I think his feature on McCarthy has something to do with the Packers being on Sunday Night Football this week. Also, there’s this tidbit in that feature: “And they’ve found how the smart offensive teams—the Rams, the Niners, even the Bills—are using varieties of motion speeds, and different snap-points, and frustrating defenses.“

Back when I was a kid in Buffalo (late 1960s and early 70s), my father would take me to Stockman’s Bar in Swormsville and we’d watch home games on a snowy, fuzzy picture on Channel 12 out of Erie, PA. I still remember Monte Ledbetter getting blasted after a catch and seeing him down, laying in the “snow”. If it was a big game, like the first Monday nighter in 73, we’d drive almost to Syracuse and get a motel room and watch it on the Syracuse station. Those are really special memories especially since my Dad passed in 1975. He went all out when it came to the Bills.

My favorite. Alternately dark and humorous, and elegant and beautifully orchestrated.

I went to two AFC Championship games and a couple wild card games. All wins. That Jaguars game was a nightmare. I still see Natrone Means running by my window giving me the finger.

If you’re old, there are books about/by OJ (one of my favorites is “Education of a Rich Rookie” with stories of old time Bills players and OJ’s Most Memorable Games by Jim Baker), Chuck Knox, Smerlas, Eddie Abramowski, Tasker, Cookie, Dobler, “Talking Proud” (about the 1980 season), “More Than A Ring” about Don Beebe. I have all these and enjoyed them all. Ron McDole has a new one out that I have on my list to read. If you are a fan of 1960s Green Bay Packers, “Instant Replay” by Jerry Kramer is a great, great classic. There are also some really interesting books on the old AFL (“Going Long”, “Remember the AFL”, “If You Can’t Join ‘Em, Beat ‘Em”, “The Other League”). I also have a couple on Joe Willie Namath who was quite a character and interesting to read about.

I wonder if their instruction manual tells them all about proper feminine hygiene too.
