The most amazing thing ever in sports
OGTEleven replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come on, this does not impress anyone? How many inside the parkers are hit in a baseball season? (7 or 8?) How many pitches a game? (250-300?) How many games in a major league season (2430). 2430* 250= 607,500 pitches per season (8/607,500)*(8/607,500)= .00000000017342 or 1 in 5,766,503,906 odds that consecutive pitches will be hit for back to back inside-the-parkers. Thems long odds (personally, I would have preferred hitting the lottery, but this will have to do). Scroll to Aug 27 1977 -
The most amazing thing ever in sports
OGTEleven replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My entry is far from the most impressive from an accomplishment point of view, but from an odds perspective, I think it is hard to top. In the late 70s I went to a game at Yankee Stadium in which Bump Wills and Toby Harrah hit back to back home runs on consecutive pitches. Oh yeah, they were BOTH inside the park home runs. Think about those odds. -
Yahoo sued over Candyman child porn site

How about they give up on getting the money and settle for Yahoo publishing the names and home addresses of these thousands of users of the on the front page of the Sunday NY Times? -
MAJOR Announcement from TD
OGTEleven replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe they really meant to say "major award" and TD will be showing off his new leg lamp. -
If it was Martina McBride he is a dream thief.

what uniform should flutie wear in hall of fame?
OGTEleven replied to xpendersx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd say custodian's uniform. The name tag could say Dougie. I would have thought he'd have saved more of his money so he could retire, but if he needs the work, he needs the work. -
If you went on the theory that the pace would be super hot (plausible before the race and it turned out that way), you could have come up with the winner. He was a closer going into a race with a stretch longer than any he had run on. He had an excuse or two during his career and some good horses (Ferdinand, Alysheba come to mind) did not look like world beaters coming into the derby. I'm not saying it was an easy choice, but it was plausible. Staying with the closer theory you could have had Afleet Alex and Don't Get Mad without much of a problem (I had both of them on my list of contenders and put Don't Get Mad in my top 4). The hard part to me was Closing Argument. It isn't a bad strategy to settle on how you think the race will be run and pick your horses after that. If you lose, you lose anyway, but this way you wouldn't have tickets mixing closers and speed horses. Of course the result could have a mix of those types, but if you went with the closers yesterday the reward potential was huge. playing a super that wheeled the 3 closers and played all the horses in the other postitions would have cost $408. It returned 880k. 10,12/17/10,12, 17/10, 12, 17/all the rest 10,12,17/10,12,7/all/10, 12,17 10, 12, 17/all/10, 12, 17/10,12, 17 all/10, 12, 17/10, 12, 17/10, 12, 17 That would have meant tossing out closers Sun King and Noble Causeway.

After further review I have moved Noble Causeway up on my list. I still have High Limit on top (with hopes he'll get the distance). My second tier is now Noble Causeway, Don't Get Mad (I think I'm the only one on the planet that thinks he could run a big race) and Bellamy. My main knock on Galaxy is that Mr. Greeley usually produces sprinters. He does have a few out there that have been able to go further. Greeley's Galaxy's form looks like War Emblem's did coming in. I thought War Emblem was destined for last lace in the Derby.

As a general rule I shy away from the favorite because of the nature of the Derby. It is still early in the year and not all of the cards are on the table yet. Some horses have great preps coming in but can't follow through. This years favorite, Bellamy Roaad, had an unreal Wood Memorial. If he wins tomorrow I won't be surprised but I'm going against him in search of odds and on worries that his running style/breeding aren't a perfect match for 1-1/4. The horses I strongly considered after reviewing the race were: Noble Causeway 12-1 High Fly 8-1 Afleet Alex 9/2 Bandini 6-1 Bellamy Road 5/2 Don't Get Mad 30-1 High Limit 12-1 There were others that I couldn't totally throw out like Andromeda's Hero, Wilko and Sun King. You can't have them all though. From that batch of horses I compared running styles, how they are coming up to the race and breeding. I'm going with High Limit. I like how he is coming up to the race. He did not leave it all on the track against Bandini last time and is trainig well at Churchill. I like his breeding a lot, but I don't really love it at 1-1/4. I think he will go off at better than 12-1. For my second tier (exacta horses) I've got Bellamy Road and Don't Get Mad. Bellamy Road might not even be a value underneath but I think I need to use him. I would almost never even consider a horse coming out of the Derby Trial but Don't Get Mad really needed the race and ran big. He is a dead closer so he could have traffic problems but the race sets up as one in which there will be many horses easily passed in the lane. Even though it isn't common opinion, I think he's bred to run all day. Afleet Alex could run some/all of them down but has questionable breeding and connections High Fly ran a big race in the Fla derby and looks like he has quality but needs lot to break his way Noble Causeway is improving and dangerous Bandini is tough to criticize but has been rank at times and this is usually not the place for horses with those tendencies. All just my opinion of course.

Good News on Intelligent Design
OGTEleven replied to Benjamin Franklin's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Here is what I find disturbing: I believe in God. I also beilieve that evolution is a viable theory not at all at odds with a creator. I don't know enough about ID to say much about it, but I will say that if there is a God, he more than likely "designed" us. With that said, teaching ID as a science is an oxymoron. If God designed us, he could do it with or without science. Why do I think it is beig taught/pushed? I think it is because a large portion of the scientific population think that they are so smart that they can simply dismiss the possibility of God existing. To me, this is the most arrogant stance a person can take on any topic. Here is an example of where I see it manifested: "Darwin fishes" on cars --- The fish you see on cars is a symbol of Christ. The Darwin fish overtly states that since evolution is "true" Christ cannot be. It shoves evolution in the face of Christians and mocks them. If evolution was being taught properly, it would be clear that it is not fundamentally at odds with religion/Christ. The normal fish on cars does not in any way mock evolution. It stands to reason that those tecaching evolution (or at least a goodly portion of them) are perfectly happy if the student is left with the impression that God is a myth. If that weren't true, there would be no market for the darwin thingies. I think some Christians feel violated by the educational system and that ID is a backlash. From a scientific point of view it is probably something that is at best grasping at straws and at worst dangerous. I'm almost sure it would not be around if people did not feel their faith was under attack. Perhaps the evolutionists should re-examine their curriculum to see if it is focusing on the proper area (ie. the scientific theory itself) and not sending a message that believers are all stupid and should be mocked. My own faith is strong enough to bear the weight of some genius who is smart enough to figure ot that God is a myth yet still unable to fix a flat tire, so this crap doesn't bother me much. With that said, I can understand the reaction of some who feel their children are being manipulated. -
Get your own goat you sicko. Pete's goat is tired.

I understand what you're saying, but they are not just being lazy. The statisitics say, a very high percentage of these cases end up being the spouse/boyfriend. Their choices were basically to investigate him and other family members or take their pick from the other 249,999,999 people in the country. Where are their better odds?

That was a 28 yarder vs Pitt

Don't you think that the main reason he fell to 24th is that QB was not a need position for many teams from 2-23? The only one I can think of would be the fish and they needed an RB more.

I'm confident to a reasonable degree at RT and the guard spots. I like the Anderson pickup. I like Gandy as Price II. I still have to come down on the negative side. We are either completely missing a left tackle (we have none) or we have a below average one and we are missing a center. I am hopeful something will happen by camp.

I thought about Making Movies too. Overall it is probably thier best (altough I could make an argument for their debut too). I went with Love Over Gold because of the title track and Telegraph Road.

Dire Sraits - Love Over Gold (only 5 songs, and one of them is bad), I almost went for the 3 song Yes - Close to the Edge.

Quick Thoughts About The Michael Jackson Trial
OGTEleven replied to Bill from NYC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
First of all, it's a parasol, not an umbrella. And it was a hot day. You also failed to point this out, showing your bias against the King of Pop. Next, those pajamas were from Tiffany's. Not like you would know about Tiffany's. Also, his witness list included unimpeachable sources like non (child) rapist Kobe Bryant. -
Florio's punch has been (should be) pissed in...

All of this guys "league sources" seem to swear like sailors and have no class. -
Has anyone seen any of the ubdrafted kickers get picked up? I'd like to see us get one. In particular, did the kid from Boise get drafted or picked up?
-
I'd pay $25 to see you guys agree over on the PPP board. On the TH topic, you're making me yawn.

If things don't work out with the Bills, he can stay in town and be the Sabres goalie when they get started again. Can you say shutout?

I am one of the three remaining people on the planet that believes TD pretty much tells the truth in his interviews. He never says "we like this guy's skills" or whatever unless there is some truth there. The one thing that he has mentioned re: TH is that they will not trade him for less than he is worth. He has not stated, but it has been implied that the Bills are less than enamored with LJS. If this second part is true, and they don't place much value on Shelton, why would they want to trade for him, simply to get a deal done? To me, it seems like either A - the Shelton thing will never happen because the Bills do not happen, B - It won't happen unless the "additional" compensation is enough, or C - We will get close the the #44 pick and TD will capitulate. I would not bet on C happening.
