Seems weird to award those picks for someone that was already a head coach. You’d think if the focus was on development, picks would be awarded for first time head coach hires.

But if it was simply nepotism, why is there a Rooney Rule requiring interviews of minorities? Doesn’t that speak to the fact the league itself recognizes there is inherent racism, or at least favoritism? I remember when it was a controversial thing to play a black QB. When Buffalo started a rookie black QB in 1969 it was a very big deal. I have read OJ’s book about his rookie season in 1969, and he talks a lot about the inherent racism in the league. I think the remnants of that racism remain, or else there wouldn’t be a rule forcing teams to interview minorities.

I’ve been following the Bills since 1968. More downs than ups. The 90s teams were glorious, but I lived and died with wins and losses. And I had no idea the down years would be so long after that run. So, like a lot of things in life as I get older, I’m appreciating them more and understand how fleeting it all can be. Not taking any of it for granted.

Do they usually get fans there to see them off? There’s a front page article in the Buffalo News about the planning for the postgame airport arrival party. They will move tractor-trailers and have cops on the roofs of buildings because people used both last time. Win or lose it should be quite a crowd.

I had the same perception about the Bills’ 3rd and long defense. I think it gets exaggerated because it seems like a slam dunk, but when they give it up, it’s memorable in a negative way.

ESPN has to fill about 12 hours a day for 6 days and there’s only so many narratives you can create. So they milk whatever seems to be a live one. It’s all meaningless, unless you base your happiness on what they say.

The Titans went up 10-0 on the Ravens and it did not “prevent them from doing what they do”. Whereas the Bills stopping the Colts at the goal line and taking it down for a TD just before the half, and then getting a FG to open the second half meant a 17 point swing that was the turning point in the game.
