Rd 6 pick 185 (6): CB Christian Benford, Villanova
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was listening to Bill Polian this morning on the radio. He was kind of ripping all these mock drafters which is still a large step up from most posters here. He talked about how these people don't have half the information NFL teams have such as; medical, psychological, and think he called it security, i.e. how many times have you been arrested or maybe came close to it, friends you have out with, etc. So for them to praise or rip a pick is useless as they likely have little idea what went into the selection. -
Rd 6, Pick 180 (1): Punter Matt Araiza, San Diego State
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Someone has to teach him how to hold. I'm sure he's been working on holding since January, will be interesting to see how he does there. Personally I'd have preferred Stout, but he wouldn't have been a sexy of a pick as Araiza is. -
Personally I'd have preferred Stout, but OK with this. Do find it rather funny over all that there was talk prior to the draft that Araiza may be picked as high as 3rd round, for sure 4th. Punters did start going in round 4, but not Araiza, he of all people last to round 6!

Cause they were waiting for round 6 LOL!!

So are either Tampa or Baltimore's punters any good as likely their current punter will be cut. Or ends up being the rookie.

Agree Haack's stats only differ from league average by a couple of yards, but the eye test says different. So the only explanation is consistency. But do wonder even other punters including leagues best, other than seeing them on TV and likely not watching as intently as when viewing a Bills game, how consistent are they. Unless a punt is returned for a TD or blocked, it's not making the Primetime hightlights show. Yes much easier to look great punting in San Diego!
-
And yet all that, but his punts still only about 5 yards less than the top punters in the league and 2 to 3 yards less than the average punters. Not at all against drafting one and can improve there, but the extreme worries about punting are way overboard. Flawless holding is more important than a couple more yards net. IMO I'd prefer they draft Stroud from Penn St than Araiza. His stats are very close to the "God"

That was when I gave up and switched to ESPN

Rd 3, Pick 89 (25): LB Terrell Bernard, Baylor

I had ABC for quite awhile, but gave up when the Bills drafted in round 2 and all they were doing was interviewing Derek Houff about Dancing Then switched to ESPN -
Rd 2, Pick 63 (31): RB James Cook, Georgia
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
OK and he's still one of the top QB's in the league. And makes medium quality WR's look real good. -

It's not saving grace, it's reality and not just Allen but the same for top QB's in the league, Rodgers, Mahomes, Allen. And please tell us what should Beane have done instead. -

When you have Allen back at QB, he could make Kumarow and Stevenson look like they are ready to go to the pro bowl. So even if that were to happen, it's not the end of the world as you make it out to be. Top QB's make mid and even low level WR look good. -
NFL Draft 2022 Second & Third Round Discussion Thread
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to UKBillFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we used all our 5th, 2 6ths and their 7th could have moved up 10 or 11 spots to 46. While that's a significant jump up, not likely they'd ever have done that anyway, so moving up really wasn't much of a realistic option. Plus was there someone at that point they valued much higher? -
Looking at points chart, somewhere between a 4th and 5th would be about right, assuming Tampa is picking towards bottom in both rounds. Time for the Bills to pick, went to commercial!
-
I'm sure it was a spur of the moment thing and his emotions got the best of him. Likely he'll regret what he said and did solely for the reason of coaches rarely dump on other coaches. Thought I recalled them two getting along pretty well too? when you're a stranger! And sometimes.... Faces come out in the rain!
-
Agree with you on CB, but it's been pointed out the McD and Beane going all the way back to their Carolina days have never used, think it was higher than a 3rd round pick on a #2 CB. Only thing that changes it just a little this season is White being hurt. But if they never drafted a #2 CB above round 3 prior, gives me doubt they'll do it now.

Giants decline Jones 5th year option
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Been reading about a number of 5th year option choices this week. When is the deadline? I thought I recalled in past years was around 3rd week of May?? -
Why wouldn't trading down be a consideration? Supposedly there's only about 20 players with round 1 grades, so would make sense to trade down. Only reason not to is not getting a good return on trade value as other teams have the same concern. So maybe they take 75 cents on the dollar. Is that still better than not trading down but getting someone who's maybe only the 40th best player? Instead trade down take the 40th best player and get an extra pick or two. Or as one article stated if 2 QB's are gone before #25, then teams may want to trade up and would give good value in return as only one decent one left to pick from.

Because these days the "rule" has become don't draft a RB in round 1 Not sure I'd use those guys in this argument as they were kind of from a different era when it was OK to select a RB in round 1. Timeframe wise admittedly AP is borderline. Having said that I've kind of come around and am OK with selecting Hall at 25. If they could trade down a handful and get him then, even better! What's changed my mind is read enough articles about how Beane and McD have never drafted a boundry CB very high, so why start now. The only reason is because of the injury to White, but they probably have a much better idea where he is in his recovery. Add in Hyde and Poyer are so good at safety can get away with a weaker #2 CB. So I'll rule out CB in round 1 for these reasons. Likely they will still sign a vet FA too. WR or IOL would be other options, but not a huge need for either of them in 2022. IOL would also be kind of high in round 1, though is late round 1 The biggest arguments against drafting a RB in round 1 is they have short careers. With Josh Allen at QB, this team isn't going to become a Ground Chuck offense so Halls likely wouldn't see the wear and tear that a Henry or Taylor get. He also may get many receptions out of backfield. Would a RB catching a pass be any worse career wise than WR catching a pass? Also read an article yesterday that talked about how it doesn't make sense for say for a team like Jax or the Jets to draft a RB in round 1 as the team is still a few years away from competing and by then the RB could be over the hill, particularly if asked to do alot until QB was ready. But the Bills offense is ready to roll now so not as risky of a move. Likely a RB like Hall could do much more to improve the team in 2022 other than any other position with the possible exception of CB #2 (and punter) and that may or not be the case there too.

Do we make the pick at 25? Trade? (Poll)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall
Interesting article by Joe B in today's Athletic about trading up or down. Overall his thinking is because this is viewed as a weak draft in round 1, you might be able to trade up for less than full value. 12 to 15 was his sweet spot and he was pushing to do that to then pick Hamilton. That obviously assumes he's available there. Some folks will say he'll be long gone, but Joe's take on it is his value is all over the map. Conversely he thinks would be hard to trade down as teams aren't going to give up much to move up to 25. The one exception was if 2 QB's are already selected, Tenn picks 26th and rumored to be thinking QB could grab the last one. So a team may want to trade with the Bills to get ahead of Tenn. One of his thoughts was Detroit as they have 2 2nd rounders so could trade one to Bills plus think it was 3rd rounder.
