Kaepernick and the National Anthem
keepthefaith replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, I'm hearing that white players around the league are considering their own anthem protest which will entail holding open books in a reading position on the sidelines. This is in protest of the low high school graduation rate of African American males. -

Emergency Team Meeting - Regarding Trump comments?
keepthefaith replied to boater's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yes Trump poured gas on the remnants of the fire and like so many other petty things he shouldn't even weigh in on it. However if he's gonna weigh in, why not simply invite a group of people who are in the mood to kneel to the white house and try to better understand their motivation? This whole thing is counter productive. The protests and many of the reactions to it. What's next might be a team winning an ESPY award for the most stylistic protest. Right now Dallas looks like they're headed for at least a nomination. -

Someone should point out to Eric Reid that Alton Sterling DID have a gun, that the American Flag and anthem are not symbols of the police and that Trump did not refer to whoever "us" is with slurs nor did he praise the Neo-Nazi's. This is why players like him have so little support in what they're doing. They attempt to make their argument in large part with fiction. You won't change hearts and minds with that. -
Emergency Team Meeting - Regarding Trump comments?
keepthefaith replied to boater's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
First I think we have to define racist. To me a person has to have a consistent pattern of expressing racially biased feelings or beliefs or acting upon those feelings. For me that excludes people who occasionally tell a racially insensitive joke or make an occasional statement that of the same. For me It also excludes people who might from time to time act differently toward one race than they would another. I need to see/hear a pattern before I label anyone a racist. The bar for many, especially in the media and public eye seems to be much lower. A couple comments in poor taste here or there in public and you can be labeled a racist very quickly even if you have a long term track record otherwise. It is impossible IMO for anyone to not view occasional situations in life through the prism of race. Racists to me are only those that do it frequently and then consistently act/speak upon it and also those that consistently view acts upon themselves as racially motivated when they could very well be otherwise. -

The players participating in the protests are really making fools of themselves as they've chosen about the worst form of demonstration that they could (showing disrespect for the country, flag and anthem) and I've yet to hear one articulate explanation from CK or any of the other players defining what they are protesting and what they feel should be done. For sure if you put 10 of these protestors in separate rooms and asked them all individually what is their point in doing this, you'll get 10 different answers. The owners would be quite justified in telling the players to take their protests out of the workplace and to do so on their own time and away from the "office". That should have done last year long before Trump threw gas on the fire. -
This "system" should be scrapped. When you really get down into the nitty gritty of all the regulation that surrounds health insurance and health care delivery, the state line limitations, various government entities and departments, government programs and lawyers - the whole mess is truly a cluster you know what. More and more I feel that we should make it illegal for employers to provide health insurance but legal to provide contributions to health savings accounts and let every person insure and fund their own care on their own. Only then will more of the population make maintaining their own health and managing the expense to do so a higher priority. He's desperate to keep his "signature legislation" in place. Obama's entire presidency will be wiped out in a couple years.

I don't know the details of the latest Republican plan but I doubt it will have a significant impact on insurance cost. The ACA was not designed to help people who already had private insurance. The intent was to deliver a benefit to more lower income people, to subsidize insurance to another group of people, to grind the crap out of those providers that must accept Medicaid and Medicare and to spend less on the end of life for old people. Private insurance rates have been burdened by a lot of this as reimbursements to medical providers have to be higher for the privately insured so that the government and insurers can pay less for medicaid/medicate/Obamacare policies. Case in point, a local hospital which might collect 40% of "list price" for a service from a high quality insurance company often only collects 5% from Medicaid for the same service delivered. Doctor groups in this area are sending people with Medicaid, Medicare or other crappy insurance to hospitals for tests and procedures that they otherwise perform in their office for patients with "good insurance". It's a totally !@#$ed up system that pays significantly discriminatory rates based upon who is paying. Some (private insurance) have to pay more so some (government or Obamacare insurance) can pay less. It's a hidden tax on private insurance. Obamacare has so many other dumb aspects that restrict competition and choice. For example: 1. Only "qualified plan recipients" can have a Health Savings Account. That should be available to everyone. 2. Mandating coverage for things like mental health, maternity care and other what should be "optional" coverages raises cost of basic plans. 3. Not being able to change carriers at any time unless you have a "qualifying event" means you only have brief windows in which to change coverage. 4. Small businesses in this state (IL) with under 20 employees are rated on their individual demographics while over 20 employees are rated on the larger pool of people meaning lower rates for those often. Larger companies get better rates as carriers compete more for their business. 5. Since insurance is restricted to within the state, carriers have a protected market and set rates in lockstep with each other. (Fedex/UPS model). 6. Employers pick the plans and carriers to be offered to employees meaning there aren't many choices of coverage for many people and companies have to choose from "government approved" plans. Obamacare mandate made this worse. If you want to pay less in premium and choose a higher deductible as your HSA account grows you can't do it. 7. Obamacare coverage level mandates eliminated many choices that were available before. We have fewer choices of products and carriers than we had 10 years ago. 8. Obamacare does not allow for people to be rated on their own health. No incentive to take better care of yourself. 9. Obamacare provided subsidies to states for those buying through exchanges but only for a few years. Now rates through the state exchange are astronomical and fewer people are buying it. In this state nobody pays more for insurance than small businesses or the few individuals using the exchange who don't get a subsidy.

More than 70% of counties in the U.S. now have only 1 Obamacare insurance provider. That's not so good for choice and competition. We just got our 2018 company health insurance renewal rates. Same Blue Cross coverage as 2017 will increase next year by 18%. That's on top of every other annual increase of similar or greater amounts that we've had for nearly all of the last 7 years or so. We are looking at rates nearly triple what they were before the ACA. My personal plan next year, family of 5 healthy people will have an annual premium of $27,000 plus a $5,500 family annual deductible for all services. So we pay $32,500 next year before we see any benefit. None of the other major carriers are materially less expensive for the same coverage. It's the Fedex/UPS model. All charge the same, but you can pick your favorite carrier logo. These are real number folks. Yup, Obamacare is working quite well.

Tell you what would give the industry a boost.... Give people the option to pay double their electric bill and apply the overage to the higher cost per kWh to wind/solar production. No need for the government to get in between renewable energy production and the will of the people. -

People really need to get off Clay's back. He's rusty, OK? He hasn't had that many balls thrown to him in a game in years. -

I for one am cheering hard for TT to have his best season. He's got a fresh start with new coaches and has had another off-season to have worked on his trade. Best scenario for the Bills is for him to have a breakout year and not have to be thinking franchise QB going into next year's draft. No doubt he has to improve but I for one don't believe that people are forever pigeon holed by their past shortcomings. Tyrod to me is one of the most likable Bills in years and one who seems to be liked and respected a lot by his teammates and one that seems to work hard at getting better. No doubt the bottom line for a QB is winning, but this is a guy that everyone should be get behind right now. A guy you want to cheer for. Preseason means squat. Let's see what his off-season of work and a new coaching staff can now do over the course of a season.
