five years ago, Oakland had the Raiders, Warriors, and A's. Now, they're left with nothing. George Plimpton, in the excellent Ken Burns' Baseball series, said of the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn, that a baseball team is more vital to the well being of a city than its orchestra or even its churches. So true.

The whole NHL is becoming unwatchable to me. It was such a beautiful, clean, aesthetic game but now with the advertisements on the boards, ice, jerseys, and helmets, it's hard to watch. The athleticism and talent is still world-class, but take a look at a game from the 80s and you'll see the difference. In the not too distant future, the NHL will look like the gawd-awful European leagues. Still follow the Sabres but can't recall when I've sat an watched an entire game. -
Thank you. I'm 66 but hope to remain among the vertical for a little while longer...

Some TBD HOFers there.

Agree. I was watching as some of the early games we're coming down the stretch yesterday and I thought the announcer was going to have a seizure (would hate to have heard him announce the Hindenburg disaster). Just say where you're going and the let the game announcers take over.

I'm about half way through "The Price: What It Takes to Win in College Football's Era of Chaos." Very good book and as a fan of college football, I weep for its future. NIL, transfer portal, conference realignment...it's all in there. Very eye opening and highly recommended. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0063345250?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

A Few Thoughts about the Cardinals Game, in no particular order
Ned Flanders replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Looked like a clear block in the back at about the Cards 25 yard line... -
Rochester was a great place to grow up in the 1960s and 70s. I grew up in the Irish/Italian enclave of Charlotte...didn't know anyone who wasn't Catholic until high school. While the economy is still pretty good, thanks to the adjustments after Kodak, Xerox, B&L, et. al. manufacturing pretty much dried up, crime is now the number one issue. It's a shame what a once great city has become. Further discussion on this is probably best left to the politics board.

So sorry for your loss...our pets are family.
