To a point, yes. But there is value in having a presence in Germany. It’s part of what keeps the Russians from meddling in eastern NATO states. There’s also value to keeping naval bases in places like Cuba and Japan and Bahrain. Look at what’s going on in the South China Sea, for example.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with you that history may judge this better than we now think. The departure looked and was awful. But it was always going to be awful for a variety of reasons. Biden had the courage to take the hit for it. And, at bottom, he's the one who ended this war. So good for him.

He was in the game pretty late yesterday for someone who is supposed to be safe. And I’ll stand by my belief that McKenzie is in trouble. Can’t undermine the coach without consequence. Maybe they worked it out already, maybe they didn’t. And if they didn’t, there’s an easy way to address that issue.
