Shakir, Benford, Cook and Bernard: Who Gets a Contract Extension?
Saint Doug replied to NoName's topic in The Stadium Wall
The only impact player on this list is Benford. I get that these other players are decent, but if you play them all $10-15M, we’ll have no room for true game breakers. I’d rather pay for elite and non-elite than a bunch of average players. -
Jim Monos can be coach GMs like the best of us, but there’s a reason he is now an “analyst”. That said, he said many things everyone has already been saying out loud. Their selections in the 1st and 2nd, where you have a better chance of landing an elite player, are lacking. Most are reaches based on need (“the last player we had a 1st round grade on”). They need to do better. And McD is who McD is. We need to accept this. I wouldn’t pay a RB $15M who can barely get over 1,000 yards either.

Wish him the best of luck. -
Because he’s a dick. That’s why.

Superbowl Game Thread - Chiefs vs Eagles

Question for those who know more than me. Is the Philly D playing mostly man coverage? -
Love it.

This is kind of bittersweet. No one deserved it more than Josh, but I know he would trade it in a second to be playing this weekend.

Bills Hire Ryan Nielsen Senior Defensive Assistant.
Saint Doug replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
The most important question hasn’t been asked yet: how did this guy’s defenses do against the Chiefs? -
Unfortunately voting occurred after the game, but the KC game just highlighted what Josh means to this team. Outside of Josh, we have few, if any, high impact players. Maybe Cook, but beyond him…nothing.

Gonzo Mock Draft Version 3.0 Final Version( Starts on Page 7)
Saint Doug replied to gonzo1105's topic in The Stadium Wall
As soon as I read undersized, it was an immediate no. This may not have been a problem in college, but will be a problem in the a NFL. Plus, DB is a bigger need. -
Probably was a much different era. Back then, draft picks really were supposed to develop on the bench, some for as long as over 3-4 years. In the salary cap era, many draft picks are expected to start on day 1. Draft picks are viewed with much more value now than then.

Is McD actually compensating for Beane?
Saint Doug replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would love for people to run the numbers for postseason only. With Josh as QB, what players and coaches do in the regular season doesn’t really matter. How do they respond in the game of their lives? -
Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Saint Doug replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Defensive is a much larger need. We only have 1 CB, we have a handful of backup safeties, linebacker is not a need, our defensive line is either too old, not skilled enough, or too small. In fact, our defense needs a complete overhaul. -
Not sure if this has been posted, but just another piece of evidence McD is way over his head compared to Reid: https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs-brilliantly-copied-play-afc-rival-burn-bills-for-two-huge-touchdowns#:~:text=The play is a simple,on the Chiefs' opening drive.

The bad part is that firing McD wouldn’t fix the problems. We have spent the last 5 years drafting players with a very specific skill set and physique. Maybe the national media was right, we are too small. Everyone except Josh. If we fired McD to get a different DC or even fired Babich, we would need to overhaul the players on the D side to fit the new scheme. That may be worse than running it back.

good comments from Bills players in this new Athletic piece
Saint Doug replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
If this first post is TLDR, they’re basically saying they go out-coached. -
I’m fine with the loss. Call me a negative Nancy, but I never expected them to make the Super Bowl. As a whole, nothing had really changed player or coaching wise. And our biggest rival, who we are 0-3 against in the playoffs, didn’t change. In fact, unless there are fundamental changes, the same thing will happen next year. Allen will play lights out (as he always does) and our bend, but don’t break defense will break. This defensive philosophy is fine against rookie QBs and the average starting QB, but it doesn’t work against elite offenses. It just leads to a tired defense and then we break. And this is why we saw our offense suddenly become a ground game first offense in the playoffs. To keep the opposing QB off the field.
-
This is how McD’s defense is formed. These players were specifically drafted for this system and would likely suffer greatly in a different one. They bend, until they break. So, unless McD is going to fundamentally change the defense we run, we won’t be getting any of the big bodied guys people want.
-
There’s only one coach I would even consider replacing McD: Hoodie. He’s the only coach that can go head to head with Reid.
-
He can walk. Players who come up big in big games are the ones that deserve large contracts.
-
I hope so too. He’s clutch.

In some ways, this is worse than the drought in my opinion
Saint Doug replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
To me, this is not only worse than the drought, but this 0-4 against the Chiefs is worse than our 0-4 Super Bowl record. Allen is much better than Kelly was, yet here we are wasting him away. -
I really wish we could’ve picked up the ex-bengals DC, but he’s employed by Indy now. He knows how to beat KC. Our guy is 0-4.
