Nah, he was a comedian at the time, trying to be funny. Just a couple jokes that went bad.

universal basic income question
keepthefaith replied to westerndecline's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm all for efficiency and cost reduction in government. If UBI were put into place, it would make it even easier for leftist politicians to run on a platform of "giving people more" through UBI increases and many voters would take the bait. Before you know it we'd be in worse shape than we are now. We need term limits on benefits for the able bodied and able mined and we need to reduce SS/Medicaid/medicare spending or fund them better without further burdening employers. We also need to cut discretionary spending. Artificially raising wages leads to more unemployment and thus more entitlement costs. Chicago has voted in a rising minimum wage and yesterday a friend of mine ordered 2 beers via room service at a hotel and the beer was delivered by a robot. -
Under negatives I don't know how you could omit his horrible public speaking skills. The GM is a significant face of a franchise. You have to be at least average on camera when speaking publicly. He was obviously very uncomfortable doing this and without winning big, the total lack of confidence he projected causes most to doubt him. I'm sure Doug is a very nice guy and being effective on camera with an audience is not easy, but again you have to be at least somewhat competent in that role IMO.

San Francisco is terrible

This thing stinks to high heaven. Is it a stretch that the prosecution didn't want him guilty and made a very weak effort? -

Who would destroy the Bills in the playoffs?

From that list, the Jags and Chargers would put the biggest hurt on the Bills. -

Is anyone here really a Tyrod fan?
keepthefaith replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not confident in NP, I've simply pointed out that it's way too soon to tell. You might have a crystal though so maybe your view is much better than that of the rest of us. Still a net positive IMO that he played. Taylor earned the bench and he and the team are better for it now. The Charger experience will pay off beginning last week. -

Just as ludicrous as the declaration that NP will never be as good as TT. -

Most of us watching the game saw the Chargers demolishing the Bills at the line of scrimmage. Sure had TT started the game it would very likely have been much closer but would his presence been enough to overcome the rest of the team getting its butt kicked? Doubtful. I really don't understand at all the criticism of McD on the decision to start NP. Frankly I think he's looking pretty darned wise right now. TT certainly earned his spot on the bench and in doing so the Bills have: A. The same record they likely would otherwise have B. Got TT's attention for sure which might now make him a better player going forward C. Got a brief look at NP which certainly will lead to him learning and working harder at his craft Unlike TT who has played enough in his career now to be judged, NP is at the very beginning of his career and none of us can predict how good a QB he may or may not become. Hindsight at the end of the season will provide a broader view than it does now. -
Bills Chiefs postgame thread

It's not just the play calling. TT still playing it overly safe. KC offense was awful today letting Bills offense off the hook. -
Here's our problem: Draft Rounds 1-3
keepthefaith replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is truth in that. The constant churn of players because they don't buy-in/fit the "new" system continually pushes the chance for success into the future. -
Is the media the problem here?
keepthefaith replied to freeagentqb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The media can be blamed in part for fueling the giant weekly swings in opinion about this team. If from week to week you read the articles and listen to media talk the Bills go from great to sucking in a matter of days. Very little of what is written includes analysis of substance. -
Franken has to be given some slack. He's a comedian doing funny stuff which isn't always funny but that's the line comedian's walk. He's just guilty of some poorly executed jokes.

Yay for those in the media that judge McD's decision last week through the lense of hindsight and without the benefit of evaluating players day in and day out all year.
-
I'm sure I'm in the vast minority here but I think coach McD is making good decisions. Good decision to start Peterman after some very shaky play from Tyrod. Good decision to get Peterman out of there after first half last week. Good decision to put Tyrod back at the helm.....for now. The Bills weren't winning that game last week with either QB. They were outplayed by a better team of players. The coaching staff more than ever now has Tyrod's attention after benching him and Peterman knows he's really got to go back to work. That and the offensive line and defense have a lot to prove after some awful performances. The entire team has a ton of motivation to play better this week.

Peterman was historically bad on Sunday
keepthefaith replied to LA Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Starting Peterman is going to turn out fine. For Nate it will certainly raise his preparation level and he'll learn from it. For Tyrod the benching got his attention and he'll be a more determined player for whatever minutes he plays for Buffalo the rest of the year. That and the offensive line was often exposed for how bad they are. The Bills weren't winning that game no matter who played QB Sunday. The Chargers most definitely are a more talented team. -
Who starts next week: Taylor or Peterman?
keepthefaith replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is zero chance of Peterman starting this week unless Tyrod is hurt. It's better for the team and for Nate that he not play this week. -
Who starts next week: Taylor or Peterman?
keepthefaith replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod's gonna start. Peterman will need more than a week of practice to be ready for another start after what happened yesterday. It'll be interesting to see how Tyrod responds after the benching. He may be more determined and more prepared to approach the game in the manner the coaches want him to. -
McD ready to have a mental break down???
keepthefaith replied to Jobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just like rookie players, the GM and head coach are NFL rookies at their positions. -

keepthefaith replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taylor. The Bills weren't winning today with either QB and the poor pass blocking of the offensive line. Let Peterman go back to school for at least a couple weeks. He's got a lot of good football ahead of him.
