I was with until the second paragraph. Of course the situation matters. JP Losman sat for a year and started for a team coming off a 9-7 season. The Jags built a powerhouse defense (kinda like Buffalo) and Bortles wasn’t asked to carry the team. Leaf was popping crazy pills. again, he might not be good enough. But the Cards and Fins did everything in their power to make sure he won’t be. I’m a big fan of Louis Riddick and he is all about these teams not giving him a real shot. More young qbs are ruined than made. amazingly enough, Buffalo has done a fairly good job developing a quarterback for once.

Bills over/ under wins set at 8.5

Every once in a while, Dave and Busters is a damn good time. -
They invested in by giving a first time defensive head coach and firing his OC 4 games into rookie season. They then traded him to a team hat was trading off their best players. like I said, he could just suck. But imo, I don’t remember a worse situation a young top 10 pick qb has ever been in. I think the Bills have made some questions offensive moves around Allen but it is a way more functional situation than Rosen has been in.

Bills over/ under wins set at 8.5

8.5 is probably our highest in years and our schedule is much harder. We also didn’t really beat any good teams last year so there probably are some questions about us nationwide. but put money on it then and you can laugh at it when you win. Yeah but if you think it is low, it would be a great time to bet it because if they have a great free agency and draft, it could go up. -
John, this is just the optimist Bills fan in you. So Jackson, who has been a better passer in a much tougher college than Allen and a better passer in the nfl, can’t improve but Allen will? this is always my problem with the all the physical tools, high upside guys who never really had elite production. People just keep thinking they will automatically take the next step and ignore some real issues. Some fans try to dismiss the 60% thing thinking it’s just a couple of throws here or there. Jackson doesn’t have the arm of Allen but he has been better in college and better in the pros. There’s just a chance he might just be a better player. And as much as some posters try to dismiss his accomplishments, saying our guy isn’t as good as the league MVP isn’t a bad thing. but let’s load up on offense and see what Allen has. I 100% believe in Allen’s character and work ethic. But it’s time to stop making excuses for the highest drafted qb in franchise history while knocking a league MVP. It’s kinda silly. Yeah, I don’t think it is racist at all but I do wonder if a 23 year old white qb who won a MVP and Heisman would face the criticism that Jackson has faced. I honestly don’t remember a MVP, especially one This young, taking as much criticism as Jackson has.

They won a SB and he’s been their most productive playoff receiver since he signed there. More than Kelce and Hill. If your team wins the SB, you don’t regret anything. Put it this way. If We had Sammy and won the SB, would you be complaining? no one is disagreeing that he hasn’t leave up to his draft position. For some reason, the Bills play in a different league offensively than The rest of the nfl. 200 yards passing is a major accomplishment in the nfl. However most other teams realize you need as many threats as possible to scare defenses. It’s not a coincidence that Sammy has played on top 5 offenses since he left Buffalo. He demands attention and when he doesn’t get it, he is capable of making plays. So even though the numbers don’t suggest it, defenses fear a Sammy Watkins more than a Beasley (who I love). with our cap the way it is, I’d completely fine overpaying for receiving talent to see if Allen really is the guy. I’d rather have a problem of too many threats than too little.

We aren’t at 6.5!!!! It’s progress!!! ? on paper, it’s a much harder schedule. It’s one of the toughest ones in a while. We could improve as a team but might not get the wins to show for it. If we beat that over, we have a legit really good team. also, as someone who loves betting, don’t ever beat on your favorite teams unless you want to beat against them so if they lose, you have a money consolation prize. -
Fair points. My counter would be 1 - Jackson had a better passing season as a 2nd year guy than any of those players 2 - he was an amazing college player. Again, maybe he is just good. 2 - there are factors why some of those guys flamed out. RG3 got hurt. We know the Kaepernick story. Dog killer Vick actually became a better passer under Reid late in his career. Cunningham played with crappy skill players (look at those Eagles rosters) and then led one of the greatest teams to never win a SB late in his career. i guess the other counter is where is the track record of a prospect like Allen succeeding? A good but not great player in smaller conference who never hit 60% passing? I think Allen has a great work ethic and is a good leader. But that’s what scares me most. side note, his mom’s name is Lavonne Allen.

Our #1 need Is on a rebuilding Carolina Panthers team.

Why would Carolina trade a 2nd year wr who got 1,000 yards playing mostly with Kyle Allen and a broken down Newton? -
Fair points but you do realize Jackson played in a pro style system in college? again my point isn’t to crap on Allen. I just don’t understand why people out so quick to discredit Jackson. Maybe he is just a good qb. Dude has one of the best resumes of any 2nd year qb of all time. Good post and it sums up my feelings. hopefully, they both become better passers. But let’s not act like the Ravens have a super amazing receiving core either. Their top wr is 5’9” 170 lbs and missed a bunch of games. Their second wr was Willie Freakin’ Snead too,

When they came out in the draft, I had Allen and Jackson ranked together. Good physical tools, worries about them being consistent NFL passers. Im not trying to knock Allen here. I did see some improvement. My problem with this comparison is some fans always want to knock Jackson. They said he should switch positions. They started a thread about him struggling in a pro bowl drill. Then he won MVP in the pro bowl. jackson won the Heisman, while Allen wasn’t 1st or 2nd team in the MWC. Jackson helped the Ravens make the playoffs 2 years in a row. He was the MVP this year. Why can’t he improve but Allen can? Honestly, I hope both players become great qbs. It makes for a better nfl. But my biggest problem with the Allen pick is it is a projection type pick. We are expecting him to be a better player than he was in the MWC. At this point, I don’t think any rational fan can argue that Jackson hasn’t had the better career. Could Allen pass him one day? Sure but it’s just guessing at this point.

Greg Olsen visiting Bills, Redskins, Seahawks

Whoops! I meant Kroft!!! I’m not giving up on Knox yet. -
McShay - Bills pass on WR and take RB Swift in 1st.

Literally one of the few things that would make me punch a wall. It would beyond idiotic but this regime has outdated view on offense. Maybe we could run the wishbone. -

I would take him in a second but he looked pretty washed last year. Third Leg Greg would be a great mentor and I’ll gladly get rid of Smith and/ or Knox. -
I generally agree with this. Learning from Smith helped him. At the same time, Mahomes in his first start as a rookie passed for more yards than Allen has in his career. In the SB in what was considered a bad game by him, he passed for more yards than Allen has in any game against the #1 defense. Mahomes is just a much better qb than Allen. He’s special and would have been good anywhere. The prices nothing except how much McDermott struggles with evaluating offense. He literally benched a serviceable qb for a guy who has had one of the worst careers in nfl history. It was an unbelievably dumb decision.
-
It’s wild how some people try to discredit Mahomes. Andy Reid had a playoff team with Alex Smith (a guy who didn’t throw a td pass to a receiver for an entire season). Instead of trying to fill out the roster with a player that could help him, he traded up for Mahomes because that’s how good he thought he was. He is an Offside away from potentially winning 2 SBs in his first 2 years as a starter. He is a generational qb. Allen wasn’t even dominant in the MWC so it’s pretty silly to pretend like he would come close to doing what Mahomes is doing. He carries a garbage defense (they played better in the 2nd half but aren’t close to the Bills). Could Allen be a franchise guy? Of course. But it’s like comparing prime Brady to Ryan Tannehill at this point. Mahomes is off to the greatest start of any qb on nfl history. I never liked the hire of Daboll. Very uninspired. I was asking for Kingsbury last off-season. But I think it’s very fair to question this regimes ability to make offensive decisions.
